The above is the perfect mutilation of the old phrase "put your house on it".

But today the old Australia of the fair go is dead......so we now say "put your house deposit on it".

There are still some who say "put your second, third, or fourth investment property on it". I bet many of those people aren't happy either with the growing divisions.

Time to vote again for equality.

So much like the dogs of last year. Looking back it's crazy that they won it.

Away to Perth
Face the reigning 3 time champs and team that played in 4 straight GF's
Away to GWS who had 2 weeks rest
Beat the Ladder topping Swans.

When you see what Essendon are faced with this season, and see that the dogs were in the same place yet won, what they did is beyond impossible. Imagine if Essendon were to do it. It looks impossible, and I don't think they will.

How the **** did the dogs win it last year. Because Essendon are in the doggies position this year. And I give them no chance.

That's what everyone says this year about the dons. What I'm saying is, Holy ****en shit Doggies. I am in even more awe now, than what I was last year.
I actually kinda get what you're saying now. Last year we took it one teaspoon at a time so the impact of what the Dogs did was in phases. This year, looking back at last, when you try and conceive the idea of Essendon winning the Premiership from here, it makes you think back to last year and wonder how the Dogs actually managed to do it.

Essendon are building really nicely and I rate their list but they don't have the inside power in midfield that good finals sides do. They're two good inside mids from finishing top 4 imo.
What they do have is quick scoring firepower. If they get a side that's a bit hesitant, they can punish them.

I've been pretty bullish about them for the last couple of months. In all likelihood they'll get knocked over by the Swans but if they Swans aren't quite on after the bye then Essendon can hurt them early with their quick scoring and put Sydney out of the contest.

After a freshen up from the bye, if they get their tails up they could be hard to stop.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they get smashed by Sydney this week and alternatively it wouldn't surprise me if they beat Sydney.

Essendon might theoretically win the premiership this year. A satellite might theoretically crash through my ceiling and give me a nasty bump on the head as well.
That might stuff up your tv reception for the Grand Final. But if Essendon win I say that's a win ...... surely. Here's hoping for that satellite to fall on our collective non Essendon-supporting heads in the unlikely event that the Bombers make it.

More Realistic That swans can follow that Path.

they are capable of beating Essendon in NSW. Swans are capable of beating the tigers/cats at the MCG in a semi final. Definitely can bet the Crows in a prelim final in Adelaide oval as well.
yep.
Swans are the Dogs of this year imo (in that they are the only team that can win it outside the top 4).

Im glad we got to 7th
Its a good result for a team that had to reintegrate 7-8 players into the 22 with 7-8 players they had never played with before, under a coaching panel they had never worked under before.

We'll cop flak if we lose because our finals history is poor for the last decade. But the season was a lot of right steps and a few disappointing ones.
Losing to Sydney @ SCG in an Elim wouldn't a be step back though. A win will be a massive step forward.
But 2018 onwards is looking promising.

Bombers a chance. A very slim chance.

That said, it would raise questions about the bye should they do a Doggies of 2016. That would be two premiers against traditional trend in a row.
Which would actually be a good thing. Would show the football world that with the bye you only need to finish top 8 to be a thread in September as opposed to top 4. Since the current finals system, so a few decades, you've needed to be top 4 to win a Premiership. Imagine the value to the competition, players, members and fans knowing that 8 teams are alive in September.

I kinda like the bye. Sorry!

You would hate the bye if you finished top 4.

i have the opinion the Bye will hurt the Swans the most. They are winning by being able to win the attrition of 4 quarters. Well drilled on 4 quarters of contested football and finishing teams off that run out of steam.
They lose that continuity from Rd23 to EF1 and they get a team that will freshen up

Funnily enough, our game earlier in the year came after our Bye, but they played the Tigers the week before in Melbourne.
I think that played to both teams' strengths and they just edged us out at the death.
Keen to see if we have the upper hand with the bye.....just really hoping Hurley, Fanta and Hooker are ready to go.

Top 4 minimum next year imo would be disappointed if we play in yet another elimination final.

we coughed up 3 wins this season we should have had
Swans, Lions, Blues.
Those 12 pts would still have sitting 7th given our % difference.
The comp is a different beast now.
Making finals and being able to compete anywhere is what it's about.

If I'm honest, i can see us beating the Swans if we play to our maximum potential. And i reckon we could challenge the Cats or Tigers the following week.
Adelaide @ AO is the only one where we'd be hard pressed to win given how good they are and how well they play that ground.
If we can fix that, and the inconsistency in pressure, we can go top 4.

Nope they didn't. They were the only team in the past 15 year that didn't fit the standard I believe.
Aussie rules has been been going since 1897. That's 120 years. One year of that period is equivalent to 0.83333% of all years. Maybe that 0.6% chance has already happened being last year.

This is shit maths isn't it?

That's true but finishing top 4 gives you the double chance and only needing 2 wins to get a spot in the grand final.

No, they made finals by beating 3 other finalists along the way, the easy draw excuse went out the window when we lost to Carlton, Fremantle and Brisbane.
That Crows game was a super bad game for the Bombers and is in the back of my mind come finals time. That said, like last year you just have to play 4 awesome games of footy to win it so who knows
