They are operating on the same plane as Disney.

Why on earth would you do that? I’m not here to talk about Disney. I asked why the AFL, the Australian organisation run predominantly by former Australian footballers, would be removing contact from the game as part of a “woke agenda”. If you’re going to deflect by bringing up other organizations you consider “woke”, I’ll just go ahead and assume that’s because you can’t actually explain it.

Unless you are a lawyer yourself, then no you probably can't guarantee anything.

You might have explained why the AFL is woke. I haven’t seen that. I don’t really care. I assume anyone that holds welcome to country ceremonies and Pride rounds would automatically get that label.

What you haven’t explained is how changing rules to minimize head contact fits into a “woke agenda”. As opposed to their money making agenda, which they absolutely have.

Arguing that the system should be good enough to guarantee the health and well being of every past player is like arguing that the road toll should be zero.

It doesn’t matter how good the system is, the sad reality is that some people will always fall through the cracks.

Apart from anything else, success in this sort of thing tends to hinge on the person wanting and accepting the help that’s out there. And even then there’s no guarantees. Some demons simply refuse to be slain.

In addition suicidality is always dynamic, and no matter how much support you offer or have in place there is always a possibility that when the suicidality intent spikes and the person has the desire to act on the impulse in the moment rather than use the support, then a serious outcome occurs.

Women and girls do non-lethal self harm at higher rates than men do. Yet society perceives (probably inaccurately) females at better at talking about their problems. It's not like females are less in emotional turmoil than men are.

If AFL can find 600 million for ****ing Gold Coast they can find some for well the actual players

We as fans need to demand better. This is just not on. Its a black stain on the game right now. It cannot contimue for even 1 day more. The top brass need to have some class and announce some funding for supporting current and ex players NOW.

Dancing around the subject and losing 1 more life cant happen.

What is it you want fixed?
CTE is causing issues I agree.
Players need help agree.
But the mental health system for not just players but literally everyone is not at breaking point it's totally broken. They're may as well not be one or take a lucky dip. (And spend whatever useless dollars you chuck at it elsewhere)
And this is from experience and from experience with others navigating the system.
The AFL CEOs and execs and development managers know nothing about it. They can't help
This is an area government should be doing something. But they're not interested. They're either fill in one of 10 things they're doing instead depending on your political pov.
Also generally speaking because I am a man and will speak for men only men especially have very specific needs when it comes to this space which is not cared for.
So our society needs to admit we don't care go for your life or have it up there with women's health (which doesn't work either btw)
But that won't happen due to the reality of our situation

You can't sue someone if you get sick from a material that you came into contact with on the job, if no one in the world knew it caused people to get sick. It's called foreseeability.

The game has the money to help, just too self-indulgent to do it.

The AFL needs to get its priorities right. Who in their right mind would want their son to play AFL after this week? You cant grow the game when your game has nothing to grow with.

If im a parent as of this week im pulling my son out of AFL immediately. The game isnt up to it right now. Im not committing my child to this life as wouldnt most parents im afraid

And if you were in a position of authority, would you Risk your job by redirecting funds away from winning, to the welfare of ex-players?


Sadly, rightly or wrongly - these decisions always require a sacrifice. Sometimes it's only a perceived sacrifice, but ultimately someone needs to actually make a decision that could negatively impact them personally.

And when most people are put in this position they choose self-interest.

A major issue here too is gender.

No one wants to touch this, though.

I don't burden my true friends with any really bad thoughts; I think they can see when I'm feeling a bit blue and beyond that. it's never a deep 'let's talk about this' but there are small signs of help that are more meaningful than brash 'bro **** the black dog bro!'

The issue is women.

Men have nfi what they're supposed to be.

Have to be confident and able to come up to you and broker conversation, but also men who disrupt women are creepy.

Need to open up more and express yourself to your partner, but crying is pathetic and goes against the deep need for a stoic, governing man.

A guy with money and drive shows a lot, but if it's an ick if you as a woman – who is allowed to work – makes more than him. and then if he makes too much more, it's a sign of the glass ceiling.

Most women are reasonable and normal but the rhetoric is out of ****ing control.

I've had about two girlfriends now either laugh at me, mock me, or want nothing to do with me and tell me 'it doesn't matter, move on!' when I've cried.
