Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

I think worpel is a better fit defensively to go with the dash brothers. Not sure parish works in that structure. You should see if Collingwood get desperate and chase him.
Id rather keep him then getva 40s pick tbh
Don’t think he is defensively-minded enough to fit with Smith and Holmes.
Likely one is always on the bench if they did play together, but unless parish is flying he would just be depth

Also Baz and Holmes defend pretty well for mids

I agree you are better off keeping him than a 40s pick in this draft but with the year hes had i doubt teams would trade more than that for him.

At that point better off asking for a player swap. All teams have their own “list problem” players and doing a problem for problem swap is likely to net you better value then a player for a late pick in a shallow draft.

Edit: Parish for Liam Ryan feels somewhat fair value. So the question just becomes who’s the 3rd team who’d want parish and have a player of similar value

Retire: Goldy and Cox

Delist: Shiel, Menzie, Davey Jr, Smart

Leave via gree agency: Draper

Trade: Gresham, Hobbs and Parish

*Use all three first rounders which are currently 5 and 6 after Oscar compo and Drapers which will be 6 or 19)
*Trade and then use the two second rounders to match Sweid and El Acher and gain currency into next year's draft.
*Check out the Pre season free agents for the final list spot to fill a hole or start the season with a free spot we can use in the mid season draft.

Top 4 teams should be unable to lure free agents

That doesn't really work though, the system, as flawed as it is, still rewards the team on the bottom highest with the most generous picks available for a Bans 1 contract. Draft picks are so highly rated vs proven performers that we don't see a lot of trading for ready made players using compensation picks. Eagles could easily offer the Allen compo pick and get a ready made high quality midfielder but will they do that? Probably not.

Are Bombers fans talking about the same Menzie?

As in the guy who’s bobbed up and kicked a few goals in recent games?
He's a below average small forward who's a bit too slow to be effective at AFL level. Good VFL player though.

I know they had a horrible injury run but is it reasonable to conclude as a club they've deteriorated again this year?

No.

You genuinely can't take anything away from this year. Not saying we're better, not saying we're worse. Just genuinely impossible to make any confident conclusions from this.

No. We have the 4th youngest list in the AFL, and likely to get even younger given Goldy is likely to retire, Shiel is likely to leave, as is Laverde and most of our targets trade wise are in the 20-24 age bracket.

I don't think Shiel gets cut. I think he probably gets a cheap trade somewhere for points but not delisted.

Fair enough

Makes next year bit of a watershed

I'm not sure it does (sorry, not to just automatically disagree with everything you're saying).

But we're a long way off it. The senior core, whatever there is of it at least, ain't it. The young guys look - okay? Not many potential superstars in there, but a decent quantity of potential 150-200 gamers (Clarke, Roberts, maybe Johnson, maybe May). Caddy and Kako would be the only ones who at this stage have shown the potential to get to that next level. And most teams in the comp could name a group of youngsters as good or better than that lot that they are 'hopeful' for.

But these are genuine kids we're talking about. The genuine next era of us being even remotely relevant is probably when Caddy and Kako are about 23-24. The Caldwell, Durham, Nic Martin group would be late 20s. You hope you get 4-5 steady-good-very good players out of our current 18-20yr olds that we've blooded. Few recruits. And then we desperately need to nail about 2-3 drafts in a row. If we don't, it could remain very dark for a long time yet.

I'm very confident the coaching staff basically acknowledged this, that there simply isn't enough talent and skill on the list, and that we genuinely need to turn over most of it. Letting Stringer go this time last year was step one of that move. But we're still about a 12-13th type of list that the brutal injuries just made look even worse this year.

Potentially but I doubt we get a third rounder for him.

Maybe if we attach a fourth rounder to him but they are not worth anything anymore.
When you consider that there are 4 blokes definitely bid on before HEA and Sweid even a pick in the early to mid 60's will come on enough to garner some sort of points value.

A side will give you a 3rd for Shiel, someone will you are talking a pick 50 plus in a weak draft here, it's stuff all. A side contending may go for him for at worst cheap backup.

I’d say that’s a completely unreasonable take. They were a super young side and got a look at a lot of young players many of whom showed something.

highlights being Kako, Clarke, Johnson, may and Nguyen.

They are finally building depth and a competitive team culture. It’s baby steps but it’s at least acknowledging the problem

The injuries have been ****ed.

From what I would pick as our best 23 if all were fit we are missing 11 and then some of those can't be replaced with the next in line because they are also injured.

Using the AFL team sheet from last round and replacing the names with ??? This is Hawthorns team and remember that at least three of those ??? Need to be replaced by their third string option.

FB: J Battle ??? ???
CHB: J Impey ??? C Jiath
C: K Amon J Worpel D Moore
HF: ??? ??? N Watson
FF: J Gunston ??? J Ginnivan
R: ??? ??? J Ward
Int: ??? ??? ??? C Dear
Sub: L Bruest

Still a lot better than us (because even without injury we were a 10th-13th team) but it ain't winning shit.

Another development year coming up, I hope they have a good recruitment team probably not the draft they want to load up on, clearing the decks wouldnt be the worst idea and puts them in a strong position when tassie enters to go free agents.

So what’s our best case scenario for a draft hand if everyone whose name has been kicked around actually leaves..?
5, 6, 7, 10, 19, 26, 29? It's like a lottery ticket.
