They deserved it, but I would have thought it was quite obvious. The only one to challenge would be the Aust Cricket Team but they were in a different category.

The Wallabies should have been named Team of the Year. You could not do more than bring home a World Cup, played internationally.
However, now that I think of it, was there an International Team of the year as well.?
(I have not been near radio or papers for a few days)

Essendon did very well in 2000 and certainly deserve some praise on a national scale.
I would have loved so see the Hockeyroos claim something too.
