When Buckley took the microphone in front of 90,000 people at the MCG on ANZAC Day, he addressed the booing and criticised those doing it. When you do that you know it’s going to draw even more attention from the media to booing. If Buckley wants less attention paid to booing, perhaps don’t get all shirty about it when given a microphone in front of a full MCG...

Barrett proves to the footy world what a little turd he his again..

As a neutral spectator it was absolutely disgusting to see repeated piss poor umpiring decisions mar what was a great contest between both sides. They're incompetent & it seems like there's no accountability. Players & spectators don't even know the rules of the game anymore & it appears the umpires don't either. Way to drop the ball Gil, try worrying about the actual game for a change you overpayed hack!

Barrett is 100% spot on. Their excuses for being arseholes are as weak as piss. Remember all the gnashing of teeth when Jobe was booed after confessing to cheating? I think we had all forgotten what a shit culture this club has while they were wallowing in oblivion for a few years after Jimbo pushed the self destruct button.

complaining about the umpiring and booing an individual who was told he was being given an approved substance are poles apart. To even suggest it is idiotic

They had the opportunity to change that culture but chose instead to dig in.

Nathan Buckley is a gentleman's gentleman and a credit to himself, his family, his club and to the sport. The way he shared how he raises his children to cheer for their team and not boo to denegrate I think is totally admirable. I personally don't boo, its stressful enough watching your team play without turning peanut because something happens on the field you don't like.

Taking it a step further, anyone who lowers themselves to the point where they boo their own team should not even attend football matches ... stay home watch it on tv and yell at the dog ... and hopefully he bites you.

I personally didn't like Buckley's response saying we shouldn't boo chamion players. He should have said we shouldn't boo any player awarded a medal. Is it ok to boo players not deemed to be champions? As for Pendlebury, he didn't deserve to be the victim. He played a great game and cleverly milked that free which was great play as he sucked in the umpire.

If the umpiring was fair in the game, there'd be no booing.

Don't blame the outcome (booing), blame the cause (terrible umpiring).
The umpiring contributed to the frustration the Essendon fans felt, however the umps had left the field and it was quiet as the Anzac medal winner was called out-then the booing got going. So strikes me that some Essendon fans actually chose to boo pendelbury. Just poor losers probably.

I wouldnt call putting your head down then moving forward until you feel contact, then flopping on the ground like you've been shot clever. I'd call it shocking umpiring

Buckley agrees with you. He said today he shouldn't have said just champions.

good on him for sticking up for his player. However, why didnt he have the same message for his own club's fans when they booed Goodes? Maybe he didnt think much of Goodes as a player
How do you know he wasn’t referencing them yesterday?

He just said “shame on you for booing a champion”. Didnt point to any paticular supporter base. For all we know he was referencing collingwood supporters

I laugh at people who think they know how the umpires are thinking.

Tell me, how do you know he sucked the umpire in, how do you know that the umpire was or wasn't going to pay the free anyway.

What's so hard to understand about Goodes being booed about reasons besides being a great footballer? I don't like the booing but crikey, the circumstances are vastly different.

Buckley's comments were also 4 years apart from each other. Who's to say his views haven't or aren't allowed to have changed?

A few years back Buckley blamed the media for giving booing too much attention. That was of course when a player not on his team was getting boo’d, but fans from Collingwood were dishing it out.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s AFL 360 on Monday night, Buckley was asked if he felt moved when hearing the boos. He responded by accusing the media of encouraging the booing by giving it column inches and airtime.
“I’m not listening for it (the booing) mate, I’m just watching the bloke play,” said Buckley.
“Why give it any air? We’ve given it too much air. It’s the first thing you read about in the paper or hear about on the radio because you guys (the media) are listening for it intently.”

“You’re listening for it intently because it’s a story that continues,” said Buckley. “It happens but you don’t have to focus on it heavily.”

Here we are a couple of years later, and we have a story about booing blown out of proportion, in part due to Buckley saying “Shame on anyone booing a champion”. Whose making the story bigger now??
No, Bucks is not a hypocrite. Football supporters (and the media) are the culprits.

It's not ok to continuously boo any 1 player at a game.

If you disagree with their opinions, move on. If they are playing dirty football, then maybe it's called for.

Not the case with many of the leagues greatest players.
