Another 'hypothetical' (which probably won't happen)

Report in the sun today that if Hawks and Tigers end up on equal points, percentage for eigth spot the AFL DOES NOT HAVE A RULE IN PLACE for that contingency. What a disgrace. The report speculates that they will meet this week and declare that the winner between them in the H&A will prevail. Now Richmond beat Hawthorn already so if they decide that it would be a disgrace also

In this case there should be a straightforward coin toss.

Still, thats in the case of a loss by both clubs, as a win might see geelong or somebody out.

Really the Hawks need to win as richmond play on sunday and will know most of the other results. If they went in with a "we need only to lose by not more than 25 points scenario it would be disapointing.

As I said before it's highly hypothetical but another case of the rules being inadequate.

Maybe do a count back on

- Most goals scored
- Least goals conceded

or if they are still even, maybe still more obscure stats like

- Least rushed behinds
- Highest individual team score in a game
- Lowest team score conceded in a game.
- Longest winning streaks
- Biggest winning margin in a game

or maybe just toss a coin !

Pess,

I know that it disadvantages your team in this instance but surely the position in the eight should be decided by the result/s between the two teams during the year. It is a much fairer than a simple coin toss.

I do agree with you that it is disgraceful that no plans are in place for this possible situation.

Or Maybe a shoot-out Goalkicking competition at colonial on wednesday night - I'd back the Hawks in that one !

It's amazing that a billion dollar sporting organization does NOT have rule or set of rules to accomodate a situation where 2 teams have exactly the same percentage.

But nobody should be surprised, if the AFL was a real business the shareholders would have sacked the board a long time ago!

A possible solution is to go down to the 5th or 6th decimal place, if points for and against are identical a simple coin toss should determine the outcome. I'd like to add the results of the previous meetings between the two teams but since we don't play each other twice it's not fair.
