Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

I would move Merrett and Ridley on as they want out but would hope to bring in either young (under 26) talent for them or future draft capital as we already have a bevy of picks in this draft.

Whether we trade them for that or trade whatever draft capital we get from them is up to Rosa.

Mason redman, please explain offering yourself to three other clubs and then calling out zach merrett!

Boy oh boy, wow wee. This movie just keeps on giving!

This one is a strange one as it does not actually sound like Redman knew that happened.

Sounds like he told his manager he might be frustrated and then his manager went to clubs to probe interest and there was none.

My question is who leaked this info?

Would not be Mason or his agent.
Would not be Essendon.

Is not good in any way but just seems odd.

It is interesting, articles I've read is that he was frustrated with the club and 3 clubs were reached out to.

Surely a manager wouldn't reach out to clubs without the players consent, right?

Either way, its abit awkward now for redman after his statements on merrett.

I dont understand how this leaked now or reasoning behind, but very awkward.

No Darcy Parish news====== yet?

I think we run the gauntlet because those two seconds are right on the edge of needing to use should a bid comes. If they come after, little points would be required to match
I would agree if the draft wasn't a weak 1. Sweid is currently listed at 25 currently On the cusp of where the first round may end. I think it would be better Dons trade up or trade them for some players.

I think Dons need to just trade away Merrett & Ridley for overs of course and go hard in replacing them while going in the draft with 4 first round picks in the draft + grabbing their 2 NGA's.

Has said he wants to stay at the club. Likely because it’s his best bet as other good teams aren’t interested and changing clubs to go to a poor side when you’d be getting big minutes at your current club makes no sense

Since 2001

It likely leaked out from one of the clubs/list managers that Redman talked too telling someone it was hypocritical.

If he likes Melbourne those 3 clubs were likely pies cats and hawks maybe Saints or Blues. Seems like a neuclear PR war between hawthorn and Essendon with the gloves well and truely off

So what’s our best case scenario for a draft hand if everyone whose name has been kicked around actually leaves..?
Ignoring future picks also required and any trades up, it’s probably picks #5, #6, #7, #10, #19, #27 and #31. Maybe add Hawthorn’s (current) #26.

Those figures assume Allan, Draper and TDK get Band 1, Silvagni and Worpel get band 2, and that Merrett and Ridley leave.

Finally going the full rebuild option.

Merret situation is messy and he will go for unders but hopefully it galvanises the younger core and drives them forward. Rosa as a list manager seems competent which is all we need for awhile after the Dodo.

Caddy, Roberts, Lual, Visintini, Kako, Clarke, Johnson and Unwin all look like AFL talent of varying tiers.

If we can add another 3-4 from this upcoming draft it will give us an actual core of decent players of the same age for the first time since Sheedy was in charge.
I’m not so sure. I think EFC will force Ridley to stay. And if I was rebuilding Langford, Parish and Wright would probably be on the trade table. Maybe McKay as well.

And talking history, I think you’re forgetting the core of Ryder, Dempsey, Hocking, Houli, Davey, Pears, Hooker, Belly, Myers, Hurley and Zaharakis we had for 2005-2008 drafts. That’s with Gumby being a miss due to injuries.

Surely a manager wouldn't reach out to clubs without the players consent, right?
Fantasia fired his manager in 2019 because he approached Port Adelaide without telling him. Of course, in hindsight it would have been much better for Fantasia and Essendon if he’d left at the end of 2019!

Even if that’s how we get pick 6 for Draper?

Would do Draper for Hipwood + 6 every day of the week.

Can just renegotiate his deal for same money less years with our cap space. Can’t use it anyway
Nope.

Hearing Eric Hipwoods name has been raised by Essendon. This was a couple of weeks ago. Makes even more sense now after last night.
Not for Essendon it doesn't!

If Hipwood isn't seen as a benefit to Essendon but a cost, and one we get compensation for taking on, then that's a different story.

Although I'd note that with our current delistings & Draper, we have two list spots open. There are another four uncontracted players (Setterfield, Hobbs, Smart and Lual) which would make six list spots, and we currently (including Draper compo whatever it is) have 5 draft picks and two NGA players. So, list spots are very tight, very valuable, and will surely factor into our willingness or desire to take any players on.

Is on too much cash to offer any interest from other clubs, with Zach gone the midfield becomes his own if he can stay fit could have a huge year.
I think even if he wants out, for both him and us Parish staying for 2026 makes sense. He'd currently get bad offers, as would we. He and us would be hoping the new fitness team can get him on the park for 2026, and increases his value significantly. If he can have an injury free year then his value goes up, he can see how the team is going, and review his decision then.
