Just on Worpel, the negative on him was his kicking, apparently a very low 40% efficiency. Now I’ve never seen him play so interested in others’ opinion.

Another guy who apparently can’t kick for shit. There’s obviously a good reason these guys drop so far or don’t get drafted.

Guys who can’t kick may be good accumulators but gees they hurt you especially if they also don’t have decent speed. Priddis was a liability last few years to the Eagles.

We had 3 chances to pick him, dont think the recruiters would see it as missing out.

I like how we have dozens of posts about Cassidy Parish mostly because of the family connection.

Nowhere near the interest in Harry Jones or Alex Federico who are big Essendon fans and fill the same role.

How good does Cassidy Parish have to be to make it as a one paced inside midfielder who can't do anything else and who can't kick?

There's obviously a chance that the guy we do take in the rookie draft will be a guy on no one's radar (much like Draper last year) but the 'known' leftovers actually look decent.

I'd personally be hoping for Jordan Butts but any of Harrison Jones, Trent Mynott, Appleby, Frederico, Parish, Kreuger or Jack Powell would be fine by me.

Butts isn't even 18 yet, can clunk it and plays both ends, I reckon he'd be a ripping get.

You're right, we will miss him in the rookie draft... Because we don't want him! Will be available, again, and we won't pick him.
Nothing to do with Merrett.

IMO if you can’t kick before you are recruited you will never learn to kick it in the pressure cooker of AFL.

Seldomly a Jobe Watson learns to kick better but history suggests it’s rare.

I think getting a player who hasn’t fully grown or needs to eat healthier or get fitter has more scope for success.

The other candidates would be players that might be driving 2-4 hours to play under 18 games and perform moderately but not to their potential because of travel logistics.

But players that mechanically are unsound are rarely going to succeed under the pressure cooker we call AFL, Dylan CLarke won’t make it as my example.

Actually, I doubt Kicking is Parish's biggest issue,rather its movement from a stoppage, especially in a defensive sense.

Have a look at Parish's higights and say whether that kicking action has scope for improvement.

His kicking is being discussed like it's Colyer's. The mechanics of Parish's action are deeply flawed. I have no reason to think that he can ever fix his kicking.

People forget that the Geelong Falcons smashed it this year with 2 guys in the middle that cant kick. In the final they gave the Brayshaws a towelling.

FWIW IMO jobe wasn't a great kick, but he could still kick - it was more fat lazy syndrome rather than technically cant kick because of atrocious ball drop or whatever.

even last year, Jobe went back to not being able to kick - he was scrubbing them all over - proof, it was just in application, not technique - once he stopped concentrating on his career and giving it 100%, it went backwards again.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Day.
He's not the ADHD inside menace that Greenwood is. But when he's in the middle he's calm, got great balance, poise and always makes good decisions. Especially in traffic.
Reliable disposal. Dangerous up forward.

He and Schloithe are my picks for today.

- Kruger (athletic 196cm KPP)

- Aiden Domic (185cm skillful running machine and outside mid/wingman who ran a 6:15 2 km time trial at the combine).


Think that we might as well take the punt on another tall for the next 12 months which could help to narrow our focus on the draft next year.

No doubt that Domic has his deficiencies but he's got a very useful set of raw attributes which we could mould in the long term. If Port has an earlier pick than we do I suspect they will pounce.

Not saying it has to be Parish; but he's a big body that plays as an inside clearance player.

Is there anyone in the RD that has the scope to be a solid type in the Priddis mould - can win a clearance and loves a tackle - that can at least work to hold off someone like a Kennedy (SYD) that our current mids really struggle to contain?
