Those explayers have an impartiality to their comments. It was the right sentiment, but it wasn't Buckley's place to enter the debate.
I think Buckleys comments were entirely appropriate and timely. He has the right to express his view even as a current coach of the team.
Nip it in the bud.
If these clowns boo during the presentations next year when we win after they have been placed on notice then they will be exposed for being the disrespectful sooks they are.

What about current players?
Right sentiment and sportsmanship is not limited to past players just because they are impartial.
The Essendon players were disappointed. But they displayed sportsmanship - shake hands after the game, stood there listening to Pendlebury.
Didn't see them booing.
It would also be nice if there was some sportsmanship and respect displayed by supporters after the game too.
Yell, scream and carry on about the play whilst the game is being played. Like the players - play hard during the game.
But at the end show some respect.

It isn't what they paid, it's what they missed. They were that bad the players stopped still at least twice when blatant holding the ball calls were missed. They were utterly blatant.

Then you have Pendles flopping and they pay that...which is sort of fine (if they were consistent which we know they aren't because they are as inconsistent as anything) but then Tippa should have got one down the other end. Pay it both ways or don't pay it at all. Personally I wouldn't be paying either of them. The Pendles one should have been play on. That was an absolute stinker.
It IS what they pay if they score two goals from dodgy frees. What are you talking about.

Forget the free kick count. It was the blatant inconsistencies that got fans annoyed. I can't stand Essendon much anymore, but I understand why they did it, in fact I applaud it. The umpiring standard all year has been a flat out joke, and it's compounded by what happened yesterday. If you want to umpire one way, the least you can do is be consistent.

Probably weren’t happy with his blatant flop to win a free. But who knows you’ll have to ask them.
This is what i find funny.

Players stage for frees to try influence the umps to get frees, fans call it cheating.
Fans boo to try influence umps to give more frees to their team, that's ok.

Intelligent football fans (you know, not the stupid ones who can't discern between poor decisions that goals are scored from and poor decisions on the deep half back flank you didn't get but you cleared anyway) are just perplexed how Essendon fans managed to convince themselves they were somehow robbed to the point of justifying booing an anzac medalist

And this is the thing. I though holding the ball wise they were consistent.

About time the real issue was called out.

https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/n...l/news-story/e22b7cd3b79ce7edb1c4ab6a9c078b2a

Also, if the AFL are serious about setting a tone about booing take Essendon out of the game next in ANZAC Day.

Sit in a camp on both issues or shut up, acknowledge umpiring has been below average and take the game away from Essendon.

Both won’t happen.

The AFL won’t lead by example it will just expect supporters too.

I’m glad I call my kids out when they do something wrong, they actually learn to own mistakes.

Just wait for Nicholls tonight, been happening to Port for years, but as we are over the border it’s notcteally an issue...

I’m not talking about the free kick count ffs! I’m taking about two howlers where the umps lined them up for goals when their opponents did bugger all. The shockers were on both sides but these actually hurt the scoreboard.why is this hard for you?

Problem is some people seem to care a lot and if we don't keep booing now, they won't get the message. I expect plenty of booing at remaining matches towards anything and everyone lol . Don't let me down fellow boo-urnsers!!!
Hey don't lump me in with booers. I may think it means jack shit but I personally don't get any enjoyment out of booing players/umpires.

I just think crowds can't do a whole lot. It's pretty much cheer or boo so why not be bothered about booing.

I was at the game and held off posting in this thread until I had watched the replay at home. To be honest for every missed Bomber free you could find a missed Collingwood one just as easy. The free kick count was 17-14 almost even.

The shocking missed call against Crisp, while terrible that it wasn't called, the ball ended in an Essendon possession anyway. Hardly the deciding factor in the game.

I also have no problem with booing during the game, boo all you want. Goodes got booed hard when he made it obvious it was affecting him, Ablett got booed for being a champion footballer as well as his stupid 'like'. All the great players have been booed so fair game.

Booing a player after the siren while he is trying to thank the crowd and the opposition on ANZAC Day is poor form and Bomber supporters should be well embarrassed. Shame on the Collingwood supporters if they booed Sheuy when he accepted his medal, as I have read happened. It doesn"t change.

It's just not needed but unfortunately these days the bad sportsmanship of supporters is a reflection of the atrocious standards of our society.

The human race is ******.
As compared to the past when everyone in society was racist, domestic violence rates were multiple fold higher, everyone smoked and people looked at those in a lower social class with contempt. Lets return to those days.
Not everyone was a racist and domestic violence rates were miles lower than what they are now. Not everyone smoked (Although yes many more did than today) and upper class still look down on lower class.

Watch the news tonight and tell me we have good standards in todays society.

Why not? He stood up for his player nothing more.
The way he said it, and the way he backed it up afterwards makes it sound as if a) Collingwood fans would never do it, and if they did he would call them out for it. It's incredibly naive.

All he did was throw Gasoline on the fire, which is a bit rich after on Monday he comes out and says it's the media's fault for making booing of Ablett a story. This echoes what he said regarding Goodes as well, that it was the Media's and not Collingwood fans to blame.

First question he's going to get at his press conference after the Port Adelaide game is "What did you think of the Collingwood fans booing x player?" Will it be shameful then?

Are the AFL going to name and shame the booers?

We all need to just sit there like cardboard cutouts smile and politely applaud all good play by our team and the opposition and at the end of the game shake hands with opposing supporters and say "Jolly good game chaps, the game was the winner today", as well as acknowledging with 3 Hip Hip Hoorays what a fantastic job the umpires did.

Get off your high horse.

Pendlebury was a respected player.

Until he decided to be a ducking cheat.

Deserves the boos.

Just like Buckley for knifing Brisbane all those years ago then malthouse.

Karma
Playing with in the rules is not cheating...
Systematic drugging your players with PED’s is cheating...
That stench and stain is with you forever muppet.

There have been hundreds of games just this century that have been directly decided by umpiring decisions. Yesterday's wouldn't even count in the top 80 for DIRECT impact on eventual winner and loser.
Essendon supporters looked foolish. Would hate to see how they reacted if they copped what Hawthorn and Sicily did against the Bulldogs.
Collingwood lost a grand final because of a non-decision that affected the direct result of the game and the supporters didn't carry on this badly.

Is it time to ask the question about Essendon being the most hated team in the comp now? Collingwood gained a lot of respect for Buckleys improved demeanour and their efforts to make a grand final last year.
Essendon have stolen Good Friday from the smaller clubs, their supporters put on a performance yesterday

are people actually complaining about the free in the 4th qtr where Pendles has his head down over the ball and gets run into? sure he adds a bit of mayo to it, but that is a free kick every day of the week...i thought the free against Langdon to mascara eyes was way worse....50 / 50 at best...also a clear mark to langdon not paid, there were plenty of bad decisions both ways....and to try and claim those boos when Pendlebury was announced as the winner were for the umpires is just pathetic....

the stephenson holding the ball should have been paid for sure but to be honest
shiels disposal was way more of a factor than the umps....

Cox getting his free right in front was worse when the defender didn’t even touch him at all or very little.
