Its a really vexed and complicated situation. Lyon and Watson you could tell were stressed about this. Both defiant in their stance against booing champion players, ESPECIALLY during a ceremony. Questions will be asked if they will be as strong when a player gets booed this weekend.
Some points to consider
1) are there rules/stipulations to follow when booing?
2) in this case, collingwood supporters (and non collingwood supporters alike) are decrying the booing. What happens when their own fans boo opponents? Or when a player leaves the club as travis Cloke did, and was jeered by collingwood supporters in his first game against them.
3) Are excuses used simply a cover up for other reasons when voicing displeasure? Examples
(a) essendon fans were booing umpires
(b) fans booed goodes because he is telling us what to do
(c) booed ablett because he staged for free kicks
