Borderline. Welsh certainly isn't. Both are mates with Hird. We will soon find out if he can separate his friendships and do what is best for the team.

People were saying many teams were ahead of Freo this time last year. Who knows what might happen, we might overtake all of those teams, we might not, and we are better than what our form in the second half of the year suggested, we were on fire from rounds 6-10

If we work on an assumption that Mark McVeigh is as you say, better than a fair few on the cats list, then its hard to disagree.

Essendon just strike me as very... vanilla. Theres some talent there no doubt it's just that atm two players in Hille and Watson are of utmost importance to them - because the rest are either not very good, inconsistent or forever battling injuries.
Sorry mate youve forgotten a few players here, remove hislop(spud) and add deledio,conners, newman plus contin to be raised of rookie list
my take is, the dons can play but you are going in with new coaching structures that will take time to implement. Dons supporters will say we won games against top teams so we will probably win same number of game this year. It doesnt work this way because you will not play the same run forward at pace game now, so while i reckon ess arernt that bad but it will take time to learn new game plans!!!

It's not that essendon will worse, its that all the other teams will have made progress forward. For instance Scott for us has done what Knights failed to do for 3 years. All the other developing teams have already identified the next gen players where essendon is still searching for the right players and that could take time and cost essendon games.
So lets see.
West Coast - Will continue to be bottom 3 material this year.
Gold Coast - Will fight WC and Brisbane in a 3 way for the spoon
Brisbane - Falling apart.
Adelaide - Will collapse this year and round out the bottom 4. Having lost Goodwin, McLeod, Hentschel, Burton and Edwards is going to cause them to slide.
Port - Like Essendon have a new coach and a suspect list
Richmond - Will improve but still get knocked around by a lot of teams.
Hawthorn - Contentious I know but they will either have a good year or a terrible one. If Clarkson gets sacked mid-year (and with Jeff who the hell knows) could be a horror year for them.
Essendon - Will win some games, won't win others.
North Melbourne - Still Improving.
This second group of Port, Richmond, Essendon, North and Hawthorn are my pick this year for positions 13 - 9
They could in theory, wind up in any order. And one of them may even sneak into the 8 and displace Melbourne. As such I think Essendon will overall have a 'meh' year results wise, but some good changes in structure, gameplan, and the personnel at the end of the year will lead to a much stronger 2012.
Finally Kings and Donk both being reasonable and fair in their assessments to Essendon in one thread. What kind of weird twilight world is this?

Wow, just wow! Did you watch Essendon at all since Knights took over? His game plans were awful and he had no plan B. Terrible coach. He may not have been the problem but he was a huge part of the problem.
Hahaha coming from the guy that has made it his life work to troll Essendon on the main board. What is it now? 921 out of 940 posts on the main board directly aimed at trolling Essendon.
