Even scrappy contest as you would expect.
No Shiel.
May has done a couple of good things.
Blackiston playing defence. Looks a little foreign to him but has not been too bad.
Goal for McMahon.
Pittonett having his way with Vigo.
Smartt has kicked a good goal.
Tsatas. Section of play between the 7 and 14 minute mark basically sums up my frustrations with him. Does not attack a contest he had to. One minute later he does attack the contest and wears the tackle. Then the next two he just stands two meters off waiting for someone to happen rather than using his best asset and trying to extract the footy.

Vigo will be better for the lesson he is being taught at the moment.

Really like the look of Archer May. Plays with the aggression I want to see from a big-bodied forward.
Would like to see him come into the side soon and see how he partners with Caddy.

In fact, all of the mid-season draft picks have shown something worth persisting with.

They are putting a bit of work into Tsatas at stoppage and centre bounce which is limiting his impact. Not showing any signs of wanting to get to the outside. All his play has just been get to stoppage.
Kick at around the 27 minute mark highlighted one issue. Got the HB receive on the wing. Took maybe 4 steps and kicked it 20 meters up and 30 meters long.
Ben Camporeale playing a lot of time on him.
Has had 4 tackles which is good. Leading the way there.

Smartt playing some midfield minutes. Looked tired at the end of that quarter. Needs to work on attention to detail as far as defensive actions go. Has been caught out a few times just wandering around.

Mixed bag for Davey again. Some good some sheep dog stuff.

Blackiston has done okay defensively but has had a couple of disposal issues resulting in turnovers.

Vigo has no answer to Pittonet physically but has had a crack and is winning some hit outs with his reach.

May looks good. Couple of nice marks but has missed the shots at goal. Both over 40 out.

McMahon has two goals from 3 touches.

Will Hoare has AFL level defensive ability but very questionable ability to hit targets by foot at times. Can nail an opposition player in amongst two or three of our own.

Gerryn getting some ruck time but not many touches.

Raining most of the morning before clearing around 1.30pm so the ground is very slippery.

That’s it for me. Someone else can do a run down of the last quarter.
Time to take the better half out for dinner and then head to the MCG.

Blakiston has done some nice things for a big guy. May looks good. Not sure what half these frees are for Carlton.

Overrun in the end 54-72

Tsatas had a typical Tsatas game. Lifted his work rate a bit in the last quarter but nothing new to discuss

May was the best of the mid-season recruits for me and the only one I'd back in to debut this year. McMahon kicked 3 goals but I didn't rate his bodywork as highly as May's. Smartt had an alright game. Blakiston didn't look great as a defender but moves well for a big guy, few fumbles though.

ADJ had a great tackle and a nice mark & goal, didn't see him the rest of the game.

Unwin was fairly anonymous today

Gerreyn was as good as you can expect a big man in this weather, very much a long term prospect.

Vigo had a reasonable game for a young ruck against a quality opponent, also got involved around the ground a bit.

I reckon May and smart looked the best of the midseason recruits.
Tsatas looks done for mine. To be fair to him if I was him lual getting a game in front of me would disappoint me greatly when I was the sub the week before.

how's vigo been? stats tell half the story. pitonett is an actual ruck opponent

Ground into dust, in the end.

As ant555 said above, he had no answer for a guy 10 to 15kgs heavier, and with all that additional body strength, in these conditions which neutralized Vigo's jumping and reach. Even just watching their faces and body language from half way through the third quarter, Pittonet was cruising, completely relaxed, and Vigo was unable to hide the strain, sucking oxygen in, straining to keep upright.

I reckon today was probably a better lesson for him, at this point, than anything he could be exposed to in the AFL. The speed of an AFL game, combined with the physicality of the opponents, would just blow him up. In this setting he could keep up with the game and with Pittonet right until the end, even if only just.

I was happy with the way he fought it out.

I've seen enough. I'm not letting Vigo go under any circumstances. I would honestly choose him over Draper even if the choice has to be made now, and I've been one of Draper's biggest fans over the journey. I want Vigo to be in the team in 27/28 which is when you'd expect the current build to enter its really productive years. He is already well advanced when compared to both Draper and Bryan. He has Draper's physicality and Bryan's ability to the play the game whereas we've been waiting all of this time for Draper to develop the footy brain and Bryan to develop the physicality.

kind of what i thought, would you say that he's been lacking around the ground in terms of making a presence?
