You get the letter in the mail saying to use your card to redeem your cap at any of the games from rounds 2-7.
We have 38,000 members and to be very generous we'll just say that 30,000 of them are matchday members.
Being our first home game for the year it would be safe to assume that in a crowd of 27,461 you'd expect a solid 15,000 Essendon members to be in attendance.
So when I get to the Membership Marquee at 12:30, some 40 minutes before the match you can imagine my disappointment that all the caps they had were gone.
The lady said that there were only 5000 caps taken to the game, a game where the percentage of members who were actually going to end up with a cap was less than 50%
Thumbs down to the Essendon Football Club and it's membership department that can't even get organised enough so members can actually collect what they have already paid for.
I'll be their next week and I'll be one unhappy customer if they run out again and tell me I can get it next week against the Kangaroos!
