Was going to be touch and go if we were delayed by that extra season but provided she gets through the upcoming season unscathed, put your house on Erin Phillips signing on as our big name recruit.
She’ll do absolutely anything for just one season with us!

Or first coach. December 2022 she is 37.5 years old and will be better than most players, unless she does another knee injury or similar.

Listening to Jenny Williams on Port having a team on AA. She will want a gig with Port.

I'm certain she'll play if she physically can, it's a life long dream.

As for Jenny Williams, she can want that all she likes but she better hope there's a fair dose of your old mate corporate amnesia at Alberton or there's no chance lol.

It's an interesting comment given the rumours about Tex having previous indiscretions in regards to his behaviour towards the AFLW team and also same sex relationships.

To be clear I have only seen those as unsubstantiated BigFooty rumours. But the way Erin has thrown Tex under the bus made me think of them.

During the South Adelaide Barracking Broadcast on the weekend, they were discussing Port's AFLW coach and they seemed to think that Phillips is a front runner for the job. Greg though not Erin.

He's apparently doing a good job with the Women's team at SMOSH-West Lakes. Kutchie coach, Erin Captain.

Then get Shaun back to get involved somehow.

Make these appointments and make it clear to Jenny, this isn't the Williams Family Football Club, its the Phillips Family Football Club.

They also seemed to think it was inevitable that Erin would play for Port.

Erin would have stipulated in her contract with Adelaide that when Port gets into the AFLW she's going to sign up with them - hence why she only agreed to a 1 year extension when the possibility that Port could get a gig the following year.

Let's face facts - we're not talking about a super intense, 22 round season + finals, which is the main reason most players don't play past 34/35. It's half that. Phillips could play until she's 40 the same way that Debbie Lee did and still be one of the best players on the field.

Facing facts, she wasn't among the best 20 players on the ground in this year's grand final, despite tearing Brisbane apart earlier in the season. Her body isn't going to be more reliable come late-30s, except insofar reliably more injury prone.

The main benefit of bringing Phillips across is not the marks and goals she'll personally provide in her twilight years, rather the flow-on effect. For instance, if Port can't get her, it doesn't bode well for recruiting the other dozen-players-of-a-certain-quality required in order to have a remotely competitive team from day one.

As far as playing contracts go, we know they aren't worth the paper they're written on at the best of times. And beyond the upcoming season, there are no AFLW contracts written at all, anyway. Informal commitments have been made in some cases, but that's it, precisely because the league is allowing for an expansion signing free-for-all. Erin's signature adorns the same widely available Standard Playing Agreement as that of ~420 peers, in which there's nothing that will stop her from strolling home unimpeded.

Erin no longer in the Crows leadership group - in the 'departure lounge' already?

Looks promising. Even if we get just one playing year from Erin being the veteran leader of the team then I think we'd all be happy with that. Similar to Brett Chalmers spending the last two years of his career with us and now his sons are Port mad. Hopefully Erin can then transition into a coaching role with us.

Getting S.Burgoyne back to the club could be a factor here as well with Erin possibly wanting to be more involved with the family at Alberton.

I expect the Corporation will make her an offer they'll think she can't refuse, like naming the training oval at Brompton/Thebby "Erin Phillips Arena" or some such - Matthew Clarke will be expendable if it means thwarting our aspirations.
