It's got Father Roddy's Vatican city seal of approval

Family friendly blockbuster film has a happy ending? The horror.

In fairness ESB/ROTS/RO didn't have happy endings, and Solo's was ambiguously 'happy', so it's not undoable.

did rogue one have a happy ending?
Rogue One was a stand-alone film, not part of the main saga, which has always been aimed at kids. I am sure there will be more adult fare along the way. The real exception is ROTS (Empire and Last Jedi are middle films in a trilogy and still balanced unhappy endings with a thrilling escape for the heroes). Of course, ROTS had a pre-determined destination and audience. This is the end of a trilogy as well as the end of the saga. Expecting a downbeat ending would be like expecting Endgame to finish with Thanos on top and all the heroes dead. Ain’t gonna happen.

Just because ESB didn't kill the heroes doesn't make it 'balanced'. Han is in carbonite, Luke has lost his hand, and they're on the run. Hardly balanced.

TLJ is somewhat happier because no one actually got hurt, except for Luke.

Oh so the main character behind the whole saga dies but we’ll just put that aside?

Yes because he was a bit part character in this trilogy.

He's not really the 'main character' though is he? Lucas himself said the saga was about Anakin. No idea who the new retconned main character is meant to be, seems like it's just this vague concept of the 'Skywalker' name.

Can you fannies stop killing it before it comes out?

Lucas says a lot of things, though...
