Yeah, just a bit funny that so many Carlton fans are taking such a keen interest in Essendon's fortunes right now.

They thought they'd won the Grand Final against us about 4 months ago when they drifted up to 11th. Dancing in the aisles they were and were apparently on the cusp of a finals appearance.

How could such a poor Essendon outfit finish 3 wins and 20% above them?

Baffling. I'm sure there is some traffic somewhere they can go and play in.

Hooker and Hurley will be lucky to see out the year, you needed to draft talls 2-3 years ago to replace them as they would be ready now.

The draft currency to get the new crop of talls was from losing Daniher, Saad and other experienced players but you have not made enough moves to replace them. The rebuild has started in earnest across the park and Dodo is rolling out tall kids who are up to 4 years away from contributing regularly as some cure all for the shitstorm that is coming.

If you lose Merrett next year to FA, your midfield becomes even more pedestrian and coupled with the reduced run out of the backline, the club will struggle. Fans are being told to expect good things, buggered if anyone can see where they are coming from.

Better hope that Rutten is some kind of wonder coach that was being stifled by Worsfold otherwise it could be another 10 years before you see finals action again.

Carlton are a rabble of a club and most likely whilst we are playing next Sunday they will be requesting the knives in Teague's back be returned to the club so that they can sharpen them for the next victim.

Brilliant effort for your club to be playing finals this season, did not see that coming. The game changes made by SHocking have come at the right time for the players you have drafted and the slingshot style you were already working on.

Kudos to the coach who has started playing blokes in the right spot for them, breakout years for Parish, 2mtr Peter etc. and Stringer finally showing some consistency has thrown you 5 years ahead in a season where plenty of teams have stagnated.

Finals are a different beast, will watch with interest to see if the 6,000+ day streak comes to an end or not.

Do you think it will happen? Ross Lyon still has plenty to offer if that's the path the Blues choose.

As long as it is someone with
1. Selection integrity
2. Works to use players strengths, not expose their weaknesses
3. Rewards team first approach rather than selfishness

Can live with what happens after that. If it is Lyon, hope he has learned that an effective forward line is as important as an effective defence. There is more than one way to win a game of footy.

I was not bullish coming into this year. It’s been a lot of fun to watch irrespective of what happens next week. This is the most mentally there group I’ve seen from EFC since the early 2000s (aside from a brief us against the world during all the ASADA/WADA stuff). I haven’t been used to watching a team that play with heart and for each other and it’s refreshing.

So the narrative goes from you suck to the win a final thing which in the unlikely event we do will pivot to the top 6 get a hard draw, haven’t done a proper rebuild for sustained performance etc.

None of us thought we’d be here, it’s been fun and I’m looking forward to whatever else is to come.

i'm not putting a lot of stock into next weeks game.
Dogs have historically beaten up on us and need a response. Elim final is potentially just the thing.
Whatever the result, chalk it up as experience for this group.

Finish the year with the shortest injury list I can remember having in over a decade. First time in years where there is genuine AFL talent not getting a game due to reasonable depth (Hooker, Cox, Caldwell, Tippa and Ham are all guys I’d love to see in the side but 25.

They are cooked...similar list situation to hawks.. no mans land...long way back...at least we won a few flags over the last decade...

Along with us, north, Adelaide and Gold Coast..they have 0% chance of playing finals this season.
