1st Test is just underway after the ODI series finished 2-1 to England.

Bangladesh's first test in 14 months and they've gone in with 3 debutants Sabbir Rahman (Batsman whose played a fair few ODI's), Kamrul Islam Rabbi (Pace bowler with a fc avg of 40) and Mehedi Hasan (Spin-bowling all-rounder).

England have Ben Duckett debuting and opening the batting. Have also gone in with 3 spinners (Ali, Rashid and Batty playing his first test in 11 years).

England have won the toss and elected to bat. Anyone give Bangladesh a good chance in home conditions?

Nice to see Duckett make his test debut. Buttler should have played as middle order bat..
Ballance will never be good enough.

Excellent day by the Bangladeshi's. Woakes still there is dangerous for them though, if they can roll them for under 300 would be a very good result. About as good as it gets on debut for Mehedi.

I just read that all 11 members of this England team have scored a first class century: must be some sort of record. Comment on cricinfo, "England bat deeper than Barry White's voice." :)

Can't think of too many teams who had more than 11 members with centuries :)

Saw the highlights, Mehedi super impressive.

Terrific contest though, Bangladesh ahead in the game slightly in terms but will be a lot playing on their minds with the weight of history of losing from winnable positions. Would love to see them throw that monkey off.

Going to be an interesting day. England 28/3 with a lead of 70 odd. <200 and Bangaldesh should get their in the last innings. I don't have much faith in them performing in high pressure situations.

Bairstow out for 47, 3 runs shy of these calendar year records:
breaking - most 50+ scores by an English #6 or lower (8 Flintoff, Bairstow)
breaking - most 50+ scores at #6 or lower (8: Sobers, Chanderpaul, Flintoff, Bairstow)
equalling - most 50+ scores by a wicketkeeper (9 de Villiers; 8 Flower, Bairstow)

Needs 5 runs in the next Test for most runs by an English #5 or lower (1095 Botham, 1091 Bairstow)

Heard TMS say this morning that there has been 19 reviews in this match. The umps must be having a mare.

Ben Stokes turning it on. Fine batting from him.

Most reviews in a Test inns:
10 Eng v Ban Chittagong 2016 (7 successful (3 by Moeen Ali), 3 unsuccessful)
8 SL v Pak Dubai 2014

In the space of 6 balls, umpire Dharmasena gave Moeen Ali out lbw 3 times to Shakib Al Hasan. Ali appealed each time and each time the 3rd umpire reversed the decision. I think it is clear that spinners have probably been given many lbw decisions in their favour that were not out. Hopefully DRS can start to correct these errors.

England 1st Innings
11.6 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Ballance, OUT, huge appeal, does this hit the pad first? Mushfiqur is reviewing! It was a more round-arm delivery, really skidding on, and if that is pad first, then Ballance is in a lot of bother ... yes, it is smashing the stumps, and off he goes! (BNG 1/1)

23.4 Taijul Islam to Ali, no run, Another lbw appeal this time Moeen pressing forwards with bat next to pad... Gaffaney thinks it's outside the line but Mushfiq goes for the review. DRS time once again, no bat involved as the ball turns into the front pad... What does Hawk-Eye say? Umpire's call on impact and hitting leg stump - but that's no good for Bangladesh. Should have reviewed the one earlier off Mehedi (BNG 1/2)

26.5 Shakib Al Hasan to Ali, no run, another big appeal, this time the finger goes up! Moeen has been dicing with danger, hit on the pads again and Kumar Dharmasena likes it - but England review. Shakib was bowling from over the wicket, the ball again spinning in to the southpaw, as with the review off Taijul... Moeen this time playing the sweep and struck on the front pad. Don't think there was bat/glove on this... Or is that a murmur on Ultra Edge? Yes, it would appear so: S Ravi is convinced, anyway. A scrape of bat tape on it and the decision is overturned! (ENG 1/1)

28.2 Shakib Al Hasan to Ali, no run, that's much better! Tossed up, pins Moeen on the front pad, and up goes the finger! Moeen has reviewed, again, but this looks adjacent ... the DRS parameters have been tweaked in favour of bowlers, so if this is cliipping, it is out ... the tension is unbearable ...but it is missing! Spinning too much ... golly (ENG 2/2)

28.4 Shakib Al Hasan to Ali, no run, another sweep, another appeal, another review! Well this is extraordinary. Umpire Dharmasena's finger is incredibly itchy at the moment - he has raised it three times in six balls! - but this one looked as though it was outside the line. There's no bat involved ... and indeed, it is outside the line! (ENG 3/3)

47.4 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Ali, no run, sliding on, this beats the bat on the inside, Mushfiq belts out another appeal... and we're off to DRS City again, as Bangladesh review! Definitely pad first but did it pitch outside leg? Yes, it did! A fruitless gamble from Mushfiqur and Bangladesh have now lost both their reviews (BNG 1/3)

