Honestly why do you Hawthorn supporters have to get involved in every Essendon thread ?

Stick with the Kangaroos if you want a rival.

We've got more important teams to worry about.

Being a Bolton fan, your president may debate that ;)

The Hawks have a link to Bolton through its chairman, Phil Gartside, a mad Hawthorn fan who spends plenty of time in Australia for business and gets to at least four matches a year.

"Ironically, their club and what they are trying to do and trying to grow into the Premier League and be a formidable force; it is not too dissimilar to Hawthorn and what we are trying to do over the last two or three years," Clarkson said.

He is a disgrace to the club. I'd rather Ackland back than this hack.
Ignorance.

Then why'd you say that he was an injury concern seeing it was his own fault for being unfit.
Yeah it was his own fault that his dad past away which caused him to mentally sway away from the game at times and also get injured, despite him still kicking 17 goals in 13 games he played.

He played 13 games.

Which is OVER half a season.

:)
:p

Why can't you just admit they're considerably better than the wooden spoon team you, and many others, took them for at the start of the year.

True, it's only round 4. But 3 wins and a very close lose is worth paying a little praise surely?

No doubt they've got off to a much better then I expected them to - although I did still pencil them in for 10 wins this season.

However talking about potentially going 7-1 is a tad premature after round 4...

you brought it up scoop.

u can not say that one umpire ruling can change a game u say that allowing dean solomans goal lost u the game well the was a blatant high tackle on adam mcphee (just outside offensive goal square) that even the commentators pointed out on half time that wasn't called that therefore could have cost essendon the game... its how the game rolls grow up and piss off back the hawks board

Wow that is a very soft draw ...almost Collingwoodesque..i would imagine the Dons will conceivably win all but one or two of those games ...but who knows.. these days any side can win on it's day .
Only 4 games in.... Last year Hawks had 3 wins so far - I think the Dons will lose to Brissy, Syd, Eagles and Port (Based on that fact that they are away)

Should still leave you in top 8 though

last 3 games would have erased that memory from most I'd say
Good to see you have let our win in 04 go. Now to just let go of 01.

but keep bringing it up if that's all you've got tonight.
I'm not a Hawthorn fan coming into an Essendon thread complaining about umpires in a match that happened 6 years ago.

You might want to check out the fixture, we play the weagles at home.

When you have a couple of very good targets up forward it makes a huge difference.

They midfield isn't playing at slow motion replay speed anymore with the young kids. I think a club with a mature midfield is going to inflict some hurt on those young skinny kids later in the year.

What skinny kids in the midfield would that be , Pev,Heff,Hird,Stanton,Watson,Winderlich,McVeigh and Dyson are all past the skinny kid stage. There is not much of Lovett but he is past the kid stage. Davey is skinny but he isnt going to get a lot bigger anyway given he is 22 and doesnt play in the midfield. Neither does Jetta , has played as a half forward.
Exactly who are the kids in our midfield that are going to be the problem ?

Good for you... I knew that and it doesnt change my opinion (slightly bias of course:D )
Truly I don't expect the Don's run lasting that long.... Plus they havent played any consistent inform team yet but its only my opinion - thats what the post was for :D

no, you're an Ess fan bringing up the past to milk a bite when you should be looking at more meaningful results....like 3-0;)

Sorry i meant the Port would win because its at AAMI - not all the games

I tipped Essendon all the games apart from today - i normally wouldve but i wasnt too impressed with them losing to the blues after leading by 38 or wateva the margin was.

Very impressive and will do alot of damage this year, its safe to say the dons are on their way back up :thumbsu:

They are not playing "in the middle" but they are running through the middle a fair bit which is generating that drive. It doesn't matter if they are playing wing or half back or half forward, they are still a fair few under-sized players.

I do not think you are given adequate acknowledgement as to how much the first and second year players are contributing to the current side and that is something that a more mature club could exploit this year.

Young kids just dont handle the niggling injuries as well as seasoned players, a young player will go from great to poor if they have to struggle with an injury. They may not put a lot more weight on over the years but they will definitely learn how to play with and manage the niggling type of things you pick up over playing a lot of footy all year.

Really? We have beaten Adelaide. Fremantle & St Kilda, all top sides, yes we stuffed up with the Blues, as we often do, think that's a pretty impressive win list.

Consistent/in-form - no

Dont get me wrong your boys are doing great for a team that came 15th and i would be happy with that, just dont start overstating their worth..

Adelaide - ravaged by serious injuries - Hardly any of their players brought anything to the table

Fremantle - Please these guys are the most inconsistent team in the AFL - their midfield barely runs, plus they already lost to Port (and gave up a healthy lead in a third quarter where they showed how easily they think the game is) and barely brought anything against us - Plus Fremantle play even worse at the Dome (where they rarely play) so I wasnt really surprised - In the last 5 years they have won only 2 games at the dome

St Kilda - Lyon was a truly horrendous coach and doesnt know wtf to do with that team, plus without some serious players they were already below you guys in my book - watch the Brisbane game

Actually i dont think you know enough about our players or have seen us play enough. Davey and Jetta are not running through the midfield.
Jetta hasnt actually done a lot. His name get raised often becasue he kicked a couple of goals in the first few games and it catchy but he hasnt really had much of an influence on games.
Davey has made a difference with his tackling and pressure but has played solely in the forward half. Given he is 22 i dont think he will suffer from the first year problems as much as the younger kids.
Now apart from these two in the side the improvement has come from Slattery (3rd year)starting to become an effective tager in the middle.
Winderlich (4th year) adding some pace and run.
Peverill playing the best footy of his career and improving how he uses the ball.
McVeigh also having a very good start to the year.
McPhee injury free and getting back to some form.
Ryder (2nd year) actually realising how good he can be. he is one bloke who may drop off but given his job is the third tall it isnt the biggest role.
Monfries (3rd year) being able to have a couple of runs in the middle.
Watson and Hird sharing the in and under role.
Lucas and Lloyd both being in form.
Lovett (3rd year) getting more involved from the wing.
The other plus is the work we have done off season as far as focusing completly on football skills rather than any other bootcamp, surfing etc activities. The fact the club has lifted their fitness level above anything they have had before also helps.
People have been going on about how the young kids have helped but apart from Davey having a big impact it has been the improvement of our 3rd and 4th year guys that has helped along with the good form of a few vetrans. And just to let you know there are two or three kids running around with Bendigo who are also going pretty well ;)
