If we win 1 that should be enough for finals, but I don't think we're really in the race anyway.
We're too inconsistent. Realistically, it's between the Sydney teams and Perth.

We look a much better team with Weatherald and Carey opening, Head at 3, Neser in the attack.

Better enough to win it...? Not sure we'll be able to peel off the 18 straight finals wins required unfortunately
Best batsmen must play in the top 3

Reckon Siddle is a big inclusion too, more often than not he picks up a wicket or 2.

Agar is our Rashid Khan now. The one we throw the ball to when we need a wicket

Realistically we need Covid to cancel Afghanistan's series for us
Swapping Nesser for Worrell covers the loss of Khan's batting too.

You are right though that we have had to rejig bowling roles.

We need to win both remaining games & make the top 3 to be a shot.

hey shorty give up mate, your debating with someone with cricket knowledge. Never mind his cricket knowledge is contradicted by nuffies like Ponting and Warne and basically every other person who has even watch an over of cricket.

And to think Vader backed him up, feeling a bit silly Vademan?

pretty sure that bloke is the clown that was saying we’d sue the AFL if we didn’t get band 1 for Crouch. Or some other idiotic reason.

The hate towards Paine is starting to remind me of what Tex copped after the 2017 GF.

He had a shocker as a captain (and as a keeper) in the back half of the series, but he wasn't alone.

All series we suffered from poor selections, batsmen wasting starts, poor fielding, and bowlers bowling far too many balls not hitting the stumps.

Lyon especially should be copping more heat. Clearly been drinking his own bathwater with the whole GOAT/100 tests/400 wickets thing.

There’s not much a captain has to do when the batsmen are making runs and the bowlers are in good form. When things aren’t going your way, you can’t afford wrong calls from the captain. I barely watched a ball, but I can understand how a previously decent captain can bear the brunt, especially if there’s some calls they got very wrong.

Assuming the South Africa series goes ahead, what team would people like to see?

Imo, changes need to be made...

1. Pucovski
2. Warner
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith (c)
5. Head
6. Green
7. Carey
8. Pattinson
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazelwood

Would look to rotate quick bowlers to keep fresh with both Jye Richardson & Starc. If Lyon continues poor form, then give Swepson a go.

Selecting backup batsmen will be harder. Inglis should be picked as also a spare keeper. No average 30+ year olds please, as need to look to the future. Is Kurtis Patterson still injured?

Like that team but I'd give Head the captaincy.

I don't see any reason why we can't bring in Head as effectively a specialist captain like we did with Paine. It's not like there is a long queue of middle order batsman we'd pick instead. Giving him captain duties increases his value to the side and IMO would justify him averaging 30-40 for the series which otherwise would be mediocre.

Lyon I'd give one test and if he doesn't perform he's out for Swepson. Wouldn't even send Starc, he can go to NZ for the short form series

Is head a really good captain?
Why is it he’s been touted as a future one when he’s no cemented in the team?

Good team, I might have Richardson ahead of Pattinson but like you say it would be good to rotate them anyway.

How do you think they will pick it with the New Zealand Series on at the same time? Do they pick the test team and extras and then see who is left over for New Zealand or do they pick the best test 11 and then the t20 11 and then the backups?

Warner hanging by a thread only because a lack of openers

I know a whole lot of stats exist to disprove this but my gut feel is Warner is overrated at test level. I think he is lucky to often be grouped with Smith when people discuss the quality of our batting.

I think the end will come real quick for him due to injury. I am sure he has a few big scores left in him but I think he will walk away after the Ashes.

People know he's almost ineffective away from home but to average nearly 50 as a Test opener is a big deal.

Agree he's nearly done though.

You know it's a hot day, when even up here in the hills there's hardly anyone out because it's so hot.

Yeah there's no chance I'm going to the cricket.

Should be free bottles of water for all spectators today, it's crazy hot.
