Blind sided?
If you dont change the culture around the coach you will keep getting the same results.
I've backed Mick from the start, but like quite a few, I'm starting to find myself leaning towards a new coach. I do think he was necessary for a cleanout. He has the pulling power and nous to attract some of the players that have come in, and is no-nonsense enough to make inroads on fixing the culture, BUT, he is building a list that suits HIS style. With Buckley we have seen a list that suits Mick, doesn't necessarily suit the next coach. I think we have a good foundation there with Cripps, Docherty, Menzel, Yarran, Buckley, Whiley, Jaksch and a few others, so is now the time to move on from the work that Mick has done (regardless of wins and losses), and get someone fresh in to build on what's there?Find a coach
It is clear that we need a new coach, one who can structure the list rebuild to suit the coaches game plan. To this end the Board must now openly canvas applications for the job for 2016 to get the widest number of applicants for the job. A coaching selection committee should include McKay, SOS, MLG and an external football advisor, someone with current experience in coaching (not necessarily as coach) and the running of a successful football club.
The new coach should have a major, but not decisive, in-put into the assistant coaching roles.
The new coach would be offered a one year probationary contract. We only want a coach that wants to coach at Carlton AND has the self-confidence to believe that if given the chance the coach will prove themselves.
List rebuild
After 3 years of MM I think our list is in a terrible state. The only untouchables are Cripps, Menzel, Docherty, Yarran and Bell. Perhaps even the last 4 could be traded were the offer good enough.
Of the rest of the list only Kreuzer, Buckley, V-Rainbow, Jaksch, Giles, Smith, Foster and rookies Sheehan, Gowers, Walsh, Byrne and Russell have any prospect and talent to be contributors when we will be competitive for a flag.
In other words the new coach should have a very free hand to trade for players, trade for draft picks and delist, to create a list of players who will best suit the intended game plan with the aim to have a flag competitive side by 2020.
Sorry, just repeated pretty much the same thing.QUOTE]
Windy, this is the one point I have trouble with. I'm hoping that we can find someone with this self belief, but I would be gobsmacked if any potential coaches and their managers would accept that kind of deal. I don't have a problem with , say, a two year initial deal with options to extend. This would seem more palatable to any interested candidates.
Just my opinion

Under Mick we've seen a massive player turnover in a couple of years. Combine that with having to play nearly every player due to fiddly little injuries, it's become very hard for us to send out a team that can A) Be anything close to full strength and B) allow players to develop synergy together as a group on the field. I don't see what a coaching change would solve right now. These niggly injuries are still happening, guys are struggling to be able to string bunches of games together as a group as it is.
Injuries are part and parcel of the game. You can't put all of your eggs in one basket and hope that your best 22 remain injury-free for the year. Mick does not have a plan B, and I'm still trying to figure out what plan A is.
I'm not naive enough to think that we'll keep our best 22 out there all year. We're 5 rounds in and have already used 33 players. 7 or 8 of those guys have played their first games OR their first games for Carlton as well. Continuity of a decent percentage of your team goes a long way towards team success.Injuries are part and parcel of the game. Mick has not had a consistent narrative since day 1. He undermined Ratten, said he could take the list to the next level (premiership success). That was either delusional or pissing in the board's pocket and telling them it was raining. Probably both. Then he topped up with Daisy not really the player we needed in the cold light of day (although it was quite obvious at the time, too). Then last trade period we topped up with the fish John West rejected, it wasn't a rebuild and we didn't embrace the draft to the extent we could have (I exclude Jaksch, Whiley, Boekhorst hopefully they thrive for many years). I am talking of Tutt, Jones etc. Pre season Mick can't see us losing a game - okay, out of context and he needs to be optimistic. But seriously! Then, after round 2, we suddenly need to rebuild. WTF! Perhaps by year's end Mick will again decide we're contenders!
I have two main questions, the first with a couple of added questions - that I've asked previously - and here is as good a place to ask again as any.
At the start of the year the club sent out e-mails, etc. in regards to putting together a tight knit 'members for members' group that was apparently going to have direct input with the club. I'm sure all that are members here received it and had an opportunity to put in an application for it. I received a 'thanks but no thanks' reply.
Did anyone here or anyone that you know put in a successful application? If so, what has been done in regards to that group to this date? If nothing has been done is it a bit of fluff.
If the answer to the above is no or unanswered, has anyone heard anything come of it in any way, shape or form yet?
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/membership/carlton-football-club-member-councilThey announced the committee and gave a bio on who each person was, from memory, but I can't remember hearing anything about it since.
Even the Saints pushed the Bombers hard the whole game.
Brisbane could easily beat up on us if we don't show up.

I'm really keen to see what we do come year end. We could really go hard at the trade table and load up on 1st round draft selections if we want to go that way. I don't actually think our list is that bad, we're just way way out of form. Watch this space.

For all McCartneys match day faults, he essentially built the list they have now, and given the gambles on getting rid of senior players, seems recruiting has been a master-stroke.
Nah just a regular draft this year from what I can gather. Top 25 will be pretty good.
