Chelsea should have and could have won that game. Thought they were the better team overall, just couldn't take their chances
Taking your chances is kind of the whole point of the game. I don’t think Chelsea had another clear cut chance and the Jackson goal was a millimetre on side.

I agree re. Jones non shot - no idea what he was waiting for.

Don't even know why it's a discussion for the B.Silva offside. Can't blame the linesman for calling it as from his view it probably looked like B. Silva was in the keeper's line of sight.

Upon VAR replay absolutely clear that B. Silva was not interfering with or affecting the keeper playing / saving the ball. One of the most obvious of calls to overturn.

For anyone that wonders why the referee was sent to the screen for a OFR it is mandatory for subjective offside calls to be overturned (player interfering / not interfering with play).

Looked like he was caught between going around the keeper and finishing it.

Frustrating loss, two pretty soft goals to give away with a silly challenge from Colwill and then just nobody tracking Jones running into the box. Great ball from Salah too.

Not having Cucurella definitely hurt, Gusto didn't have the same impact on the left as he would on the right.

Really really liked Lavia, he and Caicedo could be a very good pairing in time.

i understand why many think that the Silva incident was a clear goal, however I certainly don’t think it should be.

The IFAB rules clearly state “an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball”.
The keeper starts to come forward once the corner is taken and Silva deliberately leans into him (not just blocking) to stop him doing so.
His action has clearly impacted the play, and having done so, is in an offside position once the header comes in.

I’m expecting that this rule will be rewritten soon enough as it’s a clear exploitable loophole in the current rules.

Blatant corruption once again involving City

You're missing that his action impacted the goalkeeper before he was offside. Between the corner being taken and the header is irrelevant in terms of offside.

PL changes the rules pre season on holding/ blocking on set pieces and Silva should have been penalised when he pushed into Sa. Probably would’ve been in intl football. Doesn’t matter if it was before they kick either. Offending on set pieces has got out of hand

You’re missing that I started my post that I understand why people are in step that it is a clear goal.

I think it shouldn’t be, as it’s a deliberate action to stop a player challenging for the ball, with no interest to challenge for the ball themselves.

To take it to an extreme, Imagine a team deciding that they will sacrifice their centre forward to stand in front of the keeper leaning into them at all times, regardless of where the ball is. And they dive out of the way just as a player is about to take a shot. All good according to the rules apparently.

I think I misinterpreted your post because you were saying Silva was in an offside position. I think by that you mean he was impeding and that's how he got in that position?

Anyhow, blocking keepers is standard practice these days, either stamp it out by disallowing all goals like that or let it go on. People are furious either was because people gonna be people.

I quite like the idea of everyone but the keeper having to be outside the six yard area when the corner is taken.

Maybe even have a limit on how many can be in the penalty area on a corner.

They're a mess atm.

Would certainly save us from ourselves. We keep putting 8 in the box plus two on the corner then get confused at conceding 4 goals from our own corners in 10 games.

Yeah I didn’t explain my thoughts clearly sorry.

What I was clumsily trying to say was that in my opinion, if a player is deliberately pushing into a goalkeeper with no intent to play the ball, then it should be a free kick. Blocking a run I can understand and accept.

I don't mind that idea. Free kicks outside the area have been cleaned up by the attacking players not being able to interfere with the defensive wall.
