Because the value of the draft pick is determined by the talent they think is going to be available. The do not trade for a pick the sit down and go hmmmm I wonder who we might be able to get around this spot.

Again no one said they identified a specific player.

No my whole argument is that clubs would target picks based on the position they feel the player/s they want are going to land.

Best to not exchange with him as he is probably not going to stop, concede or retract.

It is the story of Jesus

With Mitch Brown going to a Melbourne based club E-Mac won't be going anywhere, not unless an offer too good to refuse is made.

Unfortunately for you this is only your personal opinion and not that of the WCE ...still its nice to fantasize in your head and pretend you're an actual list manager at WC. ;)

I am actually the list manager at West Coast.

He is staying unless a stupidly good offer comes in.

Brown's wife is leaving her netball team.

So (assuming Brown goes too) that does mean that eMac is literally the only talk defender outside our best 22. Trading him would leave us in a bad spot.

If thats true... care to elaborate on lewis jetta and redden for your fans?

Both are going to the Saints for all of your draft picks for the next 5 years.

You confuse 'trade value' with 'use value' – and apply the latter in an unrealistic way, relying on a certainty regarding late picks that simply isn't justified.

Again no one started talking about certainty besides you.

You confuse "your opinion" with "fact". And apply your your opinion in an idiotic way.

You think clubs have got the draft plotted out to the point they would acquire draft picks with that order in mind.

But when your talking about picks in the third round, the variables are all over the shop – and of course there is then the even bigger unknown of whether those players will become any good. Your argument does not give enough weight to these uncertainties.

That's an absurd comment.

Instead of making any real argument, your response is: 'That's just your opinion.'

That does nothing to suggest that you're right. It's the kind of response that would still be available to someone who knows absolutely nothing. No matter how wrong you might be, that line is still an option.

No it isn't.

Apply the rest of what you said to your self.

there might be other issues at play here. you might be looking for salary cap relief
I wouldn't think so, not unless we have a big name coming. Which I doubt.

But it would also leave us with three tall defenders on our list. If we have salary cap issues it would be best to resolve them elsewhere IMO.

where else is the money tied up?

down back is where i think you can afford to lose a player. mackenzie makes sense due to freeing up the cap. if someone goes down then use brown

theres no point paying someone >= 500k to play WAFL

It looks like Brown is leaving as a free agent. We could always pick up a young defender or someone from the WAFL on the rookie list.

There is no point going into the season without a single tall defender outside our best 22. We will lose brown, but if we can bring in a decent backup I agree it would be good to trade him. But keeping him would be fine, as he would likely play a lot for us with injuries and the potential for gov to play forward.

And what are we getting in return?

Or are we just trading him out for fun?

I wish I had more faith in WC’s trading acumen. But if Mackenzie does request a trade, I imagine we’ll cough him up for pick 30-odd. How thrilling it would be if we actually dug our heels in and extracted a better deal.

What do you mean we’re not getting end-of-first-round comeopnsation for Scott Selwood? Still funny.
