Won't be starting until all lists are finalized. We could discuss how the game is going to run though?

I think we'll have to limit it to 18 teams.
Did you say that earlier? Coz I didn't read the OP

Well for starters, we probably need to decide how the winner is chosen, list size, and how long the draft will take. Just some early thoughts. I personally think a voting system like last yearcould be used, also taking 2016 performances into account. List size of around 30 seems reasonable to me. I'm a fan of the Adelaide boards rules which are linked in the OP.

That's a big read but it sounds good, just as long as I don't have to work out scoring!

I think if somebody abandons their team, we should force them into online social marginalisation.

Honestly I think the best answer is to have 22 players drafted and a vote at the end. Keep it simple.

I think voting at the end of the season is good because it means that we actually see our players perform after drafting them. It'll lead to people choosing who they think will perform the best, instead of who they think people will vote for. Might sound harsh, but I'd like to think everybody participating would be willing to put some time into the game (which really isn't much at all).

So a simple 3-2-1 vote, but after the season? Sounds good, as long as we have a way to account for injuries. Mid-season draft / free agency periods?

OK, are people still interested in doing this? If so, we can finalise entrants and rules over Christmas, and start early in the new year perhaps?

My proposal for some simple-ish rules, incorporating some of the suggestions in the thread so far:

Drafting
2nd Jan - ~14th Feb (at the latest - finishing before NAB cup): Main Draft, 30 players per entrant (can be less, if we want the Supp draft to be more important)
14th Feb - 14th March: Trade Period
14th March - 15th March: Delisting Period
17th March - ~21th March (23rd at the latest - period between NAB cup and Round 1): Supplementary Draft, top-up to 30 players

Mid-season draft (after Round 12?): All undrafted and delisted players available, brief delisting period beforehand

Snake order for drafts - can possibly reverse order or reshuffle between drafts.

Trading
Trades between players freely available during season between rounds, no other limitations

Judging
3-2-1 voting: Main vote after H&A season, pre-season winner as well, voted at start of season
No dealing with other metrics a la past Adelaide board comps, but we can work out a set of minor prizes at the end of the season based on player ratings, SC, B&F, etc. if people are keen.

Any thoughts?

Are we all vaguely happy with the rules I just posted? And fodzilla, are you taking part or not?

The main problem is that even with an initial draft of 25 per team, we're still looking at nine picks per day in order to fit everything in before the pre-season comp. We got through 400 picks last time in 58 days (including a slow-down over Christmas and NYE), and we'll have 45 at a stretch this time. I think a time limit of anything less than 24 hours is probably not fair (and hopelessly optimistic), so I suggest that we all just try to keep things snappy and cross that bridge if and when we come to it. We can either a) keep picking through the pre-season comp, or b) cut the draft short at the end of the current round and lengthen the supplementary draft.

I suggest we aim for 25 rounds in the main draft and re-assess at the start of Feb. If it's closer to 30, fantastic, if it's more like 18, then we'll probably have to look at drafting during the pre-season comp as above - during the week perhaps, in order to keep any perceived disadvantage to a minimum.

questions, queries, concerns?

I don't mind it.
