Ok to be fair, his first half was a shocker.
Missed marks, rushed kicks that resulted in turnovers, sloppy handballs that didnt hit the target, slow over the ground at times.
Second half was an improvement though.

Still dont agree, i didnt think he was a star by any means but he only gave out one crap handball and missed one mark. None of his kicks resulted in turnovers, one of his hanballs did. A number of his hanballs to running players set up a few of our goals. He wasnt one of our best but he did his job.

I couldn't watch the game but caught the highlights on afl.com - I was amazed how many goals Monfries had a hand in, whether it was quick hands in the forward line or setting it up on the wing, his footy smarts are incredible for someone so young. Will be a very good player for us this year because he makes every possession count

Great game from the boys. Had to watch it down the pub,in the lounge,on a big tv with no sound. But no matter. We still had a great morning watching us bury the hated Crows. I hate Adelaide so much, and to see our side block out that feral crowd and get on with the job (when it looked like they were getting back into it) was very pleasing.

Read most posts and would just be repeating stuff but Longy mentioned how Kepler trots off when he's got the ball and tries to get rid of it while moving backwards. He has to get some confidence and attack. He should focus on running forward and attacking as Longy said. Use that raking boot of yours Kep and just kick it!

Pev will just be Pev. We can't expect Scott West type games from our furry headed fella every week. He got caught a few times today, but he wasn't alone.

Highlight for me....Lloyd back..and

The tackles. Hard strong tackles from everyone. Cant wait to get JJ back to add to that area we lacked in last year.

All in all,for me, this was one of the great wins of our club.

Not one single person gave us a chance to beat the "mighty" Crows and by winning today, the boys will have added a lot of confidence for this side in this vital part of the season:thumbsu:

Watched the game today, first time I have seen the boys this year and I am very impressed.
Foot skills where great. And poise, we seemed to have time to make the right decisions even under pressure. And our defensive pressure, many times we made Adelaide hurry and error in their defense.
The only gripe I would have is some unnaccountable midfielders on the rebound, Adelaide on several occasions ran the ball from defensive 50 to forward 50 with no one running to put pressure on the ball carrier.

Lloyd and Lucas are going to cause a few headaches for a few teams.

Glad to see Winderlich is starting to earn his stripes.

What feral crowd are you referring to? Not a swear word was muttered by any crows fan near us. The word feral being associated with crows crowds is a myth. Normally you get the odd idiot but I didn't have anyone to stick it up. Port crowds on the other hand, they're feral.

Just heard on bomber radio from EFC media guy that media requests for Jetta have already started and that Sheedy has knocked it back.

No interviews of Leroy...which is good imo...keep a lid on it..

Sheedy is a master when i comes to the media, he will know when jetta is ready.

Whats your story sticking up for an Adelaide crowd??

This victory is a great one and its about time we beat the Crows at home.

F-em..they go crazy with delight when they are winning and morbid as hell when their losing..it was great to see all those sad faces.

Was unable to watch/listen to the game but what a fantastic result. Will read up a few match reports in the morning at work/rest. But remember fellers what happened last year round 1, Sydney. Lets not count the chickens before they hatch, big game next week and then we will know if we are alright.

I agree with everything you say in this post, I have been there for virtually every game we've ever played in Adelaide and we've had some horrible thrashings given to us. However, I honestly have never had any problems with the crows crowds bar the odd moron which you get at any game. Crows crowds are made up largely of old grandma's that pack tea and biscuits. They are mostly harmless. Port crowds, they are another story.

i was really pleased to see winders have a good game.

there have been a few people here that have talked him down all summer. i hope his performance makes you second guess your opinion of him.

one thing i'm not a fan of though is that winders and kepler were being rotated. this mean that for 10-15 minutes a quarter we have a different game style. winders and kepler are vastly different players. so that means that the run that winders provides is suddenly lost when kepler come onto the ground.

i'm not bagging kepler as he wasn't too bad today. but i'm not sure about this rotation

Yep, spot on.

It looks as though he's going to get crucified for every mistake he makes this year.

IMO Bradley played ordinary game.

Sure, his clangers count was low, but really, what does he offer the team at this stage? We dont and cant use him to exploit with his size/height, he simply played as a drifter around the place picking up relatively easy kicks.

My point is - we could be putting guys like Houli, Dyson, Dempsey etc instead, who not only have better skills, offer more sheer pace and need game time.

I also dont think Keplers confidence is all that high, Im not sure a stint in the magoos will be all that bad for the kid. He really needs to find a position, whereby his height and size is utilised, because as a big, loping midfielder is simply costing us by taking a position of a fast kid who needs game time.

I think we can cover the bases needed with Laycock, Hille and Ryder - so even if he did start playing well as a tall, which he should be, Im not sure team balance requires him in the team.

