Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

He didn't just re-sign Heppell when he was talking about leaders and call it a day.

He was saying we need MORE leaders, including the ones we already have.

Reading between the lines the ones we have aren't good enough and need more help.

You gotta listen to the whole thing, not just a soundbite here and there (or worse, a half-arsed quote on foxfooty).

I watched the whole thing yesterday actually.

I think needing “leaders” is overrated to be honest. Power vacuums tend to work themselves out. People grow into leadership roles when given the right combination of responsibilities and support.

Essendon don’t need leaders, they need standard setters and you can’t set a standard you can’t keep.

It's not a power vacuum, it's a leadership vacuum.

Which comes back to the other point he made: "they don't know what they don't know."

As was said on our board, we have inherited our knowledge of what success looks like from a generation of footballers who never achieved it, who themselves learned it from another generation who never achieved success.

They think they're working hard, they think they're living an AFL lifestyle and doing all the right things. No one at the club knows what they don't know about what they need to be doing.

There's no benchmark to compare themselves against because the club has been too damned insular for too long.

It took until late last year for the club to bring in outsiders to properly review the club & football department. They now need to do the same with the list and the playing group.

Trades I would hope we are in on;

Gold Coast first round pick
Brisbane first round pick 2024
Nick Haynes (buy cap and pick)
Lachie Whitfield (see above)

Any other guys who can free up space for them, we should be right up in on it.

We have ample space, even with a contracted player delisted.

Let Parish go for for Band 1 compensation, allows us an opportunity to re balance the list.
Cal Twomey claims that gws will be attaching no first rnd pick to the Haynes salary dump

Reckon we will be bringing in a few older guys.

Don't want him but would not be surprised to see Sam Menegola as an example.

That’s disappointing. I wonder if we could do Haynes + 6 for our current first then. If we lose Parish and gain compensation there it could be a win - win both ways.

If I were Dodo, I would actually use our cap space essentially as a draft pick

I think that is the first of a few dominoes to fall.

Now we can chase McKay outright as a free agent. Also might signal some re-signings.

Agreed, this is the way Adrian has wanted to play it.
Keep the home grown boy and land the big FA.
Sugar hit should please the lineament sniffer’s and Kool Aid sippers.
The “King” of trade week ain’t going anywhere just yet …

We actaully have a need for Mckay we are farked for defenders and he's best avaible.

We aint chasing him for sugar hit or so Dodro can be "king of trade week"

sometimes i wonder if the dodoro kool aid drinkers are the carlton BF posters

Barham was right, unhealthy obsessions

Parish signing removes biggest question mark on strategy now.

Yet to sign;
Bryan - SIGNED (also, forgot about Jones. Also Signed)
Baldwin - eq. with Bryan as a priority. Showed a lot as a key defender and just coming on. 3 year deal.
Massimo - Great kick but not in the AFL side. May have to wait
Zerk - SA bound (port likely)

FA targets linked;
McKay - Zerk replacement at FB
Jordon - Heppell upgrade/Setterfield depth
Gresham - Snelling/Guelfi upgrade (more HF than mid)

Trade targets mentioned
Thomas - Will be pricey, risky but brings talent we don't have. Maybe you roll the dice and hope Scott and co have a better environment in place for him.
Harmes - Another in the snelling/guelfi upgrade basket. Im a fan too
Billings - not linked but we've looked at in the past. see Gresham/Harmes

Needs (outside of instilling a truckload of fitness and competitiveness across the board);
FB - We have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd tall defenders coming through. too small/underdeveloped at FB
Running Defender - Hind ok, really need an upgrade here to compliment Redman and stop McGrath from doing it (by the way, anyone want McGrath?). Josh Sinn was of interest in his draft year. Perhaps part of a Zerk deal?
CHF - biggest need imo. Langford performed sensationally this year, but we need a taller, contested mark. Zero idea who we'd get.
Big mid - Setterfield was a god-send but his injury upset a lot of our structure. Particularly with Draper out or drinking his own bathwater. Dev Robertson would be perfect but WA bound. Hollands perhaps? Jordon not a bad option either.

Picks
-8 is edge of the elite crop and possibly falls just outside if Sanders is charity'd to North. I've long wanted Reid, i'd bid on Croft and barring that i'd probably look to split and spray some picks on contested, hard running athletic types and take a break from "showy" types.
-26 should come in a bit and there's a few good options at this range (Stevens, Freijah i particularly like)
Eyre and Taha from nga post 40 if available.

if we split 8 and walk away with 3 of Reid, Tholstrup, Stevens, Hardeman, Lual, Freijah and Morris, i'd be pretty content.

What's up with those Archie Perkins rumours ? Does that have legs or just unfounded pub talk ? I don't know why Essendon would willingly trade him tbh. Got a lot of talent that lad.

It would be him asking to leave.

Rumour came from one source here on bigfooty. A Footscray poster posting it on the Geelong page.

Until Cal Twomey runs with it I doubt it is true. If Cal runs with it I assume Perkins has asked to be moved.

What's the go with Zach Reid? He should be ready by now.

Would've thought between Reid, BZT, Ridley, Hayes, Laverde and even Cox there is plenty of talent to cover the three talls down back. They will need time but Essendon isn't ready yet so should not be a massive concern.

McKay is a good get on reasonable $, instantly best 22 but seems like a lot of resources put into tall defenders.

A bucket load of injuries, and is only 21 too.

Reid is constantly injured
Zerk is better as a second tall, struggles against the big boys
Ridley, Laverde and Cox aren't really key defenders
Hayes is 18 and whilst he was solid in the VFL he's not close yet.
