Way to completely miss the point of this thread.

Rutten seems like a good coach, putting Parish in the midfield has been an excellent move and he has gotten everyone on board and buying in.

Stringer had his best season since ‘15 and he convinced Merrett to commit.

Still some big holes in their list though so it would be a big mistake to think they are on the cusp of a flag. Still should embrace the ‘refresh’ mentality.

Is their any proof Zach Reid is any good?

Bombres fans love playing the ‘Saad card’ yet the pick they got in return for him has played a grand total of 2 games.

Meanwhile Saad has had a great first season including a best on ground performance against his previous club.

I’m backing Carroll to play more senior footy than Reid next year too just quietly.

Well he is highly rated internally was rushed into the side after 1 VFL game then got injured then got injured again. Most expect him to slot into our back 6 next year.

Saad wasn’t best on against us why are you making stuff up. Thought he was very good though but wouldn’t have been in the top 5 on the ground for mine.

Fair enough if Carroll is any good he has very little competition for spots in Carlton’s midfield so it’s not a bad bet.

I don't think this is a false dawn like previous years, I think essendon are heading in the right direction. Today was a game of a team that spent most the year in the top 4 and fell out in the last minute vs a team who fell into the top eight. I don't mean any disrespect by that, the bombers had a great second half of the season but all the other teams around them fell over. Bombers will be around the mark this time next year.
after many of these, this one feels different

I think combination of Brasher as president, Mahony doing the football stuff & Truck seeming to be fairly methodical, i don't see the club cutting corners.

This Essendon side looks ******* awesome for the next decade

Reminds me of Bomber supporters at the end of 2017, and at the end of 2019.

Really need to win a final before making those kinds of proclamations. The Bombers look decent but not amazing to my eyes.

Still holes all over the field currently.

Comparing us to 2017 is as silly as us comparing you to 2018.

Really need to win a final before

You won a final in 2011. What happened in 2012?

You won a final in 2013. What happened since?

Winning finals matters when you're good enough to go all the way, consistently. That's what we're building.

It's not about winning numerous spoons.

Oh yeah?

You're welcome to read my many works on Carlton.

Right now, here's what I see:

- Something approaching the best midfield in the game. Had the 'calls' gone right, we'd have three midfielders in the AA side.
- Draper. Unless your eyes aren't attached, this is the best young ruck in the game. I'm not calling AA (Darcy deserved that so hard), but the quality is indisputable.
- Ridley
- Jones
- Bryan
- Langford
- Hind
- ...
- ...

I could keep doing this but there's really no point.

I'm a happy Essendon fan, and I should be - the list looks great.

I had Saad as our best against Essendon, capped it off with the sealing goal.

Keen to see how the Brownlow votes go for that game.

Yes Carroll will get plenty of opportunity, that’s the point. If he plays well he should feature in most games, and really deserved games in the back half of the year.

Currently though Saad is the only player to come from that trade turning the dial, and given his good contribution this year a little disingenuous to say you ‘swindled’ the Blues on what was effectively Pick 12. We certainly overpayed, but that was based on his contract status and not his output as a player which continued this year.

Of course if Reid turns out to be a bust it’s a moot point.

Not having Saad's diva antics mess up our culture and gameplan moving forward was worth it on it's own - Reid and his prospects as a KPD was just the icing on the cake.

Its a swindling imo. Where’s the history of any other team giving up that much for a running HBFer?

Hibberd and Saad (the first time) traded for a pick in the 20s and Tuohy traded for what worked out to be a 5 pick upgrade.

I have no idea how the market got set anywhere near a top 10 pick for an out of contract HBFer.

Does GWS getting poor value out of the two firsts traded for Shiel mean it wasn’t a bad trade for Essendon? I don’t think your logic holds up.

You mean freekickman

You're not winning the flag this year.

You have to be in it to win it, which Essendon aren't.

Essendon are a disappointment, but don't take it out on us. Even Essendon royalty in Daniher couldn't wait to leave that rabble. Seems almost every year something negative happens with that club.

Essendon’s midfield is nowhere near the best.

The Bulldogs, Giants, Demons light years ahead, and this is the one area of the ground that is actually reasonably good for the Bombers. Also so many suspect kicks in that group. Shiel’s kicking is basically a meme these days, but Parish, McGrath, Caldwell are poor kicks of the footy.

Draper is a gun, no doubt.

The rest reads as the usual claptrap from a Bomber’s supporter post finals exit. ‘Tough end of the season, but see how good we are when PLAYER X gets 50 games. Wow did you see FRINGE PLAYER emerge?’

Every set of supporter banks on incremental improvement from young players and anticipates development. It’d be a depressing time otherwise, but there are a hell of a lot of moving parts in footy, and the Bombers scraped into the finals on 11 wins. The general trend, based on the past 5 years is the Bombers missing the finals in 2022.

I actually had to rack my brains to think of who the AA selectors missed out on, in your opinion.

Stringer?

Hilarious.

Yep so negative that Merrett,Parish,Stringer etc all re-signed

As for Daniher he’s a flog I’m glad he’s gone rather Harrsion Jones at least the bloke can kick straight for goal and compete with second and 3rd efforts and not look for a free all time like Joe

This thread was titled Essendon 2021. Not Essendon 2022. We overachieved, and you were shit. There's no need to be this mad about it. Relax.

I would argue GWS missing on their selections traded for Shiel does compromise the trade.

Is it relevant what value was set if we are getting a return on investment for that player, while the capital for the Bombers is largely confined to the VFL.

I see as little logic in what you’re accounting. Concrete performance is still more informative than theoretical performance.

And good enough, which you're not.

Neither of us were gonna make a difference in the end. And you know it deep down.

Like 2016, when we were given no hope? Competition is very even this year.

Parish has played like 15 good games in 5 years and has shown he can't handle a tag.
Stringer plays one good game every 5 weeks.

Daniher was your marque player.

At least my club played finals this year what have Carlton achieved?

How many coaches is that now that Carlton have hired/sacked in a space of 10 years 8?

How about you worry about your own club

I've done so many of these - break up the quote, rip the post apart etc.

Right now I'm just ****ing thrilled.

Essendon clearly has one of the best midfields in the game. I mean, it's not a debatable thing - they just do. Two of them made AA this year, the third (Stringer) is by CD measure the best player in the game (maybe second).

Draper is CLEARLY a monster. I'm not even sure what trade currency looks like for him - any football fan would be moist for him. If for example, Carlton convinced him to come, there's almost no price they wouldn't pay. De Koning? Don't be ridiculous, they'd give him up in a second and then some.

What part of that is banking on increment? That's what Carlton does. That's what you as a fan aren't getting.

Your post is trying to troll - but Essendon looks fan-****ing-tastic; at all levels. Why would we be upset?
