I'm not to fussed about next year, but like 2009 IMO we will cause a few upsets and might sneak into the bottom 8.......

Essendon are a really strange and annoying team. At times in 2009 and 2010 we looked brilliant, but other times we really looked beyond deplorable.

Then how do we beat Carlton, St Kilda, Hawthorn and other teams with good midfields?

FFS, the football world and moreso BF, has become obsessed with midfields and while it is more important than it ever has been it isn't everything.

You beat us because we lose virtually every interstate game and have for years if not a decade and you beat us this year in Melbourne because we were at rock bottom and were being coached by a dud.

You don't seriously believe this shit do you? You beat us because we can't win on the road. Everyone knows this.

We generally beat you at home. I think you've beaten us a couple of times in 10 years.

Essendon just strike me as very... vanilla. Theres some talent there no doubt it's just that atm two players in Hille and Watson are of utmost importance to them - because the rest are either not very good, inconsistent or forever battling injuries.

That's true; but I'd say the same of Norf, Crows, yourselves, even Dees & a few others. I don't think we're any length behind that group - who were a couple of wins ahead of us last year & should be pushing for the 8 this year.
Injury run & draw will probably split that group of 6 or 7 teams IMHO.

Yep. Did solid jobs in the back pocket all year. Blanketed Milne and a couple of other pretty good players.
He's not what he was in terms of pace/disposal, and he was caught out a few times trying to do what he could've done in '08 or so; but he did his job week after week.
I wouldn't say he's really any worse than Dasher Milburn or Wojo these days. All 3, you can see the end coming and it's not far off.

Next year we really should be pushing him out for guys like Hibberd etc.

Essendon will finish this year at least 6 spots on the ladder behind Hawthorn. If the 2 sides were combined Hille is the only player who would be selected in the top 10. Hille, Watson, Hurley, Pears, Ryder and maybe one or two others are the only ones who would be selected at all in a 22.

To say that essendon are better than their results show because they beat a few highly fancied teams is a very flawed argument.

For one, take a valium, have a red wine and calm yourself.

Secondly, looking at that list, you really think Pears is better than Stratton? Hurley and Schoenmakers I can understand. Gilham and Hooker is pretty close, but I would pick Hooker because he is younger, even though he ain't much chop.

Fletcher is a better player than Birchall, but Birchall is 22 and will hopefully become a very good top liner for us in a few years.

It's not as clear cut as you are making out. As for the rest of the field, well let's not go there hey.

I don't really know. I wouldn't have. Plenty of very, very good players back themselves on year-to-year deals.
Obviously they're more confident than I am he'll get back a bit fitter this year.

Hopefully we won't continue picking him if he's not deserving; don't really care if he's @ Bendigo his last year.

There lies the problem. If your midfield does become more accountable that is great and it will help your defence. But then pretty much every game you have won in the last 2 years has been a shoot out with your midfield running forward of the ball at every oportunity. If they are not doing this then how does essendon kick a winning score?

On form Watson would have been your second best midfielder last year but he wouldnt make your top 10
