On topic but I said to mates since the start of the year that the bombers are dangerous and the side imo most likely to do what the dogs done.. you got alot of players coming back after a year without footy refreshed and raring to go. Add the vfl Tryouts,Mcgrath and the emotion of it I think its a chance. A small one but a chance.

All true. Actually lost to both Carlton AND Freo if you cast your mind back.

Also smashed Port, Eagles, Geelong, ran GWS, Sydney, Richmond close.
Eagles are 3/7 team away from home so beating them at home is no great feat. The equivalent of team a bottom 6 team on that record
Port are a flat track bully that no one thinks are going anywhere in September
The 17 point win against Geelong is a smashing but the 16 point loss to GWS and 15 point loss to Richmond is running them close.

Don't forget you also lost to Brisbane as well, but that wasn't what I was getting at. The advantage in playing Carlton, Freo , and GC late in the season was that by the end of the season when EFC needed to win to make finals those teams had nothing to play for.

The EFC uncontested footy will get shown up in September. Better hope Buddy kicks 0.6 again.

Swans @ SCG
Loser of Geelong or Richmond
Winner of Adelaide/GWS @ home

Just to make the GF.

it would be nice, but ill be glad just to survive this week
More Realistic That swans can follow that Path.

they are capable of beating Essendon in NSW. Swans are capable of beating the tigers/cats at the MCG in a semi final. Definitely can bet the Crows in a prelim final in Adelaide oval as well.

The funny thing is all of Carlton, Freo and GC tried really hard to win those games. Plenty of teams have dropped games unexpectedly this season (eg Hawks to Carlton and Melbourne to Collingwood with their seasons on the line) and had things gone differently we could have been among them. In addition we actually won 6 of our last 8 games to make the finals - only losing to Adelaide and Bulldogs. So it wasn't just beating up on a few lowly teams at the end.

GC - Had an interim coach that's trying to stake his claim and made a point of talking about how much he'd love to ruin our finals campaign.
Carlton - Your mob always tries hard against us - and you were keen to break your losing streak - which you kindly did against the Hawks the week after which effectively ended their campaign. Then of course having won a game after the bye and having dispelled any suggestion of tanking you rolled over for the Swans.
Freo - Were desperate to put in a better effort after getting smashed 2 times in a row and brought back more experienced players including Neale for a final effort.

I'm pretty confident we'll give a good showing vs Sydney.

This is the problem with anomalies. It happens once and then everyone thinks it'll happen again.

Bookies will make a mint this finals series from plonkers trying to find the next bulldogs.
Bookies will make a mint if there is a repeat of last season. Do you know how gambling works?

We are a 10% chance to beat the Swans at best. Don't have the inside bulls to match them which gives our runners little chance.

Will lose by 10+ goals. Sydney are a little better than WCE

If they drew PA they might have had a chance.

I agree with what Clarkson said (may have been mentioned already) that Sydney can go all the way, Essendon probably can't. But Essendon is one of the few teams that troubles Sydney. Wouldn't be surprised if the Bombers won this weekend, but if the Swans win, won't be surprised to see them in a GF

So who were the 6 out of 8 teams the Bombers beat to storm home to finals -13,11,15,16,17,14.
No it was just beating a bunch of lowly teams to get there in the end.

Deserve to be in the finals but the bruise free footy will get exposed.

Aside from the fact that I reckon the Doggies had better exposed H/A form last year, Essendon is WAY too leaky at the back to win the flag this year. They are definitely capable of winning a final or two but eventually they will get exposed in defense.

Good team to watch when on though.

Essendon are building really nicely and I rate their list but they don't have the inside power in midfield that good finals sides do. They're two good inside mids from finishing top 4 imo.
100% agreed. Essendon have bookends as good as anyone at both ends. Their tall KPP's are top shelf, but the midfield? Nope. Not enough power in the middle and finals are won with intense on the ball action in the middle.

Essendon are an exciting outside running team. Finals are won by teams that play hard inside football and can pick it up off the deck and evade tackles. That's not Essendon.

The 'Premiership Standard' says a team needs to average 100 points for and 86 against to win. This year only Adelaide fit that bill.

Did the Bulldogs fit the standard last year?

Anything is possible. Even if there is a 0.6% chance. Last time I looked 0.6% was not zero.
