I felt Arteta could have been bold here and put Trossard in mid instead of Xhaka for some energy and played White at CB with Kiwior out at RB. Was saying before the game if he stuck with his normal system & Holding at CB a defeat seemed inevitable.

Squad wise with an ageing midfield you need Rice + one other new mid, a better quality finisher than Jesus and a new #1 CB that bumps Gabriel to the bench. Probably looking at 200m there if that was to be all addressed in one window.

Arteta is very inflexible at times, it’s something that comes with the territory being so young and a first time manager etc. He does need to reflect on this however as it’s been a recurring issue the last few matches in approaching crucial fixtures like this.

He understandably has a philosophy on how Arsenal should play, likely entrenched into him from playing under Wenger all those years. Similar to Arsene however, there comes a certain kind of stubbornness/ego/righteousness that at times comes in the way from altering that.

This morning was screaming out for a more pragmatic approach to the match and the implications on the league title. That nous of knowing what to do at the right time is something Arsenal are lacking right now, which again comes with the territory of the youngest side in the league. Some harsh lessons being learned on the job here.

Scholes was an overrated Thug. You got to be joking. Bergkamp and Gerrard are the only two you mentioned I could say probably are better.

The mythology around Scholes means that people that are too young to remember him end up putting him in these conversations.

Top player obviously but not as good as De Bruyne, Lampard, Gerrard etc.

I've seen players sent off for similar but a yellow was about right. Partey should have got a second yellow for his rugby tackle on Haaland.

It was always going to be tough for Arsenal to beat City at the Etihad but it comes after 3 draws whereas City have won their last 7.
Don't tell Brades. Clear dive apparently. I agree a yellow was fine. It would have been a soft red. Yellow was the correct call.

Yeah, Partey was skating on thin ice. I am surprised he wasn't sent off for that challenge.

Fat Frank, Gerrard, Bergkamp (role is mixed but he was phenomenal) Giggs, Scholes... And that is just the PL era.

De Bruyne is phenomenal but you have to respect the guys who came before as well.
Giggs primarily did his best work on the wing.

I have KDB ahead of Scholes, Frank and Stevie G. He's on par with Bergkamp I think, maybe just shades him now.

Your top 50 thread.

8. Lampard
7. Bergkamp

4. Scholes

Now you’ll say it was Welly who asked for it but you’d have pushed harder if you felt stronger.

He is the best central attacking player the league has seen from midfield.

In terms of peak level I do agree. I doubt he'll be recognised ahead of all three of Lampard, Gerard, & Scholes though as people won't be able to look past their longevity in these debates.

Never said it was a dive. Just said Ben White went down easier than a 2 euro hooker for something that barely touched him. I get kicked stronger in the back of the leg by accident on the tram at times. He was trying to get Dias sent off and everyone knows it. Same as Kane v Everton.

As if playing stones onside wasn't embarrassing enough, White then dives embarrassingly on that

Yeah, I said dive. Apologies, what I clearly meant as seen in my follow ups just after is that he threw himself to ground like a little sissy with a minor touch trying to get someone sent off.

Doubling down lol. Clearly meant.

That was a long time ago. But I'd have him (Bergkamp) ahead of Scholes.

Just like Welly wanted Shearer was number 1.

KDB has been doing it for a long time.

And I guess it's not his fault he wasn't English.

He is better than all 3 for me.

Absolutely staggered that Arteta keeps backing in the same starting 11 unless due to injury since the Pool game when Trossard has been a goal providing menace.
Hopefully the CL guarantee means we get an upgrade on the positions we need. I was hoping for White CB and Tierney inverted RB.
Sadly as talented a manager as Arteta is, he is still very green and naive at times with tactics and selections.
That said we were up against Oil Money FC who last season went out and bought one of the best strikers in the world, and next off-season probably lash another 60mil on a squaddie and we just don't have that luxury.
Have to hope other teams like Pool and Chelsea can get back up to speed to take more points off City next year to try and even out the competition before it ends up looking like the Bundesliga.
More or less did the same v Liverpool and West Ham.
Needed a change up. Trossard should’ve started a few games, Smith Rowe is back.
Gabriel Jesus has been meh for a while

Bradesmaen Just wondering how far out the goal has to be for it to not be a tap-in.

What do you reckon about this one?

Some people do struggle with English on this forum. I said tap in goals. He scored 1 last night so can't be considered "goals". If Zidane can talk about him being a find based on his time at Liverpool so far, I can mention his entirety of EPL goals.