Or is it because eveyone has Bradley as their new whipping boy so he is the first to go. NLM was hardly inspiring yesterday either , one could argue that his spot could go to someone else. I cant see Houli,Dyson or Dempsey playing CHF or in the backline if needed or having a run in the ruck for that matter.
Bradley did what he had to do, got 15 possessions didnt stuff up too much and gave us a few different options as far as the role we could use him in.
And why do people keep brining up Dempsey in the lsit of replacements? Yes the kid does have potential but to start with he is currently injured and secondly it would be nice to see him string a few consistant games together for Bendigo before he is given a run in the seniors.

Yes, NLM was hardly inspiring yest, but he has shown in the past he can hold his position and is proven at AFL level. Bradley has never shown he is comfortable at AFL level, despite the continual faith the coaching staff show in him. Different kettle of fish.

I cant see Houli,Dyson or Dempsey playing CHF or in the backline if needed or having a run in the ruck for that matter.

But does Bradley? This is my point - he now looks to be used as a tall wingman/midfielder. How many times does he go to the ruck or CHB and be anything more than very ordinary? For the role, and the way in which Bradley is getting his touches, we have a host of others who can do that role better, faster and with better disposal.

Yes, but does he, or will he get used there? Is there really room for him, when we have potentially Hille, Laycock, Ryder and Johns, all of which can be used as KP forwards or backs ontop of our stable 4, before Bradley. It's about team balance. Im not sure we fits in with guys like Laycock and Johns out, let alone when they are back. As we have so many talls, he is being used now on the bloody wing. We have better wingers.

He hasnt even proven he is a capable KPP for Bendigo yet, let alone at senior level.

He is just a name thrown out there, who can do with a run. We have a host of em.

My point is Bradley isnt used very well at all in this extra "tall" category or "exploiting wingman" role in which many think is his potential.

Why cant HE string consistent games together for Bendigo as well? Is he immune?

I think this is why he is become the whipping boy, because of the unlimited faith the coaching staff seem to have in him, ala guys like Henno and Bolton in seasons past, when at senior level he hasnt looked like it. He cant say he hasnt had his chances. Nothing wrong with sending him back down for a stint.

Interesting to note the goals kicked from marks taken on the weekend from all games played. We came out on top with Port for this stat and shows we have some real marking power down forward.

Johns can only add to those numbers and make us an even better team. Lloyd,Lucas (13 marks against the Crows) and Johns will be a problem for a lot of sides trying to stop and out mark us.

RD1 Goals from marks...

Essendon-11
Port-11

Hawfthorn-4
Brisbane-3
Collingwood-4
Roos-7

After having a night to process my thoughts...
Keps is a good player while running with the ball, his kicking on the run is great.
But when he is standing still after taking a mark he usually disposes of the ball whilst still walking backwards. This is a habit he must get out of.
It resulted in half opportunities for Adelaide.

I may have over exaggerated yesterday, he made a few crucial mistakes and it was lucky that Adelaide couldn't capitalise on those mistakes.
That is just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

Monfries is a f-ing gun. Just the type of young player every supporter would love to have out there. He just gets more confident with every game.

Loved his (Voss like) diving handpass to lloyd in the square who then banged it in for that goal early in the match.

Crow fans would have been thinking how to get him back to SA in a few years time....not that we would let him go...we won't let him be another Wanganeen situation.

He's Ours!!!;)

I thought our forward line pressure in keeoing the ball in was fantastic, our run through the lines and chase as good as I have seen in the last 5 years. With nearly all players fit, I expectto continue to see desperation like this for players to maintain their spot. Thought our big fella's should have dominated more in the middle due to Adelaides lack of players there due to injuries.

With Lonergan, Campo, JJ, Nash, Slattery, Cole, Hislop, Gumby, Houli, Johns, Dyson, dempsey and Neagle all pushing for a place exciting times lie ahead.

Monfries was brilliant yesterday.
That handpass to Lloyd WAS Voss like. Thought the exact same thing when he did it.
This could well be his year.

Angus is probably about 150/1 for the brownlow atm.....might drop in a put $20 on him this week...u just never know.

i have got to say that EASILY the most pleasing thing was the defensive pressure, not just in the forward line but all over the ground.

although we werent TOO bad (still bad) going forward last year, time and time again, our midfielders and forwards REFUSED to be accountable and this cost us dearly - at least as much as our deplorable skill.

skill improved alot today, probably due to a bit more emphasis on it in the pre-season but we werent perfect.

another contributing factor to our win which im surprised anyone hasnt mentioned was the fact that we finally did not OVERPOSSESS! we handballed well, but not too much like we did through so many frustrating hours of football last year...and we got big kicks away quickly and often giving ourselves a chance - very pleasing.

the gameplan of being patient but also running the lines when needed and going through the corridor paid dividends.

still early days...but i was extremely happy.
