Toast Esava

Yeah ok

It seems you’re the only one with high expectations from a 2nd year player hat hasn’t even played a senior game yet. You are just not worth engaging with in all honesty...dead serious

Good key position forwards are hard to find late in the draft. He is a late pick. He was also pretty terrible last year in the vfl. Fitness is also a concern. Not sure if you are a troll or not?

Agree with what you say.

Have you watched him at VFL??

First real glimpse I had of him today, and I am a very big fan.

His ability to provide high quality leads will be difficult for key defenders to go toe to toe with, he is quicker than I thought.

Got a good penetrating leg, fantastic work at ground level and second third efforts to fight in the contest.

Didn’t have a lot of chances today at it but others say he has a big leap and can clunk a mark overhead.

If he puts in a good game against Essendon; can see him being in the frame for a round 1 birth instead of buzza.

I’m not a fan of buzza, but I am already a big wrap for this kid. Very raw, has a lot of upside and development to work with.

Yes ... he looks much fitter now. Id say he will look very good at VFL level this year ... my comments on his kick are based on what I saw while he was playing at that level. Id agree with the ESS thing..probably should start against them.

Still miles away and this thread is extreme premature ejaculation.

Buzza was a hell of a lot better last year in the vfl than Esava. Esava will have to improve dramatically from last year as he was so far off the pace.

He could barely run out a quarter today which is a major concern.

Personally, I think Buzza and Esava are both long shots to be anything more than a servicable key position forward. Which is what is expected from low draft picks spent on key position players.

Id agree with most that... nothing wrong with getting a bit excited but realistically both a long shots

Wouldn’t expect anything else from your keyboard.

Key forwards take time to develop. It’s purely raw ability and potential right now. Nobody is expecting a ready made player from a second year forward.

How good was Nathan Ablett Tom Hawkins their second years? How good was Cameron Mooney his second year?? Enlighten us on this superstar second year key forward of any recent times besides Riewoldt. I could go on and on about quality key forwards who looked similar or worse their first and second years. Doesn’t work like this.

Fitness is something you work on long term by the way, it isn’t determined by your second season. Shows massive upside to come, he has every trick in the bag you could ask for as a key forward.

Your posting that your draft position determines how good a player you can be yet your posting if someone else is a troll?? Hmm.

Just off the top of my head both fevola Taylor walker and Cameron Mooney where identical picks or later to sav. So no it doesn’t determine how good you are. Dumb post

If we do play a second key forward, who would you pick at the moment??

No one else had access to Taylor walker as he was a scholarship player. Both Mooney and fevola were drafted 2 decades ago and a lot has changed since then.

For forwards, where they are drafted is a big indicator whether they will make it or not.

Absolute dribble. Both hawkins and ablett made there AFL debut early in their career whilst Esava has struggled to get a kick in the vfl.

He kicked three goals in his VFL debut...

Sav was inconsistent last year, no doubt about it, but that's hardly surprising for a first year KPF from a non-AFL background. He still played some pretty good games.

All you people saying Esava is the second coming of Buddy should be ashamed!

Oh wait.

If he plays well against Essendon I see no reason why he can’t be a round one starter!! He has a lot more potential and upside than buzza and should be played ahead of him.

The pressure and ground ball efforts of ratogolea and buzza just shouldn’t even be compared on the same level. Can see no reason why buzza should be ahead at all this point in time.

He cant even run out half a game, that would be a good reason to not play him round 1.

Buzza is actually excellent pressure and tackle player and is one of his strengths. he is just below average at just about everything else.

The way i see it. Leave Esava in the vfl all year and if he improves enough he gets another year on the list.

Buzza needs to improve his ruckwork dramatically so he can give a chop out in the ruck. He should model his game on martin from brisbane in that regard. One thing Buzza did show was massive improvement from season 1 to season 2. Esava needs the same

He actually was consistant though if you take out his 3 goal outlier game. All the rest was 0-1 goals 5-10 touches a game
so you are telling me a project tall forward draft pick, who hasn't even been playing that long wasn't a star???!! OUTRAGEOUS!!

ffs the way some people go on you would think we thought he was Buddy, people have hope and post accordingly.... and there is something that grabs people about a key you key forward.
He may never play an AFL game, but there is nothing wrong with being excited by the potential

AFL scouting was a full time profession back when Mooney and fevola where drafted, so just simply no, your argument doesn’t have any legs other than your troll opinion.
You just can’t handle being pointed out your wrong. There are examples of quality forwards going late over the years, you will just dismiss it as it doesn’t suit your narrative.

Other clubs did have access to walker; could have gone and talked to Taylor walker early on. each AFL club had access to NSW scholarship players, it wasn’t an exclusive Adelaide thing to be able to sign him up. Nobody else bothered to talk to him, you don’t think if he was elite kid he would have had scouts lining up to try and lure him?? Adelaide was the only club interested.

Hawkins went backwards after his first couple of games. He struggled to get a kick in a side with the best team in the AFL delivering it to him for years until 2011, N Ablett was absolutely terrible his second year at AFL level, he played against the bulldogs late in the season and he had about 2 touches for the afternoon and looked way out of his depth, so your just far off the mark again with both.

Also how did Cameron Mooney go his second season??

Bottom line it takes time to develop into a quality forward, lots of quality talls look very average early in their careers.

Benny Brown from Norf is one that was openly draftable and overlooked by most just a few years ago.

Pick 47 in 2013, so pretty similar recruitment circumstances to Esava.

After what I saw yesterday, I would tell big Sav he is playing the first five games at full forward, no ruck duties, just leading out of the square. I would guarantee the first 5 games even if he is not kicking goals, give him confidence and let him lead to our champions coming out of the middle.

Yeah. Thats fair enough

Disagree with a lot of this. Not many gun key position forwards around that were not early picks, Academy/preselection or father sons with the exception of perhaps ben brown.

I am also not saying he will make it, and last year he was a country mile off it... but I also think he has a really high ceiling potentially ... and could well improve dramatically much like Buzz did.
Time will tell, very much looking forward to seeing how he goes in the VFL early in the season

One thing I agree with you about is none of this ruck duties crap.
How will we ever build a decent forward spine if all we worry over is ruck tapping.
Only on rare occasions if possible.
I'm a supporter but first 5 games?
Big call!...see what he brings JLT 2 that's if he even plays.
Sick of seeing our potential screwed with, cast in a permanent role he could be special, has the equipment.
