Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

When I think the team in the worst position right now I do think its Essendon out of anyone. The list feels reliant on some very injury prone players, it has a ton of the same player type and then outside of that has massive gaping holes were it basically has 0 players capable in that spot. The current list to me needs multiple small defenders, multiple small forwards and then key replacements of finished players but they dont have the arsenal to do it.

I think they gotta get CDT myself. Wright is toast but they desperately need that style of 2nd ruck + forward in the side. Use 5 and 6 to get to pick 2 and Hawks 1st from the Eagles and back yourself to get one of the sliding mids with that Hawks pick after taking CDT with pick 2 . Trade wise I think they need 1 of Starcevich or McVee but id be targetting McVee as the younger player. They need to find a small forward because Kako is better as a guy getting some midfield run. No idea who. In the 2nd round they should be after slow burn pacey players who have alot of upside but are raw.

Its a long road for them

What would it take to get picks 1 and 2?

5, 6 a 3rd good first via points trade and ???

I'd let goldy retire and let Wright play main ruck 60/40 with a backup.
Keep Bryan, Setterfield, Prior, Lual, McMahon, Smartt, Blakiston.
If Hobbs wants to be traded let him go. Look for trades of Perkins & Tsatas if possible.
Delist the rest. Maybe a last chance saloon for Davey as a rookie.
Trade the 2nds to a team like swans for another first round pick.
Trade in 2 KPPs a ruck and a fringe mid. Zac Taylor from crows. Ruck probably Reeves. KPPs probably Gibcus & Riccardi.
Draft with 5,6,10 & whatever is gotten from Draper, Laverde, Hobbs etc.
Wouldn’t go with Wright as main ruck, he’s a confidence player and rucking all the time would make him relatively useless. The other ? is retaining Smartt. But agree with the rest of your list assessment.

48 into 41 is going to be interesting (41 being the maximum number of listed players before you draft three).

Goldy probably retires and becomes our part-time ruck coach.
Shiel will go, reportedly has agreed to part ways with the club.
Laverde probably goes, would’ve gone last year but he was contracted and wanted to stay, now we probably need him more than we did then but he should get better offers elsewhere (and list numbers and the need to overhaul means I don’t think we’re particularly stressed if he does go).
Draper might go (looks more likely by the day but we did just up our offer to 5 years so his decision is harder than it was a day or two ago).
Parish I’d be happy to see the back of but he’s contracted and I don’t think anyone will want to take on his salary. Not sure if we’re at the point of paying someone to take him.
Tsatas only stays if no one will take him (he’s contracted).
Hobbs probably goes.
Setterfield I’d like to hang on to but idk if they will (list numbers, injuries, out of contract).
Menzie should be gone too.

Bryan, Visentini and Nguyen have re-signed in the last couple of days.

Last year it was said Laverde wouldn't be offered another contract. Things may have likely changed.
Parish probably does need to leave to free up cap. Cant retain him as depth on whatever his contract is.
The changes to the the ruck last year has meant Wright can ruck with his body and could stand up to many rucks. Seeing him chopping out as ruck I saw he's better suited now for it. I think he'll be fine. Ruck him 50/50 and rest forward to stretch defence. He'd make the opposition ruck accountable too and he wont have to take on the best defender every week. Just got to find someone that can ruck with him.

Maybe. I haven’t heard either way, but I don’t think we necessarily need to have KPD contingency players that deep in the list in a normal year.

Not worried about the cap re: Parish, we have plenty of cap space and when the CBA goes up we have trouble with the floor, not the ceiling (no ratchet clauses at Essendon).

But he’s a senior player that is unhappy with how the club has managed his injuries, he plays in a role we can cover, and he’s not a particular leader or someone we’re going to build around, so he’s surplus to requirements.

We’d probably pay most of his salary in exchange for a good draft pick (basically throw the player himself in for nothing).

Can isn’t the same as should though.

I'm thinking we would hold onto one of those picks but, if we did go down that path, I'd expect us to ask for your 2026 R1.

Youd think if he cares about success, then a successful club

Doesnt come across as the type of player to move states though

I know a journo has had him linked to geelong

Dogs, pies and hawks would be the only other sides imo and all need depth in their midfield.

Hawks still got Ward Nash and Worpel heavy in mid rotation

Libba at the dogs i think is 34 or 35 next year, Treloar also basically done/1 more year. Parish atleast doesnt have that many miles

Could keep pies in the window a bit longer when Steele, Pendles, Crisp, Titch ect finish in a year or two

Hes a very good moneyball play imo

Id rather keep him then get pick 55 for him. Hes just turned 28, if his body comes right, which a few do later in years as the body settles like Chapman, get another 4- 5 years of footy

Geelong wanted parish last time but its too late now with his injuries and age. Ship has sailed.

This is the first time in a long while I have actually liked what our list management is doing.

Drafting the last two years (no Dodo) has brought in competitive runners and ball users.

Long long way to go but I am hoping we clear a lot of dead wood this trade period.

Starcevich would be a good target. I also would be dangling some money in front of Windhager, Davies and Bond.

I think this is where it stands for us at the moment, one game still to play for us so the picks might move a little, also pre-trade period and we haven't announced any retirements or delistings yet, obviously.

You don't have Draper on the right hand side or a pick for him (would be pick 5 or 19 right)

Edit: also really hope we keep Prior over a rookie pick in this draft year.

Thats correct. Last 2 drafts been very good for you but boy did Dodoro leave a mess behind :(

I don't have any out of contract players on the right hand side, it's not a prediction just showing where our contracts are at right now

Prior would stay surely.
You would imagine Davey laverde Goldstein and laverde are goodbye. Setterfield is maybe unlucky but goes too.
Guys like Hobbs tsatas and perking probably need to ask for trades to good clubs where a different development team might help them.
I get the feeling you would be happy to offload parish's contract but i doubt anyone will pay much at his age-in hindsight should have let him go 2 years ago.

Probably 5, 6, F1 and a player or two. If you really want to get rid of his salary then Parish and another player, considering we've got a metric sh** load of cap.

We'd probably try to pay some of it for the same reason.

5, 6, 7, 2027 F1, Parish, for 1, 2, Ryan?

We’re good on the cap part as well.

what type of players would you be wanting? Ready to play vets or perhaps some prospects who may still have some potential

It would be vets, but I just struggle to see who we’d ask for out of the Bombers, there’s not really anyone that strikes me as being by of value that isn’t injury prone or off the table

Yeah, nah.

Seems going Worpel instead

But having his upside if he gets right for a pick in the 40s wouldnt be the worst play I feel.

Parish only turned 28 last month

I think worpel is a better fit defensively to go with the dash brothers. Not sure parish works in that structure. You should see if Collingwood get desperate and chase him.
