His ball use can still be kind of iffy, but when it comes to standing a key forward and not letting him kick a bag, he's the best we've got.

Stick him on Dixon, since Charlie beat Barrass pretty comprehensively earlier this year.

Kennedy FF
Gov CHF
Barrass CHB
McEasy FB

To make that work - we need a bloke who can ruck 75% gametime - to allow Gov to only chop out ruck.

it could be Lycett this year, but certainly not NN next year

The one thing I'll say about our talls - we could potentially cover it better if we had genuine crumbing forwards. We don't... we may have one in rioli - but lecca, hill, cripps aren't natural crumbers

He is winning more and more contests, trending back to his best. Destroyed Stringer 1v1, perhaps his first real convincing win on a player since his knee.

Just remember Petrie is a good insurance policy not the answer.

If Gov can start kicking straight our forward line will become very potent when JK returns.

Darling plays Le cras role and pushes up field more.

Kennedy is a leading FF where Gov takes big marks in packs better. They just need 5ime to gel together in the same 50 m arc.

We are a better team with Emac in it.
If Petrie is playing the way he is playing, he plays. He'd do a better job at CHF than Darling. He actually competes in the air.

Well that's due to his superior height - not sure how tall Petrie is in comparison to Darling, but we all know that 3rd tall is Jacks best position due to his lack of height.

anyhow, back to Mackenzie. Would rather Barrass and McGovern in defence than Mackenzie. Other than the kick Barrass is strong and outmuscled Redpath who is borderline a monster to mark that ball. Team defence wise he sets up so much better than Mackenzie. In general play Mackenzie just makes so many stupid decisions. I wish him well but he has to leave the club at the end of the year.

I saw Shuey outmuscle Redpath at one stage

I'd also trust EMac to win the ball and do something positive with it compared to say, Sheppard at the moment. Mackenzie will only improve with confidence

And that is why McGovern should play CHF and Darling plays Le cras HFF and pushes up the ground and use his speed and endurance to loose his opponent.

Gov is our best contested mark and JK our best leading forward, if these two can gel in the same forward line and Darling moves to a HFF they would kick 9 goals between them every week.

I agree with this hut Gov is a terrible goal kicker and always has been. For some reason he just freezes in front of the sticks. Now as a pro he should be able to sort that out but when???
For me he is better in defence and long term Vardy is our CHF. Vardy is built for the CHF role

I see Vardy more as a resting ruck / forward. Hegot the height and marking ability but not the agility and defensive attributes you need. Gov has laid some great bone crunching tackles the last few weeks, has the speed and reads the play better both attacking and defending in the forward half.

Personally Gov is too good a backman not to play in defence. His physicality, reading of the play and precise bold kicking is such an asset. What we are doing right now is like if Jack Riewoldt got injured and the Tigers decided to play Rance FF. It's silly.
Match Committee have a headache ahead of them. To me we've been doing well without winning hitouts but we need Lycett in, it's not a knock on what the other guys have done, he's just a better ruck. Then there is JK. One of Barrass or MAckenzie must go this week and then it's can you play JK, Petrie, Lycett, Vardy and Darling.

Has always been the most athletically gifted of our backmen, it's almost an unfortunate position to be in to have 3 genuine quality tall KPDs ... it's like we're playing quality > position at the moment and just trying to fit them all in but it hasn't been too bad yet.

Perhaps the answer is "horses for courses"! Play EMac when a key forward needs shutting down, and when there is no key forward play Barrass - obviously depending upon form and injury.
