England tour of South Africa (4 Tests, 3 ODIs, 3 T20s)

To think that Wood only played because of injuries to Anderson and Archer.
He is a massively improved player and a big boost for our depth.

Pathetic collapse from South Africa.

They lost 7/88 just as they were showing some backbone.

This lineup is a sorry state of affairs atm:

England got them at a great time. Brings them right back into the test championship, a 3-1 away win is rolled gold at a location like SAF.

No doubt Ngidi and the like will be fit for when we tour there in a year.

But their batting lineup is Sri Lanka/West Indies level of stuff at the moment.

As for England:

Feels like they have come on leaps and bounds in 4 weeks.

- Pope looks like a future star for them
- Root/Stokes/Pope looks like a world class middle order
- Wood looks capable of potentially shouldering some of the load of the upcoming Broad/Anderson retirements
- Sibley looks a long term opener
- Bess/Crawley both have potential as good young players
- Stokes is developing into a world class batsman and a bloody good bowler. Not just a bit part of each and a good all-rounder.

My negatives:

- Archers injury; still unproven overseas
- Butler/Keeper situation in general still unresolved
- Denley isn't a test #3 imo.
- Curran lacked penetration on SAF pitches which doesn't bode well for the Ashes here, our batting lineup is far more formidable than that SAF one as well.
- Burns injury

Plenty to work with for them and if Pope/Sibley continue to develop in the next 18 months, they might surprise over here...

Plenty going on between Buttler, Broad and Faf today. For 2 countries who almost constantly deride Australia for their bad behaviour, geez they get into some altercations.

Exactly. Cricket history is littered with poor behaviour in Tests not involving Australia, and yet the Aussies are the only ones singled out.

to be fair in the last 4-5 years they have lost Smith, Amla, De Villiers, Kallis, Steyn, Philander, Morkel -thats 7 players that literally would be in their All Time squad, if not the playing 11 n most cases.
Only Amla and Philander played in that Hobart Test he's talking about though.

Deadset Amateur hour in the ODI.

Rashid gets an on field umpire giving the batsman van Dussen out, first ball, with no reviews left......3rd umpire Aleem Dar, for some reason, has reviewed it......and it’s not out.

So, van Dussen has walked off, got to the rope, stops, and now he’s in again.

.....and 2 balls later Moeen Ali bowls him anyway.

Apparently because ultra edge was unavailable for the previous review, despite clear gap between bat and ball...

I only watched the highlights but it got boring by the end seeing the bowler bowl the ball on the same length for the batsman to play the same shot into the crowd again and again.
