It gives me great pleasure that we took the kid in Will Philips that Essendon so desperately need for their rebuild l.
My body isn't ready to read the other 18 pages of this thread if they're as bad as suggesting we desperately wanted or needed some Auskick kid.

Egg on faces in here, but it happens. Oh well.

This thread will remain dead until after the Elimination Final (if we get there) when it will suddenly find a lot of life.

All the attention will then shift to Essendon’s finals drought as a ā€˜save face’ despite that many of the people ridiculing would have tipped the Dons to finish bottom 2 or 3 this year. Watch this space.

Especially considering Brisbane at the Gabba is the most difficult match up in the competition. Even Port and Geelong got smashed there and Sydney round 1 is the last time they lost at the Gabba. In fact, they've won 18 out of the last 20 games there.

Even if we get thrashed, I consider the season a success (provided that we beat Collingwood).

We aren't even playing finals yet. Have to play Collingwood this week who would love nothing more than to end our season. And they are absolutely capable of doing that on their day. Or we rely on other teams losing which is no way to attack a finals series. If we scrape into 8th we'll have an even W/L record at best which in most seasons isn't good enough to even qualify. But if we do make it i dont think the players will care who or where we play. There isnt anything to lose. A lesson from Brisbane at the Gabba would at worst be a reminder of where we are actually at and where our list physically needs to get to over the next few years.

It would be 100% reminiscent of 2017 when the media went early on Melbourne making the finals before Collingwood snuffed their chances in round 23. That said, Dons are in a very good patch of form and it would be v surprising for the Pies to knock them off.

Also not an insignificant chance to make if we lose as well.

Playing really well and have developed some very good young players this year.

Whatever happens this year happens, but should be in mix over the next few years

It’s amazing what one quality trade period can do for a clubs prospects

Not all young but we’ve added 6 best 25ish players in (Cox, Perkins, Wright, Durham, Hind and Waterman) in one off season. Plus getting solid contributions from Laverde, Jones and Stewart who’ve been largely zero impact players until this year.

Thats a big change in one season.

Draper a big one too.
though he missed a chunk as well, his hitting form has been huge for us.

Parish and Stringer taking next steps to being top players in comp also helps

The unfortunate part is we were forced to have a quality trade period, it wasn't our own doing. The most promising thing is that we finally have a team that can develop players, which has been our undoing for 20 years.

Even if we miss finals, we are on track as a team for the first time in those 2 decades.

who started this thread? a saints fan was it? lol good one
It was such a cheap thread really, way easier to pot the Dons at the start of the season and look prophetic if they did poorly than it was to suggest they’d go well. People make outlandish statements all the time, if you make statements like this on BF you should get an anti-Nostradamus badge or something of the sort so people know you know **** all about footy.

They also only have 1 flag LOL

Honestly big tick for the bombers even if they lose a final
But the thing is expectation will be on them to be back up there again and if the don’t meet those exceptions bombers fans won’t be happy

And TBH, who cares if they do lose and miss finals. They’re on a journey, are building a great young list and have appeared to got all aspects of a broken vlub back on track. Essendon’s time will come, anything the next month is a bonus.