83.5 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Rashid, no run, spinning in off a length, Rashid pads up... and although Chris Gaffaney isn't interested, Mushfiqur calls for another review, the seventh of the day. Looked like this was heading down the leg side, though, and Hawk-Eye confirms as much. So Bangladesh lose another review (after they were topped up at 80 overs) (BNG 1/4)
---DAY TWO
93.2 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Rashid, no run, that is just a terrible leave! Rashid elects to leave a straighter, faster one, and that looks utterly plumb! What was he thinking there? He is reviewing, but golly, that is sliding past leg stump... well, I never. What judgement etc... (ENG 4/4)

102.1 Taijul Islam to Broad, no run, huge appeal as Broad is bashed on the pads, sharp spin but was Broad outside the line? He reviews.... Dharmasena has had another shocker, I'm afraid. That was missing leg stump! (ENG 5/5)

105.5 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Broad, OUT, another huge appeal, and Bangladesh have reviewed immediately. The tenth review of the innings (a record), and did this graze Broad's edge through to the keeper? There is a tiny spike on Snicko, and the decision is overturned! (BNG 2/5)

Bangladesh 1st Innings
42.6 Ali to Tamim Iqbal, no run, turn and bounce, taken by Root diving to his right at slip, Dharmasena gives it! Tamim, however, reviews straight away - because why not? - and the initial replay suggests it might have come off his upper arm. It was an excellent low catch as the ball diverted past Bairstow, but went quite slowly, as if off something softer (and it turns out fleshier) than the bat. Yep, S Ravi concludes there was no bat or glove involved, checks the lbw just to be sure and then overturns yet another on-field decision! Who'd be an umpire, eh? (BNG 1/1)

64.3 Woakes to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, Mushfiq plays across the line and is rapped on the pad... Woakes belts out an appeal, Dharmasena thinks long and hard, and shakes his head! Do I need to tell you what England decide to do? They review, the 12th in the match, I think. It's close but no cigar for Woakes, umpire's call on hitting the top of leg stump... So if Dharmasena had been inclined to give that one, it would have stood! But he didn't, so it also stands. Understand? (ENG 0/1)
--DAY THREE
78.2 Ali to Shafiul Islam, no run, more big turn but that was a tough one for any umpire to give, especially the hapless Dharmasena. Strikes the pad but there's a big stride, and lots of angle to consider. England are reviewing though. Hits in line but clipping leg, on we go (ENG 0/2)

81.1 Stokes to Mehedi Hasan Miraz, OUT, reverse swing again from Stokes, and up goes the finger! Mehedi reviews, but he had shuffled a long way across his stumps to counter Stokes' movement, and sure enough, that was hitting leg (BNG 1/2)

84.1 Rashid to Sabbir Rahman, no run, huge appeal, and another review! This one looks tight, turns a fraction from leg to off, but the line seemed good, was it pad first? Looks like it might be, but actually, the third umpire disagrees. On we go (ENG 0/3)

England 2nd Innings
0.5 Mehedi Hasan Miraz to Duckett, no run, beaten, into the keeper's gloves, another beseeching appeal from around the bat... and whaddyaknow it's going to be reviewed. Not sure if it was for caught behind or an lbw initially but the ball clearly slipped by the inside edge to hit the front pad, this could be close... but Hawk-Eye has it bouncing over! Duckett survives (and Dharmasena breathes a touch easier) (BNG 0/1)

9.2 Shakib Al Hasan to Root, OUT, full and straightening, Root sweeps and is struck on the pad... up goes the finger! After a brief chat with his partner, Root reviews but this looks like a bit of a punt. No bat involved, pitching on middle and going straight on, Hawk-Eye has it giving middle stump a punch in the kidneys! That's out, out, out! Huge wicket for Bangladesh, England two down - their big beats slayed - and the lead 72 (ENG 0/1)

68.4 Shakib Al Hasan to Rashid, OUT, gentle lbw appeal here, Rashid defending with bat next to pad... Mushfiq asks his bowler if it was pad first and then, with a grin on his face, asks for the review. It'll be close if it was pad then bat... Lots of rocking and rolling on the replay, looks like it did kiss the front leg before thudding into the bat, so we go to Hawk-Eye, impact in line and hitting middle stump! Another decision is overturned, Shakib has a five-for and England are eight down (BNG 1/2)

75.4 Shakib Al Hasan to Broad, no run, taken at short leg, was there bat involved? We have another review coming up, ladies and gents! Chris Gaffaney wasn't for giving it but what will S Ravi decide? Looks like it passed the inside edge and then flicked the pad before looping off the thigh to the fielder. Yep, no bat, so we'll carry on (BNG 1/3)
--DAY FOUR
80.2 Taijul Islam to Batty, OUT, very full, pins Batty on the shin, and up goes the finger! England are reviewing, it definitely hit pad first but did it straighten enough? Certainly did! So, good job from Taijul. Dharmasena confirms the decision, but everyone has already the field! (ENG 0/2)

Bangladesh 2nd Innings

9.4 Ali to Tamim Iqbal, no run, now then, what's happened here? Another big ripper, squeezes through to slip, who parries the chance but somehow scoops it up again as he tumbles to earth. But was there any bat in the first instance? The umpires are having a look as England review. In fact the chance was taken by second slip after coming off first slip's boot. But there was no bat involved! On we go (ENG 0/1)

Pretty amazing performance over night by Stokes to firstly save their bacon and then to put them into a very strong position.

Excellent test match cricket.
