Essendon gifted 3 Friday Night's in a row

Headline is far more provocative than the actual substance of it.

V Carlton - Makes sense, its the clubs 150th anniversary game and was the number one fixture request from the preseason.

V St Kilda - Would seem to be rewarding St Kilda with a prime time slot based on their form more than anything else. Don't have a massive problem with it. but is the most contentious of the three.

V West Coast - NRL hosts SOO at the same venue, ruling Sat/Sun out. If anything, this fixture has been a main stay of Thursday night football around the bye, so if anything the AFL has shunted it to an 8:40pm AEST start on a Friday night on Foxtel rather than provide it the standalone, national coverage it probably pencilled in at the start of the year., The WB v Hawthorn starts at 7pm as the C7 game, so not a desirable fixture for Ess at all.

Seriously, West Coast Essendon should be a Sunday graveyard slot. It'll be borderline unwatchable. Glad the Carlton game is on a Fri night though as that matchup has been shunted into poor timeslots for years.
The wb one could actually be a good contest but I reckon the dogs have had too many primetime fixtures already. Freo, Saints, Dees and Lions are the standout teams and have earned fri/sat night fta exposure imo

5.10 in Perth Friday night - does anyone work for a living?

fair enough, but stiff for dockers not to get at least one friday night game. could've swapped dogs/hawks and blues/dockers no probs, and maybe freo/lions on Thursday night.

the real question is why cant the cretins in AFL house announce ALL of the fixtures, how the hell do interstate fans plan any travel?

The afl are just about the most amateurish outfit in world sport when it comes to this stuff. Imagine looking at that Freo v brisbane game in round 12 after the start both sides have made this season and thinking - yeah, let’s put them on KAYO on Sunday afternoon.

Bit like putting doing the first 6 rounds and putting last season's 2nd v 6th on KAYO on a Sunday afternoon.

That doesn't sound like me.....

Will be interesting to see how these teams move their ball in round 13 considering there will be an additional 36 players on the ground who are playing against themselves.

This is the AFL Morans next big idea - 4 teams, 4 goals, 2 footys, packed stadiums Absolute Mahem Round. a bit like thunderdome, 4 go in, 1 comes out.

Apparently the NRL asked the AFL to not schedule the Eagles/Essendon game on the Saturday to keep the ground as pristine as possible for the State of Origin on the Sunday that weekend. Hence they had no choice but to put it on Friday. And in any case, we've been playing Essendon in Perth on Thursday/Friday night for several years now, its almost its own marquee fixture.

But why at 6-40 pm Perth time?
7-40 pm Perth time would make more sense as starts straight after the game on eastern seaboard.

Because having one of the largest audiences starting a game at 9:40pm on the eastern seaboard is stupid?

Besides, why not 7:10pm. The 7:40/50pm start time is s**t as it is.

Just. How? Carlton on our 150th anniversay makes sense but the second and third ones don't make much sense at all. I mean West Coast and Essendon are both bottom 4 now!

I guess they had that penned as a double header night for whatever reason and can only really be done with a Perth game.

The ESS v Carlton game I am assuming has been locked in all season as it’s the 150th celebration weekend.

Stk V ESS seems a strange one, probably would have played the Tigers V Blues on that night.

Never got to understand the answer that the Melbourne audience won’t watch a match starting at 9.40 pm. The same people will sit up in the early hours of the morning to watch the Tour de France or Ashes.

I can assure you that there is an audience in Melbourne after 9.30 pm, maybe a different mob to the earlier crowd, but still a crowd.
