Essendon to meet with Judd this week

You can't read too much into these articles unless you are there watching the interview listening to every question and answer. It's amazing how newspapers can shuffle things around to make it look like a big news story when in reality it isn't much more than a passing remark.

PJ has stated “I can tell you that speculation we would trade Paddy Ryder and Scott Gumbleton is totally incorrect.” No clever editing there, it's as clear as day what he is saying...

Mal Michael isn't washed up. Campo had a bad run with injuries- he could certainly still play the game and had wnated to come to us for two years IIRC.

no mal michael isnt washed up he was different because everyone thought he had retired that was just a swoop by sheeds, we didnt compete against another club to secure his services.

but campo was washed up, carlton let him go for nothing, thsi year against west coast he was about 20 metres clear of his opponent and got beaten for the contested ball, he was no slow coash in his prime.

in his prime he would cut through the middle with those dashes and kick those damagin goals, in his last 2 season he stopped doing that at carlton, he was accumulating posessiosn bu they were cheap posessions in the backline sitting at the back of the contest and waiting for his team mates to dish it out to him, he was washed up by the time he got to us and the soft tissue injuries that occured to him are a good sign of that.

Did you listen to the interview? No? Then dont post sh*t thanks champ. He doesn't say that at all.

He said we would be willing to trade some of the West Australian players in our side. He didn't mention their names but he didn't need to. Gumbleton and Ryder are the only ones that have any currency. We all know Jetta or Bradley won't get us Chris Judd. What more do you need to hear?

I just listened to the interview and that is basically what he said.

I think he realized what he had said and tried to cover it a bit, but i think he did slip up there

He also mentioned a 5 year deal.

I think they are a long way down the path on this one

He spoke about homesickness and possibly being happier at home.......he went on to say he thinks they are happy at Essendon, but i smell smoke

Re: Daniher F/S Question

Firstly Daniher has to nominate his PREFERRED club. Now lets assume that is Essendon. No way is Daniher worth any more than a 3rd rounder. So the only way another club can beat this is by offering a 2nd or 1st rounder for him. Pretty simple. So if we offer our 3rd round and Sydney offer their 3rd rounder, he'd go to Essendon under the F/S if he decides Essendon is his preferred club.

And FFS..we will not be trading Gumbleton..how many times do people still not get this..young KPP players are worth their weight in gold! So your first trade is just stupid. If we get rid of Bradley and Mark Johnson one of their picks plus our no6 pick plus Jetta can be used for Judd.

Did Matty Lloyd wants to trade Gumbleton and Ryder and pick 6 for the Juddster..???

Im sure these two boys and all Bomber fans would justifiably not have been happy to hear that.

Here's a transcript- heaps of typos but you can shove it cose it took ages :p

ML: Yeah we're going for what CHirso and Mick we feel thats exactly what we lack that pace in the midfield. we've put that into the side with Lovett and WInderlich and those types of players. Where I reckon we've struggled is weve got a fair good sneoir players and good younger players but the 2000 20001 drafts we've got nooone left ebcause we really probably dropped the baton there. We had bannister davies tmarc bullen those types of players. To get a 24 y who's the bets player in the comp we're all for it.

...

ML: on friday we'll be meeting with CJ

WHo are you gonna give up?
ML: We'll have pick 6. Where I think West Coast are going to like us is we have plenty of great WA young talent at our club

So you're happy to ditch them
ML: Nah im not but he's the best player in the comp and its gonna hurt but saying that I'm not sure how the younger players at our club feel. Whether some of them feel homesick at times, they have their fmailies moeve over, so at times it can work out for some of our players also that they're happier being home

The 3 players you're referring to Dempsey, Gumlbeton and Ryder.
ML: Dempsey is from Cairns
Sorry Jetta
ML: THat might be something WC are keen on but saying that you know I think they're pretty happy where they are at Essendon.

Do you think WHitey WC would be happy with pick 6 and one of those three?
Whitey: Maybe third round pick as well. WHat MAtty said is certainly Esedndons greta advnatge. You gotta throw Johns into teh mix as well...he's not getting the opportunity. And i think something like Bradley as well, he's a top pick form a few years ago.... thats where Essendon has a distinct advanatge... I think there is about 10-12 on the list that are WA. Gumbleton is the big one. WC very keen on him. Throw in Gumby and pick 6 there's your two first round picks.

Thats my question to you would that be enough?
Whitey: I think Essendon would even sweetwn it more, throw in third round to sweeten it. I think they are going to be very aggressive.

----------------------

The worst we'd give is Gumby and pick 6, maybe a third round. We're not going to give up both. I for one hope he picks Melbourne.

He never said they'd trade both like that article says!

I agree that part is wrong but we are talking about journos here.

Do you smell smoke, because i sure as hell do?
Yeah I do, Gumby is on the table from the sounds of things., just my opinoin. It wouldn't surprise me if he is homesick, which is why they are being so open about it.

Lloydy doesn't seem to put enough thought into his answers, don't give journos incentive to write stories.
Not only will we miss out on Judd but also put unnecessary pressure on 3 good kids.

