England "very likely" to be sole host of Euro 2020 this summer

There wont be full stadiums for a long time. 25% will be the rule for Euros this summer and no travelling fans pretty much unless they want ro quarantine first.

Scrap it.

The government plan is for all restrictions to be lifted by June 21 at the earliest. If that happens there could be capacity crowds before the knockouts.

Lol and how have the UK covid plans gone so far?

No restrictions could see a massive outbreak with fans coming from all over the place.

Scrap it.

The vaccination program is going extremely well.

If vaccinations dont have any impact on the spread of the virus, whats going to change in the next few months to allow crowds in to watch your deferred 20/21 season?

Vaccinations neutralise the virus, they dont protect those who dont have the vaccine.

Thats why the likes of Qantas arent resuming international flights until October. Apparently you know better than an international airline though. Maybe you should send an email to let them know the pandemic is over and that international flights can resume immediately.

As for crowds, they will be allowed back at 25% capacity initially. Won't make much of a difference to this season for PL clubs which is pretty much a write off but would make a huge difference to clubs in the lower leagues that need the matchday revenue desperately. Maybe a different schedule for the lower leagues might be a better solution.

Euros definitely should be scrapped, this pandemic is far from over.

Everyone attending will be vaccinated I would imagine. The target is for every adult in the UK to be vaccinated (or offered a vaccine) by then.

Its too early to tell the effects of vaccination on transmission but the signs are promising.

What on earth are you on about?

Vaccines don't guarantee protection against infection, especially with the UK government unable to administer the second dose within the ideal time frame of 30 days to meet demand (second doses are being administered 90 days after the first). Swine flu ended up infecting 1/3 of the worldwide population despite vaccines being available within 1 year of the pandemic being declared. It is for this reason why international travel is curtailed until later this year and why international airlines have cancelled most flights until later this year. The last thing that the UK needs is an influx of international visitors for an unnecessary football tournament during a pandemic.

The Euros are not needed in the UK and should be scrapped.

I agree, bizarre that anyone would want the Euros in England during a pandemic.
I dont particularly care where the Euros are played. And it's almost certain that they wont be played exclusively in the UK.

But it is in a much better place than the rest of Europe to play games with crowds in the summer.

Kazakhstan Coronavirus: 216,467 Cases and 2,540 Deaths - Worldometer (worldometers.info)

If you're talking about best places in Europe you can't beat that. 19m people and only 214000 covid cases.

Compares quite favorably to the UK with 4m plus cases from a population of 66m. If that's your concern Kazakhstan is the place to host the Euros.

Or maybe use common sense and scrap the tournament.

National bodies rely on money from internationals and major tournaments just like clubs rely on money from their leagues and European competition etc.

There would be a pretty big effect on grass root and junior football if we just scrapped international tournaments indefinitely, especially when clubs across the world have showed the way to successfully run competitions during the pandemic.
