Well, I Disagree.
Just remember this, he is not a CHF he is a Forward-Ruck Hybred.
We do not have a CHF in the Magoos.... and No No Krueger is not one.... Nor is Buzza.
He (a CHF) will have to come via Free Agency or via trade for i would say Tim Kelly. Did someone say Jarrod Brander??
He plays in the CHF spot that keeps our structure and is there to creates a contest to allow our smalls a fighting chance, something we did not have previously. Also providing back-up ruck work for Stanley.
Those who are of the opinion he is a CHF have been drinking way too much cool aid i'm afraid.
Anyway let see what comes from the next half a dozen games til the bye and then we will have a better body of work to analyse it a lot better.
Cheers & Go Catters!!

Its an interesting distinction... Im not sure how you see it.. on Kruger etc..

But imo .. football is so much role play now that a term like CHF is really a bit redundant. Talls like Kruger have inaite talents that have been used in the forwardline ..now we are giving him time down back. I suspect he will eventually become a KPF of some sort , basically a marking role.

You forgot two important descriptions... Strength and contested footy. Like Chook last year he'll stay in the VFL for the majority of the year.
The guy needs a season or two in the gym... very much like Mitch Brown needed. If he doesn't he'll just be a Mitch Brown clone... albeit a quicker one.

You think NKruger is a Mitch Brown ? I dont see the comparison atm ..he looks stronger in the body than what Brown was ... but its all opinion on minimal data.

Menzel did a spell in defence to work on the defensive side of his game. I think that it made him a better forward. Of course this was prior to the ACL injuries. So I can see Kreuger doing much the same and hopefully being a good forward for the Cats.

If it gets him a chance to get into the side earlier , if it makes him a better forward or player.. all for the good.

I agree that at some point Sav will need a break but until then or someone is bashing down the door (is there a player in that space?) lets keep giving him the exposure.

Why? His best attribute is his contested marking and his athleticism - precisely what you want in a CHF. He doesn't have all the tools yet, but he has the big one.

Plenty of CHFs provide relief ruck work - Roughead does it, Casboult, Sam Reid. Doesn't stop them from being good CHFs.

We do not have a CHF in the Magoos?
We choose one every week.
Buzza is a CHF, Krueger could be. I mean, I get that you're being literal... but all the same, there are tall forwards in that side.

(But Smith, Abbot and Fort are all ruck players first and foremost).

To be fair, I think most of the commentary has been on managing his form rather than doubts over his long-term quality.
Not completely. A lot of comments here that he was over-rated. But my point is A big player needs time. Lang or Miers type players put in 3 quiet ones in a row, and its back to the bankers. Bigger players just need more time to get used to the pace etc.

Not by me and I have been posting a few of the responses.

Kicked his 1 goal and took some grabs today against a good defensive unit.

All you can ask of him. Well done on his game

You've got it right, l was first to back him last year when we needed another tall marking fwd.(pre season)
He's still not marking well but we saw a pro active Sav today, he does that and he's a lock every week.
His value to the side is immense when he cracks in and doesn't wait for it to come to him.
Pleased to see he's doing just that cheers.

To be honest I know he has had low stats games this season, but if it wasn't for his poor goal kicking we'd be saying he's solid. He should have had 3 today and the 2 that missed weren't awful kicks, just a smidge off.

If he'd kicked the ones he should have this season he'd be going at goal a game. Meanwhile getting to plenty of contests, bringing the ball to ground and following up with some good ground work. I'm not seeing a huge amount of evidence for his opponents peeling off and mopping everything up, or springing back to Tomahawk to double team him instead (leaving Sav free).

Positionally and intent wise he's ticking a few boxes that are helping the team as a whole. MASSIVE room for improvement and a lot to work on but chopping and changing between a series of young key forwards is not the way to go. Back the lad in.

To their credit, the selection committee have backed him in from the very start of last year, off very, very limited form in the VFL. I mean, in 2017, he did not hit double-digit touches in a single VFL game, and even got absolute donuts in one.

They still gave him the CHF spot in 2018 from round one.

I have to assume he is motivated and determined to get the most out of his game.

I saw him in one reserves game last season. He was jumping all over the place, it was windy, and the delivery was atrocious. Nearly as bad as the seniors, sans Gary lol. He hardly got a touch.

But when I saw him in the seniors, I thought "Oh, we got one here." I still think that.

A person I respect a lot, Boris Bewick, coach E Ranges and former Bombers champ, was commentating on KRock today, and he was full of praise for Geelong, said it's the most comprehensive display of footy by a team he's seen this year.
Moreover, he was also full of praise for the big bloke we missed last year, who is always offering a contest at marking, and crashing packs, and a nightmare for opposition coaches to deal with. That was Sav, and as many of us have been saying, he needs and deserves time , patience and respect.
After all, Barry Stoneham was only a shadow of himself when he returned from a fractured tibia. Sav is the player we need where he is, and is competing really well. He only gets a rest when the MC thinks he needs it, no sooner. Any calls for some VFL time are ignorant from us.

Sav was better today and that will keep him in a while but i still worry that he looks his best when he is relief rucking where he roams and jumps and blocks and creates space for others..he looks a little lost with the leading patterns at CHF and isnt clunking his marks although the workrate is clearly there. With Stanley going so well in the ruck we need a good fwd more than a ruck and we will get away with it but the big ground at the MCG against a top 4 side is where you need a high performing CHF more than anywhere else and i worry about him there. That said he's got some real ability and im not sure we have a better option in his spot currently (unless we can trade one in at year's end etc).

Wow hang on there! Look who started this thread. Believe you were second in!

Doesn’t need to set the world on fire as a 20 year old. Just play like he did today and he keeps his spot!!

We have beaten the 2 GF teams from last year, the team that finished 4th, the team that finished 5th, who we could not beat twice last year.
We are onto a winning feeling, and like in 07, when we "carried" Max Rooke, winning form, cohesion, and availability is critical.
CS will rightly use him every week that Sav is putting up his hand.
Sav is the right player for his position. Rohan is providing nightmare issues for other coaches. We have a functional forward line and the most exciting since the Mooney- NAblett, Hawkins, and Hawkins - Pods.
Rohan is now a crucial link in our fortunes for this year. High marking, but quick. As Joel Selwood said, we are getting a lot more out of him than we paid for him.

In the last Q v Hawks Sav looked shot. He wasn't attacking the game - just hanging in. I was worried we might damage a very promising big man by pressing him in to action when his body and head were not up to it.
Today he was very good. That's why as you said - thank goodness the MC make the decisions.

Exactly right Vdubs
I can't wait until he rips a game open though
He's very capable of that
He's a loping type like Daniher. He can do the spectacular
Love to see him outplay Daniher this week coming

Be interesting if he drags Hooker away from Hawk this week
