Also, anyone claiming the idea of 'booing during the ANZAC ceremony is disgraceful' is an idiot. The event of the day was cheapened out the minute they decided to put a sports match on it.
I'd say the sportsmatch didn't cheapen it awarding a ******* ANZAC medal for playing that particular game did.

To those making the very long reach that booing at the end of the match and ceremony was "disrespectful to the anzacs", answer this question honestly.

How many people booed at the dawn services? Did you attend? Or did you latch on to the afls version of paying respect to the anzacs and just go to the footy? If so how many boos did you hear towards the anzacs in the pre game ceremony for the anzacs that the afl whipped up? Zero.

Work it out.
I've been trying to type this all night, but im far too drunk to type it.
Amen to this paragraph!

Does the afl donate all money from the gates towards the anzacs? Or zero? Cos they certainly piggy back off the back of it. How much ad revenue do they donate to the anzacs from today's or any other game?

Claims that they were booing Pendlebury and not the umpiring don't really stand up when using common sense and logic.

5 minutes after one of the worst umpired games you would ever see (whether it favored one side or not, most would agree it was atrocious)

What do you expect? People don't get over things that quick.
I've seen far worse adjudicated games.

This was an under whistled contest (19-17) as most big matches are. The bigger outliers weren't the non-decisions as a lot were let go, but the soft ones which were given like Baguley and Gwelfie in front of goal. There were probably some to the Pies too but I don't notice those as much ;).

In the end though it wasn't the umpires that were a problem for us, it was our awful set shots. Kick better than 2.10 and umpiring decisions either way would have meant little.

Didn't like the booing, but anyone up on their high horse thinking collingwood (or any other supporter base - including the eagles) wouldn't have done the same after being on the end of those umpiring decisions is just deluding themselves. Footy is a wonderful sport and people from all walks of life follow it, but that invariably means that in any supporter base there will be bogans who do stuff like this; it is a shitty thing to do but it is NOT unique to Essendon. Tarring entire supporter bases for stuff like this is just dumb, and only serves to help give people a false feeling of moral superiority.

I formed it by watching the dogs that season, that game and thereafter. I think us sheep had the same view about the hawks game this year. Baaaaa
So you've formed a view that umpires can influence games, my views are in direct contrast to that, either way, we're both entitled to an opinion. Mine seems to be that of the minority which doesn't bother me. I maintain the umpires had very little impact on the game, letting Collingwood go out to a 5 goal lead probably had something to do with it though, but keep looking through those red and black glasses.

I've never personally booed any player and don't really like when others do it, but booing a player during the course of a game is a bit different to booing during a medal ceremony. Bombers fans had their chance to voice displeasure at the umpires, which they had done, there was no need to carry on during the ceremony. Claims that it was purely about the umpiring doesn't really stand up in that context.

Pies fans did not boo the Eagles as they were receiving their Premiership medals, despite losing a close one. If they had it would have been a story as well.
Agreed. I must admit I booed 1 player when he was awarded best player in a game where he was obviously a thug sent out to hit talented players in my team. Was an influential player but I was angry that shit and dirty play was rewarded. On the rest, although I thought Goodes deserved the response he got, I did not think booing was appropriate. Similarly booing good players sim0ly because they are good is not on. Having said that, I couldn’t give a stuff if people choose to that. Watching Bremerton shoot down that weasel Gerard Whatley tonight on 360 Was a joy. While Whatley is clever with his arguments, he wants to sterilise the game and he and his ilk are destroying it. The AFL jumps to the tune of journos like him and that other ferret, Barrett and it’s time that they were ignored. Nothing in this but media beat up....move on.

Essendon supporters have disrespected the vaunted ANZAC medal, a medal for courage, bravery, talent and hard work ethic on the face of the ultimate battlefield. 3x medallist James Hird will be disgusted. Hang your heads in shame.
no, they disrespected Australia, and humankind in general

Na the one where he ducked his head to draw a free kick.
Everyone except collingwood fans says he did it therefore he did it.
Take the pies glasses off
Essendon were hard done by late, sure.

Pendlebury put his head over the ball and then made sure the umpire noticed it. Free was there though.

Essendon got two goals from shocking frees.

Overall an awful display of umpiring and it did impact an otherwise great game.

But booing Pendlebury accepting the medal was shitty stuff.

Essendon and our fans, particularly since the supplements saga, have been easy targets. This is another example where we will give the football media & BigFooty a good week or so of discussion, ‘observations’ and criticism. That’s fine.

The booing today (as it is in most situations!) was unsavoury, definitely. We will never know (unless we interview all the few thousand and the other sheep in the crowd responsible) if it was the umpiring or Pendlebury himself. Everyone will have their theories on it but we’ll never know.

Pendlebury and his team got the win today. I think that’s all they are really going to care about. I thought he was really respectful in his speech after the game but with Buckley (rightly or wrongly) bringing it to attention... it will dominate headlines for the next few years when the attention should probably be on Collingwood’s win instead. But now we will have to listen to the moral compasses of Gerard Whateley, Mark Robinson and your average BigFooty poster (with a conveniently blank memory of their own clubs poor crowd behaviour) for the next week discuss it.

We’ll also never know if the bad umpiring decisions (or lack of decisions) cost us in the end... but if we won a game in similar circumstances I could definitely understand the frustration from the opposition.
