Does Watson get tagged? IIRC Stanton was the one getting heavily blanketed and thus had to move to HBF. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I remember from watching Essendon games last year.

You are right.

The tight tag was placed more often on Stanton than Watson in 2010.

And Lovett copped a few tight tags in 2009.

Think that clubs would rather corral Watson than tag him - His strength is great vision and hands - His handballs can cut a team apart - So teams tended to back off him - encouraging Watson to kick.

Maybe you are 12 and miss games because you aren't allowed to stay up late enough to watch some of them.

Martin was Richmonds best Mid last year. Palmer carried Freos Midfield in 2009, winning the RS, before he did his knee and Rich was outstanding in 2009 also.

ok if you're not 12 I am embarrassed for you.

Hang on a bit, name a absolute champion midfielder Essendon have had in the past 20 - 30 odd years besides Tim Watson?

agreed Watson (Snr) was the last one. but you're not suggesting the game is the same now?

Essendon have always had the Utility in Hird, kpp like Lloyd, Fletcher, Lucas, Salmon, Madden, Vander haar ect [/quotye]

utilities? Hird is the only utility in that lot, maybe the dutchman. the other are key positions.

we have had success building our team on KPP, and that is exactly what we are doing now,

you have had, and so has everyone else - in the past. if you come up with the next carey or jono brown, off you go. you'll be set.

you say we have s#it mids because they are not Swan/ Pendles, ablett / Bartel, Judd / Cousins, But in 2000 it was Misiti / Johnson BUT we had Lloyd, Lucas, Hird and Fletcher.

and now you don't have Swan/Pendles; Ablett/Bartel; Judd/Cousins OR LLoyd/Lucas/Hird.

you might also note that in 2000 they were very few, if any, tactical game plans that didn't revolve around player matchups, and broad stylistic differences.

Pagan's paddock was innovative in the 1990's, look how far we have come from that? Floods, Zones, Rolling Zones, Forward Press, Defensive Press, Rotations etc. now it all revolves around the on ballers - unless you have a spectacular KPP.

Now again we have Hurley, Ryder, Pears, Gumby and Heppell will be the utility, yet Melksham, Colyer, Howlett, Zaharakis, Hocking, Winderlich, Watson and Stanton have as much potential as we have had in a long time.

they're just names, every team has names. take Zaharakis, a guy I happen to like a lot - can we have him? - but he's a rotation player, not a front line guy. every team will have their equivalent. I back him to have a good career, and think he will be more than handy but he ain't one of your difference makers.

12 months ago, you'd have included Neagle on that list.

that is not a particularly great list of prospects at this stage.

yeah mate, Watson gets tagged every week. Otherwise he destroys you. Often he does anyway.

he does not get tagged every week. Port don't tag him, Adelaide doesn't and Collingwood doesn't. now that is 3 I am certain of for a start.

sometimes you guys get confused between a player having a matched up opponent and tag.

not the same thing.

Daniel Harris was an elite clearance player at one stage. king of the stoppage, machine etc. I think Watson's a bit better than that, but its not so far away stylistically. not much hurt happening there.

One of the first things Hirdy mentioned was the midfield.

what's the current exchange rate for draftees per Hirdy Mention? is it still 2:1 :p

with GC & GWS owning the next few drafts, and the amount of time it takes to develop front line midfielders to full capacity, how long will this take? and what will everyone else be doing whilst you do this?

Im over this conversation. Why dont all you experts sit back and let the real experts have there go at building a side.

are these the same experts that built the current side, and sacked their coach after giving him a $$ extension? those ones?

One more thing, Tigers supporters: We are Essendon Football club, we dont and wont take advice from a club thats endured as much sucess as your joke of a club over the past 3 decades.

also fair. you've only been a joke for a single decade :p

I'm sorry remind me the year your club has won a premiership since ours in 2000?

2000 Essendon
2001 Brisbane
2002 Brisbane
2003 Brisbane
2004 Port Adelaide
2005 Sydney
2006 West Coast
2007 Geelong
2008 Hawthorn
2009 Geelong
2010 Collingwood

Don't see Adelaide there? Yet we're the joke? Think you're the joke. We'll win another one before your club gets back on that list, even Port probably will.

run.

Everyone goes on about the midfield. Watson is a star. Not yet elite, but definitely A-Grade. anyone who says otherwise is crazy. Carries the Essendon midfield in a manner befitting Atlas holding the world upon his shoulders in Greek mythology. quote]

This is so embarrassing I don't know where to start. Shame there is no min IQ level required to post on Big Footy.

In the final in 2009 Adelaide actually tagged him with 2 players at once.

In the H&A game in 09 Watson & Stanton slaughtered your midfield in the first half racking up about 35 touches between them including 3 goals from Watson. Only when their impact was diminished was Adelaide able to get on top and get a victory.

Your observations are laughable.

I wrote

Gee people look at the game as a midfielders only game these days, boy are they wrong

Geelong with Ablett, Selwood, Corey, Ling, Bartel lost

to a team where Hodge was the master in defense, Franklin master up forward with Roughead, while Mitchell was a clearance winner.

West Coast lost with Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Braun, Cox

Sydney did not have the absolute champion midfielders, but a Utility in Goodes and a great forward in Hall. and alot of the Watson, Zaharakis types of players

funny how Adelaide got knocked out of the finals with, Riccuito, Goodwin, McCleod, Edwards, Vince all wonderful midfielders.
The Crows gave up Wells for a over the hill Carey, that is how your team rated KPP, oh and they have recruited Talia and Davis with there early picks of late. why?

People think Essendon have recruited wrong, why because we recruited Ryder, Hurley, Pears, Gumbleton. Maybe Essendon have recruited smarter take the KPP in the early part of the rebuild as they often take a bit longer to develop and then get mids like Zaharakis, Colyer, Howlett, Melksham and in the proccess we have been gifted a Utility in Heppell and Hird is trying to turn Steinberg into a utility also.
maybe it is not all that bad.
That is a very well structured group

Yes they do.

Round 7 2010, Matt Thomas from Port tagged Watson. In Round 14 2010 Adelaide had Brent Reilly tagging Watson. And on ANZAC Day Wellingham tagged him, and again in Round 20.

What a shock!

Another double page spread in today's paper on Essendon and the messiah! Incredible!

No doubt Grizz will close this down now I have pointed that out!

First interview Sir James has given since becoming coach. Not that extreme from an Essendon fc perspective, I would have thought. Is it his fault that all the media want to talk about him? It almost seems like you are jealous.

First ineterview he has given but about the 100th article about him and how much the players have improved over the pre-easeon.

Setting him up for a major fall.

Coaching is great until you start losing games.

What has this got to do with him or Essendon? There are 100's of fluff pieces because it sells papers.

Read the article and you will note that he seems pretty relaxed for a guy being set up for a huge fall.

Just because you want it to happen so bad, doesn't mean it will.
