Hearing from an extremely reliable source that two restricted free agents at Essendon, which they cannot afford to lose, will both depart at end of season 2023.

One back home to SA, and the other to a very fierce rival in Victoria.

Big money for both players who are both keen to leave.
Parish is a player Essendon can afford to lose with Tsatas arriving.

Redman loves the club and won’t be going anywhere. One of the ‘frustrated with poor standards’ during the Truck reign, is delighted with new direction with Scott arrival. Reasonable chance to be next captain. Parish is the one at risk of leaving if they have another year in the wilderness due to family etc.

I expect a big improvement in Parish's two way running next year. And I'll be very surprised if there isn't.

Adelaide and Collingwood, from what I've seen/heard. Would not surprise, but don't think either side needs either of them, tbh. Redman maybe, but Parish would be better off staying put or going somewhere like Hawthorn where he'll get paid insane money given the space in their cap. Won't be coming to us, can near guarantee that. No place for him even with Sel gone.

with the acquisitions of Bruhn and now Clark, I don't see the fit of Parish to the Cats happening anymore.

We will need talls more than mids i reckon having said that with retirements we will have the cap space for parish.

Redman is exploring a move back to SA, i can assure you of that.

Parish - can afford to lose. in fact, probably mutually beneficial. top 5 pick as we rebuild.
Redman - wouldn't say can't afford to lose - he's a HBF'er. if anyone knows how to find these guys....But it would be a shame. He's a gun.

Expect a bit of turnover at the Dons next year
Scott will know what he needs and who he doesn't by years end.

Ridley - Hayes - D'Ambrosio
McGrath - Reid - Cox
still got depth to fill that backline out.

picks 3 thru 5...handy :p

Essendon wont finish bottom 3 surely?

Would be an absolute disaster if they did with their list profile.

Maybe we finish above Adelaide for bottom 4, but we didn't this year. And we had a run of upset wins.

New coach, with a new team.
complete rebuild of the off-field stuff

And the team is in transition.
We could feasibly finish between 12th and 18th

If you finish bottom 3 i could see more than Parish and Redman moving on.

Shiel and Hind will almost certainly be moved on as well

We have the third or fourth youngest list in the AFL and the third least experienced list in the AFL. It would be far from a "disaster" with our list profile

Pies is a good fit for Pies.
Would step into the role Sidey plays and give them some good forward drive.

Offer for him would need to be band 1 otherwise we'd match
Another team that would have a look would be the Dees.

im dubious on Redman, but won't rule it out completely. As others have said, he's probably into the leadership group and a VC fairly soon.

Shiel is on good dollars and we can afford that. If Parish goes, I think he stays and sees this group come through. Stringer the same.
Hind....meh. if he's not in our 22 by years end, it means he's not defending. And he's not a forward. So how many suitors is he going to have.
With McGrath going back, Kelly being a solid defender and D'Ambrosio looking a good little prospect - may find he's on the outer anyway.

Suspect Bryan will attract interest
If Merrett is passed over for captain (to McGrath/Redman), he may ask to go. Wouldn't begrudge. Stepped into a shitshow in 2014 and nothing has changed in 8 years.

Wright, Redman, Hobbs, Jones, D'Ambrosio - these are our key re-signings for the year.

Can easily see essendon being bottom 2 next year with Hawthorn last.

With that being said attracting pick 3 for Parish will mean they pack his bags for him. Not sure what they would get for Redman, which i have heard the Adelaide rumours about

Parish meh don't want to lose Reddog but two band 1 compos will be nice after another bottom 4 finish.

I don't think any club will ever be awarded two band 1 compo picks in one FA period.

I'm not really sure why we'd make that move at this point in our rebuild. We've drafted heavily for midfield depth the past 2 years and developed within on a few others.

Parish isn't the type of mid we need anyway. Finn Callaghan is more the type we'd be trying to acquire from an opposition club.
Erase this notion from your mind.

It's entirely possible for a club to be given two band one compensation picks. The reason it hasn't happened yet, and was going to end of 2020 when both Jeremy Cameron and Zac Williams, is because losing two means there's $1.9 million of salary cap space available to match a deal - assuming the target club picks are available for a trade and the compensation pick isn't as good.

If the Bombers are bottom four and end up with pick #3, #4 and #5 with over a million in cap space available... every other club should be worried someone will be poached.

Almost all the big player movements have been preceded by a previous player being drawn out.

That assumes players want to go there. As we have seen most players leaving (particularly free agents but across the board) dont want to go to bottom 4 clubs unless they are offered significant overs. If essendon finish bottom 4 no decent player is asking for a trade there unless they are offered close to a mil a year over a long term.

Fortunately in this exact example that's the sort of money Essendon will have to attract a player, which is why I mentioned it.

We probably have that money available anyway. Guys like Langford, Merrett, Laverde, Ridley are probably on decent coin for this year and next.

I'd expect Redman to re-sign for 5 years on a hefty contract that's front loaded too.

There were rumours about that the Bombers had near $3,000,000 of salary cap space available for 2023 to sign someone during the free agency and trade period just gone - so I suspect you're right. That cap space should see a wave of "extensions" moving big signing bonuses into 2023 to add on extra years later.

It would be an interesting list management maneuver to lose a couple of free agents in 2023, add in three top ten draftees and then top up with free agents end of the following season.
