England vs West Indies (3 Tests)

Not sure how lol

He’s fast and so inaccurate

In the same way that Australia has a habit of labelling anyone who spins from the wrist as ‘the next warne’ as soon as they land a delivery on a cut strip in a domestic game, England has a habit of uniformly annointing players as ‘the answer’ or ‘completely remodelled’ based on one performance.

Wood is a case in point. England get bollocked in the first two tests against the West Indies, wood comes into play a dead rubber against a team missing its captain and best player, with nothing to play for, and takes 5 wickets. ‘Wood is the enforcer we need.’

wood bowls ok in his next test against SA, earns another go and takes 9 wickets - against a side who’s number 7 is their best batsman - and now because his sample size is TWO, not one, his prior 12 tests without a single five wicket haul are the outlier and ‘we have our fast and fiery saviour.’

every spinner who doesn’t get belted on debut or turns one sharply gets the same treatment. Moeen Ali succeeds once or twice as the makeshift opener so suddenly he’s the answer there.

they have ruined so many careers buying into that attitude. Robin smith struggles with Shane Warne - suddenly that turns into Smith can’t play spin and we have to leave him out altogether.
Hick and Ramprakash have talent so they will succeed. Have to pick them ahead of more deserving players.

I don’t disagree. Though he averages 21 or something ridiculous in England.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong and if so I apologise but if you guys are talking about Mark Wood still he averages 45 with the ball in England. There hasn't been an English specialist bowler to bowl as many balls in England and average more.

you’re right, I had it in my head For some reason that he was the other way around but I personally even quoted that above stat at some stage during the series 😂😂😂

Wow that was pathetic from the windies. The weather would have knocked plenty of overs off the day and made it tough for the poms to get into rythym. But no they just handed them the match and series. They don't deserve to play tests, let NZ and Ireland and Afghanistan play their tests instead.
