He seems to gel well with the other forwards. Definitely took the attention of the intercept marker. Stopped him blocking Menz and Hawk's passage to the ball. Asset this kid. Hope they persevere. Lordy, bring Cocky and Danger into that forward line and it looks menacing
Cockatoo Hawkins Parfitt
Menzel Danger Ratagolea

Then have Ablett, Selwood, Menegola, Gregson, Parsons, Fogarty running through there as well
Hawks defense should be very afraid.

If he could be half the player brown is he will be an asset.
Both Brown and Daniher went through long periods of being spuds before realizing potential.
I often fear that our "always contending" mentality makes it less likely we will persist with these guys and give them solid enough runs to get to comparable levels of confidence. (Unless they are F/S picks )

8 touches and a goal. Around the same output as a bad buzza game. Its a start though and he presented well enough
bad buzza game? buzza averaged 8 touches and less then a goal a game last year. esava actually has clean hands unlike fumbles buzza and didnt give away stupid free kicks like buzza either. i hope buzza never plays again. no future.

he is a better prospect then buzza.
He has more tricks than Buzza. See the way he was happy to carry the ball through traffic and dish off a handball? Impressive. And that’s even before we have seen him launch for a screamer.

I’m not giving up on Buzza. But his ceiling is a lot lower. He can develop into a solid citizen key forward in the Ben Brown mould.

it was impressive. Completely missed by the commentators too. They will be to build his fitness and help him develop a football brain. If he can do that he could be a great player as Athletically speaking he has the tools and his hands look very clean.

As for Buzza I dont think Ive seen a geelong forward prospect with worse hands in my life. He simply wont make it as a player of his size if he cant mark the ball no matter how good he is at hitting the packs. Hopefully the rumours of him being blind are true and his hands problem is actually an eye problem that can be rectified with surgery. Otherwise I give him 0 percent chance of making it.

As others have pointed out he has all the ingredients to be a long term player, but my only knock on Esava's game on the weekend was that he went to ground too easily at times.

Buzza apparently continues to have issues with his sight which affects his depth perception hence the reason he runs under an incoming marking ball so much. I know he's had corrective surgery but it seems it hasn't fixed this issue.

ah thats no good. Its very hard to play ball sports at a professional level if your eyes arent up to scratch unfortunately.

is Lever the most overrated and overpaid footballer in the league?

As a key position defender he possibly is. Not disciplined enough or smart enough in a one on one contest IMO. He panics alot under pressure with ball in hand as well.
As a 3rd up defender he's dangerous.
Reminds me a bit of Jason Cloke. Played a similar role and looked good in a reasonably strong side (and was receiving some glowing reviews at the time) but was eventually found out. Mind you I do think Lever is better than Cloke.

Adelaide may have low-balled him initially in their contract negotiations, but $800,000 p.a. from Melbourne for a 3rd up defender is OTT. That's similar to the money Dangerfield is reportedly on.

Buzza may even end up back ..he has been tried there... ... they are all rolls of the dice ..Sav was a slightly earlier pick so I guess that has him slightly a better chance

Good one grabber which is appealing. Great intensity too and showed a bit more spacial awareness in close than I thought he possessed. Needs another pre-season to build his endurance significantly. Still a better option than Stanley I think.

On output Stanley would still produce more than 8 touches and a goal but worth giving Sav games to develop as the potential is there. The leading forwards are going to love the delivery from Ablett and Kelly. That pass from Kelly to Sav at full tilt was unstoppable.

In one game Esava showed more game knowledge and spacial awareness than I've seen in 50 of Stanley's. That piece of play where he fed the ball out in traffic to a runner (can't remember who it was) was a terrific piece of play. It showed that he is capable of being not just a mark-kick type forward. His ruck work was also very serviceable. He clearly lacks a tank and that will be his challenge to improve his endurance and ability to do repeat sprints for 4 quarters.

On the basis of that game I'd be getting as many into him as possible.

What output statistically are you expecting from a teen key forward playing his first game??

If your expecting a walk up 35-50 goal kicked right away, then your being dillusional.

This takes patience and years of senior experience. It’s a slow gradual game with key forwards.

Very blunt and harshly put, but I agree buzza won’t make it. Doesn’t have the tools or skills to make it to be frank.

Keep in mind he was pick 77 so we didn’t really invest much anyway.

Esava has all the skills and raw ability to make it. Incredible talent!!

I am a big fan, called it first thing when I saw his game in the JLT. You only need to see glimpses and patches of play with a young key forward to be able to figure out if they have what it takes to work with or not.

Sav can become an A grade key forward with his ability, I have no doubt.

Had enough of this.....focus on the football and abstain from multiple abusive posta directed at one poster,

You dont like him? Fine...put him on ignore.

You can have a day off to think about it

Lever is the most overrated player in the league, how someone who pretty much plays loose man in defence is worth so much truely baffles me.

He really isn't, Rioli takes that mantle with Bontempelli not far behind him.

Remember that the 800k is post the 20% pay bump - so 660ish in the old cap. Danger should be on about 960,000 now.
