Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Laverde, Kelly, Zerk, Heppell arent damaging by foot. A few of them can kick little 20m passes sideways or down the line wide otherwise its 50m down the line

Id happily pay 600k for Mckay as a need, still would be moving on a defender which we have too much alike and no one like Mckay
If Heppell retires, do we also need to move on another defender in your opinion? If so, which one and why?

I more meant they couldn't afford to recontract them, sorry I wasn't very specific. I seem to be prone to either extreme brevity or extreme verbosity lately...
If Sydney had stuffed up their salary cap that badly it would explain it, but traditionally Sydney have let a lot of players go very cheaply. It's bizarre.

I want McKay.
But dont want North to get a first round compo pick.
End of first round or second round would be ok as that doesn't push our first round back.
so offer 550k x 4 years for mcKay

North would have to offer us something if we paid up to make sure they got pick 3

Basically buying a draft pick

You’re not the first to have suggested that and the answer is the same. It’s not allowed.
It can be done though, just extremely unlikely. Need the right player in a seperate trade

Maybe a Zac Reid or Zerk but tbh there is a benefit to North just accepting the deal for us if they get band 1. Means they likely dont match and we dont have to consider trading out pick around 10 for him

McKay isn’t getting band 1 compo.

Will be a very interesting trade period for us I think.

Scott came in too late last year to be apart of the trade period but you would think after the year of coaching he will be making some cuts.

Going to be some players leave that upset fans I reckon.

outside Zachy and Langford (and Tippa, but i'm happy i got to see him again should he retire), im really not married to anyone

Can't eat your cake and have it too. If it's success we want, and the current crop can't deliver, you have to accept one or the other.
Hoping Scott, Mahoney and Vozzo have the alignment to throw some weight around and ruffle some rusted on feathers

Why would we do that?

If North match, McKay is worth our second rounder. Band 3 is a higher second rounder. So, why would they match?
As I said, Edmund suggested it on SEN. There's a link above if you wanted to know more about it. His comments were as follows:
This is where it gets more interesting though, is what the compensation will spit out for a North Melbourne side who are going to formally apply for special assistance. Then we’re going to get something up the pointy end, potentially.

Look at Joe Daniher’s move to Brisbane, that had hair all over it when his contract was renegotiated. What compensation did that spit out? Top tier.

Those numbers are around what we have offered him. You need to overpay, just a little, so we get Band 1 compo. Otherwise we will be forced to match and ask for your first round pick. Nobody wants that. Let's be friends.

Which we wouldn't give. It would be a second and change.

drafted at #21 and while shown he is an AFL standard KPD hasn't shown significant durability.

ignoring the AFL bullshit secret sauce i reckon in an open market this is about the right value

Adelaide tried to do that with St Kilda and the league blocked the trade.

Tom Lynch FA to Richmond. A side deal was agreed that sent two mature players to Gold Coast for peanuts, in exchange for Gold Coast agreeing not to match.

Not that we're likely to do anything like that, but there are ways.

I'd rather a trade tbh.
For one, our list spots are gonna be tight. If we're hellbent on adding McKay, i'd happily trade our 2nd for him v. adding another pick ahead of our 1st

So offer the Band 2/3 contract. If North match, offer 2nd at most.
I'd prefer Baldwin played at FB for the next month in prep for next year anyway.

And i'd put an offer to GCS for Davies & their 1st this year. Not sure what that costs, but if they have pick 5 the gamble of an F1 feels worth it (next year's pick is unlikely lower than that).
Duursma and Watson would sort the lack of potency in forward line out quite nicely.

Agree with the not wanting to push our own 1st round pick back, but at the end of the day the number on the pick doesn't matter as much as what players are available there. You might get the same player with pick 6 as pick 12 depending on how the cookie crumbles.

The other side of it is that if they don't get Band 1, the AFL probably adds it to their assistance package. So they get the pick either way, it's just whether we give up another pick in the process.

Essendons pick in 2023 will be around the perfect spot to dradt a KPP. They are also not in some magical premiership window either so why they want to shit the bed to bring a mature one in is odd to me too. Need to show some more patience

If they got a ton of cash they need to spend they need someone younger really. Sam Flanders would be my target if I was them as well as a guy like Liam Henry
