Draft picks
  • Normally eDPS would be running the show but he's a little time poorer this year so I've offered to do this for him. Ideally we'd have 18 people sign up but if we don't get that by Friday, one or two might have to double up.

    Nick Daicos
  • Jason Horne-Francis
  • Pick #2 - North select Jason Horne Francis

North bid on Daicos early. I found Horne-Francis and Daicos hard to separate, and ultimately happy with either. I expect Collingwood and North to be in similar positions next year, by putting a bit more pressure on Collingwood, there is a chance to push them in to deficit and therefore maybe get a sneaky pick upgrade next year.
Horne-Francis has been great all year. He is a dynamic midfielder with leadership potential. North will be able to build a team around this guy. He has already shown best on performances against men, playing for South Adelaide and will walk into North's round 1 team in 2022. We know that North is committed to him having passed on a very tempting offer from Adelaide.

    boncer34 for Pick 3

    Josh Gibcus
  • Neil Erasmus
  • Hawks select Neil Erasmus.

I did a big write up but the edit didnt save.

Basically the kid is a jet. I think the hawks are pretty set with a decent backline so i focused on the midfield given the few forwards available would be a reach at this pick. This guy will add a point of difference to the midfield where he will later settle.

    Jye Amiss
  • Hawks take Neil Erasmus.

Ive asked this before, but how do you tag people?
Put '@' in front of their name.

Pick 8: Jye Amiss (195 cm/83 kg, Key Forward, East Perth)

The key forward or the midfielder? That was always the dilemma for me here and since Erasmus was taken earlier it made it obvious to take Amiss ahead of the potential midfielders that slip past here. Ironically, Amiss rarely misses in front of the big sticks which makes him a very attractive proposition for the Dockers who's biggest area of concern is a lack of young key forwards outside of Josh Treacy.

Others considered: Matthew Johnson, Ben Hobbs, Josh Ward

    You're up again for GWS

    Mac Andrew
  • GWS take Mac Andrew.

I dont mind him and would be happy to reach for hm. A good ruckman is hard to find, especially one with this guys traits. Bulk him up in the twos for a few years and see what happens.

Would have liked Gibcus but he went early.

I think theres no point in selecting another midfield that will have to bide his time in the twos and then ask for a trade in two years.

    eth-dog you're up

    Ben Hobbs
  • Pick 12: Ben Hobbs (183 cm/80 kg, Inside Midfielder, Greater Western Victoria Rebels).

Hobbs is probably the best "pure" inside midfielder of this draft, and I figured he would go earlier than this so I'm stoked to pick him here. An inside mid who bounces off tacklesand extracts the ball, he'll be a great addition to Angus Brayshaw and Caleb Serong in the middle.

Others considered: Matthew Johnson, Josh Ward

  • Josh Goater
  • Essendon - 13 - Josh Goater

Very close 4 way toss up for me but I’ve gone Goater in the end. Not without risk but another nice size, athletic kid who could easily develop into Jack Crisp, the forward version of Nat Fyfe or anything in between. Can take a grab and is a nice mover in traffic, could offer a great compliment in the middle, up forward with his marking and ground ball winning or his run from behind in defence.

    Josh Ward
  • Brisbane - 16 - Josh Ward

The luxury of best available. Can run like the clappers and use it, which are universal attributes but given the ball winners and big bodies Brisbane have he probably starts on a wing or flank, potentially in the VFL if they want to use him on ball a more.

Truth be told if I was going absolute best available I’d have taken him for Essendon, he’s a more refined and ready to go prospect than Goater and even though Goater has massive potential due to his size and speed I definitely wouldn’t be mad if we took him.

    Tyler Sonsie
  • Pick 19: Tyler Sonsie

So I was very sure that Jacob van Rooyen would be around and as such I'd take him to cover a small key forward issue. With that gone I had to think about whether to reach for Bazzo as a key defender, or take a midfielder here. I figured that there are some other key defenders that were going to be around my next couple of picks so I went for the best player and midfielder available here in Sonsie, someone who can play inside or outside to good effect and can have an immediate impact.

Others considered: Campbell Chesser, Rhett Bazzo

    Darcy Wilmot
  • Pick 20 - Lions - Darcy Wilmot

Reckon the Lions would have loved JVR to fall through because the consensus seems to be they want a tall but given none of them are worth it here I’ll go Wilmot as long term Birchall, Lester and/or Rich replacement. Looks a strong and competitive half back much like Starcevic but very late birthday combined with not a lot of footy this year means you’re potentially looking at a really good value selection here.

Lions will not use 51 or 67 so if anyone is keen on those picks and can offer me an upgrade on pick 39 in return DM me.
