EPL Matchday 5

We brought Winks on as more of a defensive shield at the same time. Bale should have sealed the win away.

The goals were from a free kick, own goal and a goal from not clearing a free kick
He really shouldn’t have been required to. It’s irrelevant how goals came, more defensive approach and they could have been preventable

Bringing Bale on was a very un-Mou like move, usually he shuts games down.

Understand he wants to give Bale badly needed minutes but should have absolutely shut it down

Europa league is coming up, that's the time for Bales match fitness. League cup also.

A more defensive approach would have seen us sit back further. With dumb defensive players they would still have been just as likely to make stupid defensive mistakes but even more dangerous areas

Can we talk about the Sheffield - Fulham game?

Far more interesting than the dribble that’s been posted the last 10 pages 🙄
Mitrovic had a stinker. Missed pen, gave away a pen and missed a number of headed chances.

Liverpool have conceded 2.5 goals a game WITH VVD so far this season.

He's obviously a big loss, but they can't get much worse defensively than they have already been this season with him.

You can discount the Villa game as a freak one off. 3 deflected goals, 1 offside & 1 goal from Adrian turning the ball over. 5 of those goals were from very unlikely scenarios, we certainly were cursed that week with Allison injured & Thiago/ Mane out with COVID.

I agree to some extent.

Although you've only kept 1 clean sheet so far this season and it was against a Chelsea side that had 10 men for half the match.

You do realise we only had 3 CBS this season right? Now down to 2 through no fault of our own. You can accept it if its accidental but the crazed trex arms had eyes only for Van Dijk and absolutely launched at him. Its a huge loss, would be a miracle to win the title now. Undoubtedly we'll buy a CB in Jan but that doesnt help us until then. Itll be kids playing / midfielders shoehorned in until then.

What’s that got to do with how many you have conceded this season?

VVD and Gomez have played pretty much every match? Other than the Chelsea game if I remember.

nor should he. between on field refs and people in the var booth retrospective action is pretty much dead in the water. pickford did something dangerous and could've/should've been sent off there. they decided not to. they already had all the angles and replays available. cant just go and change their mind because van dijk got a serious injury
