Graeme Hick, Jack Russell, Devon Malcolm and Phil Tufnell have been recalled for the next test!!!!

How pathetically funny!! Where Phil Defreitas?? Why not bring back Ray Illingworth or Eddie Hemmings as well!!! HAHA

I'm can't beleive these selections.

Hick. The only record Hick has at test level is for being dropped and reinstated, well he just broke his own record.

Jack Russell. I always thought Jack was a pretty good cricketer, big ticker, has a dip that sort of thing, I was under the impression that he had retired from test cricket, obviously not. Jack is nearly 38 years old and has not played test cricket since April 97.

Devon Malcom. A 38 year old fast bowler, has not played since the last time we toured England. If he gets a couple of wickets he will pay a hefty price for them.

Phil Tuffnell. 35 years old, can't bat, can't field and 120 test wickets @36, has not played since 99.

England might as well concede defeat, Australia by lunch on the 4th day

I'd heard Deveon Malcolm, but the other 3?!?!? Christ, what are they thinking, that the Aussies will be pissing themselves so much with laughter, they'll all get broken ribs?

I think your radio station is having a little joke..Poms annunce their side on Sunday morning, pommy time.

I did hear the Aussie team has a sweep going to see which test Hick is recalled though!

I doubt it, London Dave. JJJ plays good music but the last time anyone there had a sense of humor was when that fat bloke was doing the breakfast show.

Well, that's not quite fair, but certainly no one who does news, current affairs etc has a funny bone. No way it would have been a joke, maybe a mistake but I heard it on other stations as well.

Just checked the official Baggy Green cricket site, no mention is made of any of these players being recalled, nor does a squad appear to have been named.

All I could glean from it was that Thorpe, Hussain, Vaughan and Giles will not play in the Third Test because of injury.

I checked cricinfo and they had a story saying that Jack Russell had said he would be prepared to come out of retirement if England needed him.

Speaking of selections that look like they might be a joke...This is the Australian side to play Hampshire this weekend:

Matthew Hayden, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Steve Waugh (capt), Wade Seccombe, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie, Damien Fleming, Colin Miller, Brett Lee, Ashley Noffke.

Four batsman plus Seccombe. The bowlers are going to have to bowl two over spells so they can all get a turn.

Could be a bit embarrasing if we lose a few early wickets.

It's definitely a joke.......for now anyway. The side won't be announced till Sunday at 11am like LD says so its obviously a bit of a wind up.
On a serious note though I hope Hick never gets recalled & I'm pretty sure Russell won't but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Tufnell in the squad for the 3rd Test, it's at Trent Bridge which is a pretty good batting track & is the ground least likely to give help to the seam & swing brigade.Tufnell's Test average is pretty poor BUT he has won quite a few Tests for England which is more than most bowlers especially spinners can say.Apparently this season he's been playing pretty well so I wouldn't be that upset to see him picked & it would be a bit of fun for all involved(especially Aussies in the crowd).
On the issue of Malcolm I'm totally 100% sure that he'll never play again but this season he's the top wicket taker in the CC with over 50 wickets & he's still bowling pretty quickly. You know we can pick the usual supsects for this Test & we'll probably lose with a minute degree of dignity or we can pick big Dev,rev him up by telling him that the whole Aussie team laughed at his inclusion tell him to bowl as quickly as he can & he might just knock the top off of the Aussie batting order. He probably won't, he'll probably get carted to all corners of the ground but I'd give him a go.

Why are the Poms so worried about picking a team for the future. Pick your best side available for effin sake.

Phil Tuffnell is the only spinner in England capable of bowling a side out. So pick him. If Phil Defraitis (sp?) is your third best paceman then pick him.

If Australia was worried about the future they wouldn't pick the Waugh brothers. All that matters is winning the next game. The future will look after itself.

Australia was all out for 97 off 30.4 overs against Hampshire on the 1st day of a 3 day game.

In another county game play at the moment Northamptonshire are 4/534 with Michael Hussey 274 not out.

Top four batters scored 16 between them. Obviously an important game this one. Noffke top score with 28.

I'm a bit anoyed because the Aussies complain that the counties don't play their strongest sides against the visiting international teams and then we go and select this team. Apparently ticket sales were very good for the game and the punters deserved better.