I'm with you on this one also.

While i would be shattered it could also work out for the best

IF, and i stress IF Gumby, or any of the WA boys are really homesick and unhappy, then this could work out to be beneficial for ALL concerned and possibly save us some real heartache later.

I remember Nobby saying that where he comes from and even where he played at Peel, is vastly different from what he will have to deal with in Melbourne

If Juddy choses us, and i feel we have an excellent chance that he might, it will be interesting times indeed.

we are going to need another top 10 pick to get the deal done
people seem to have forgotten adelaide..we have plenty of south australians..they have pick 9....

I would love it if someone could actually list a link where one of the wa boys (gumby, jetta, ryder etc) have actually said that they are homesick or may want to move home in a few years?

I don't want any of the kids used as a "trade bait" for judd.... period!! I don't care how good judd is, it is not worth us giving the eagles Gumbleton and then in 2 -3 years time he is a champion for them..... same goes for Ryder. No dice..... if we can't land judd without using any of the "untouchables" then so be it...... no judd.

Pick 6 and Gumby is almost equal to pick 3 and Fev. In effect, Weagles are getting pick 0 of the draft (Gumby as a junoir would pants Kreuzer so I feel he deserves an imaginary pick;)) and pick 6. It would be very dissapointing though, although the real winner would be Kepler who would be close to a certainty to play the majority of the season next year IMO.

Best Case: Judd regains lost form, is a premier player in our comp. Around him Winderlich, Stants, Dempsey, Watson lift and we're a premiership threat in 2009 when we still have Lloyd, Lucas and Fletch.

Worst case: Judd is good but never great and never reaches the same heights as he did in West Coast. Pick 6 becomes a quality player and Gumby becomes the premier CHF in the league.

Yeah I do, Gumby is on the table from the sounds of things., just my opinoin. It wouldn't surprise me if he is homesick, which is why they are being so open about it.

The only table gumbleton is on, is the table which has the list of the non-trade player's list on. As for the homesickness crap.....

lloydy said talented WA youngsters. are you guys trying to tell me that kepler and CJ aren't as good if not better than gumby and paddy???????????

Great work SOT4 :thumbsu:

Please Matty, SHUT UP!!!!! I hope he's got nothing to do with the negotiation! I hope all our WA boys don't feel too much like Windy Hill currency, if/when we don't get Judd.

Gumby's far too much.

Is Bolton from WA???? ;)

Not if Gumby was part of the deal

Pick 6 and Gumby would be a very hard offer to beat.

Absolutely. I wouldn't be offering any more than that if I were Essendon. It'd be a huge decision to trade away Gumbleton. I doubt Carlton would be willing to top that, and if they did, at least you've forced the ****ers to pay top price. And that can only be good.

Yeah.... yeah.... Kepler and CJ (talk it up. talk it up. talk it up;) )

Just re-read that transcript, and I'm starting to think... Lloyd for Judd, straight swap!! Jeezus Matty!!!

Hey Longy... This was the kinda thing I was talking about! :(

Lloyd said what everyone already knew. We have highly rated West Australian youngsters and to make a deal go we might have to trade them. It would especially make sense if any of them are feeling homesick, caus if we are going to lose them some time down the track we might as well get the best player in the league for them.

My personal opinion is, unless they approach the club and say i want to go home, Ryder and Gumby are off the table as they could be the backbone of our team for the next 10 years. Reimers, Jetta, Johns, Bradley are all possible trade bait.

Lloyd jumps the gun over Judd

Chloe Saltau | September 19, 2007

ESSENDON captain Matthew Lloyd has declared the Bombers an aggressive contender for Chris Judd, but the club has categorically ruled out returning emerging stars Paddy Ryder and Scott Gumbleton to their native Western Australia to secure the best footballer in the land.

"Absolutely not. They are not on the table," said Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro last night.

"They are the future of our club and the process for Chris Judd is that we have to speak to him first and he needs to decide what he wants to do, then we'll decide what we are prepared to give up. But I can categorically tell you that those boys are not being mentioned."

Lloyd indicated the Bombers would be willing to part with one or more of their young WA players, along with the No. 6 pick in the draft, to get the 24-year-old West Coast captain, who this week told the Eagles he wanted to go home.

Essendon officials will meet Judd on Friday and Lloyd said Essendon's strong culture should be a selling point.

While Gumbleton, an exciting key-position prospect taken at No. 2 in last year's draft, and Ryder, another top-10 pick, are off limits, the Bombers possess plenty of other WA recruits.

They include the speedy Leroy Jetta, Courtney Johns, Kyle Reimers and Kepler Bradley, who won this year's Bendigo Bombers' best and fairest and has managed 49 senior games in three seasons.

Backtrack! Backtrack!

Of course they are going to say there are off limits. It's part of the negotiation process. I think Lloyd was just being honest and realistic (always a mistake with reporters).

All I can say is if Gumbleton is feeling homesick (And if Judd can, anyone can) this would be the year to send him home.
