Riska grew up in your backyard... you had plenty of opportunity to grab him in that draft.

We got him at 61 in the same draft you took Kepler Bradley at 6 in.

Ask questions of your recruitment staff rather that floating trade scenarios with Brisbane supporters who have no say in the process either way.

you are so smug...there is no reason to be

you drafted both des headland and brennan in different drafts...well done clap clap

why bring up kepler when every club makes screw ups

You suggesting that drafting Brennan was a screw up??

Reputation trails form by 6 months i spose...

1) Essendon DON'T have a history of poaching players. They DO have a history of making stupid trade offers that simply halt proceedings.

Maybe not a successful history but the big play for Brennan last year is still fresh in the mind

In the last 20 National Draft picks for the Lions, only 4 were local boys and only 3 are still on the list now and there is a real chance there will only be 2 after this year's wash up

Then each year there seems to be 9 Melbourne clubs lining up to grab the best Victorians coming out of contract(at present Geelong don't need to or are prevented by the salary cap) - that's 9 salary caps versus one

Of course it is perfectly legit and clubs should try their best to improve their lists - but it explains why Brisbane people are so touchy about the situation, especially as Collingwood, loudly supported by Essendon led the push to remove the retention allowance which was put in place because Brisbane (and Sydney) will always have a much smaller percentage of locals on the list and face a combined assault on uncontracted players

Brennan was one of our shining lights this year. Watch more footy champ.

Also quite as apt example, considering that Essendon tried to lure him in the Psd last year.

Spot on.

Why should we leave out the other two biggest flops - Raph and Xav Clarke.

Headland's another pretty shit example... we got a pretty good bundle for him once he decided he wanted to nick off.

I can't believe he named those two and not Spaanderman though... That probably says enough in and of itself.

Surely you aren't suggesting the VFL clubs would act against the spirit of a national competition, rather than narrow self-interest? Surely not- everyone can see why the Big D is setting out to create a multi-million dollar flop in Western Sydney, rather than in one of the traditional heartlands in Tassie. Can't they?

And a new GC side, rather than assist the Lions who, like it or not, are still in the business of establishing the code in LLLLLeague LLLLLand. AFL priorities are obvious to all- if we need to seek reassurance that the V (sorry) AFL always acts in the national interest, look no further than its detailed enquiry into Mal Michael's "retirement". All above board there, no question.

Or, if you want to go further back, the AFL (non) interest into the transfer of Greg Williams from the Swans to Carlton- where he was employed as a "landscape gardener"- or at least that's what the invoices said.

.... AFL always acts in the national interest, look no further than its detailed enquiry into Mal Michael's "retirement".

Not too sure that that is an area that they would have enjoyed inquiring into Tassie but you never know how many old Melbourne Truth readers there may have been on the AFL Commission.:D

Essendon are a disgraceful club, quite happy to poach other teams players rather then develop their own. I hope the 2001 grand final still burns deep.
That was Sheedy's idea. As soon as Knights came he made them all retire (ie. Camporeale, Heffernan etc.)

And obviously you haven't seen our talent that we are developing.

LoL you tit. Des Headland played his best football for the Lions but never wanted to be here. His football made him valuable for a time and we got a) a slot in player in Caracella that played his part in the premiership run when you goons couldn't afford him and we offloaded Cupido on you in the process :D And b) pick #3 which secured Brennan (if you think that was a stupid move you've got rocks in your head) and #19 which got us Troy Selwood, who is still here but looking like being a trade prospect this season and one worth something given he can tag, has experience and promises to fill a gap for another team straight up and will be able to play on for many years yet.. you can have a look at him if you want.
We lost a player that fell away in his work ethic when he didn't have to strive for something. The whole saga has ended up being a major win for us over the journey, at pretty much every stage.

Re: Mal Michael "inquiry"- sorry, don't understand what you mean by this, can I ask you to spell it out.

What I meant, if it wasn't obvious, was that the AFL was not serious in looking into the Mal Michael matter [which, to be fair, was at least partly the fault of Bowers in not tying up the loose ends]

OH NO!!!! we are trying to trade for a player!!!! shame shame shame on us, how dare we

It's hardly the point, as I would hope you would realise. You are trying to poach a player that you had numerous opportunities to pick up, FFS he basically grew up in the Bomber's backyard, but you didn't. We took the punt, and groomed him into the good player that he is, and now you're trying to pinch him for way under market value. It would be like us taking Mark McVeigh.

We are not interested in trading him. You are trying to poach him.

true. but if you came after mcveigh we just wouldnt let it happen, as brisbane should if they feel so strongly about keeping risky.
and if a club were to offer someone like mcveigh more than we were willing to, clearly they want him more

You make it sound like Essendon want to keep their players more than Brisbane, but it's not like that, there are other factors involved.

Rischi's said he plans on staying in Brisbane. I'm sure Brisbane is keen on holding on to him. Offering him over the odds to try to take him south is poaching.

knights n co. must obviously be thinking that he can be an integral part of our growing midfield, and is willing to pay what is needed to get there. that is called building a team. apprently riscky seems happy to stay in brisbane, but if he wants 380k or watever it was, then he isnt happy to stay in brisbane

Just a little side note in todays Herald Sun (The Pulse with Daryl Timms) "And expect midfielder Michael Rischitelli to sign a new deal with the Brisbane Lions this week"

Sorry Dick, but looks like he's happy In Brisbane.

Why does it annoy you that we are annoyed at you trying to pinch our players?

because its football, people try to fill holes in their list.

Perhaps the problem is that you are trying to downplay it and justify it with terms like 'fill holes in the list'. If you just called it what it is - poaching - then you may understand why we get annoyed.
