Interesting hire. Probably not what I was hoping for, but if you’re looking for the positive angle, he’ll be very familiar with what Scott’s expectations are around game style, team rules and development. Best of luck Cam!

I agree. I guess I was expecting someone who was either a recent ex-AFL assistant or an internal promotion.

Who knows, he could be the next Chris Fagan

Like I said, it wasn’t what I was hoping for, but didn’t say it’s a bad hire.

He has experience in a lot of areas and like Eth said it is not easy to find the perfect candidate when the season is almost underway. Would not say I think he is ideal but it is what it is. We needed someone to come in and follow the path we were on.
If we promoted Cloke or Hurley then we are looking for another development coach which is not ideal for the AFL program.

Yeah, look we don’t know who was A) available, B) interested & C) what the searching criteria was, so whether he’s a good candidate or not is relevant to that.

What I meant, & was hoping for was someone who was fresh out of the game and could be developed into a senior level assistant, or someone who’s had experience at AFL level as an assistant. Joyce may end up being that, and hopefully he does go down that path, as he does have broad experience.

What I was also hoping for was someone who wasn’t a former North person tied to Scott’s first stint. As I said, there’s positives that come from their prior relationship that may prove very valuable in the long run, but I also wanted to see someone from outside of the club with fresh ideas.

Overall, 3 Friday afternoon games isn't great but it's counteracted by having 10 games at "home" (with Richmond "hosting" us at Windy Hill) but we have a lot of early games at home which should hopefully produce a lot of early season momentum to stake our claim for finals

That is not really practical for the VFL coach. He has to be aligned with what the senior coach is doing or you end up with a dogs breakfast of mixed messages and ideas. Even more so when the senior coach has been hired to fix a few issues. If you are looking for fresh ideas then you are hiring a new head coach.

So before the byes we have 5 curtain raisers. How we didn't organise the Williamstown match better I'm not sure, nobody will rock up to it ffs. After the last bye I'd expect pretty much all of them to be curtain raisers though

As someone who lives 5 mins from Windy Hill, always enjoyed the ability to do the VFL into the Seniors (My Wife not so much doesn’t)

Far more fan friendly this year than in previous years it feels like on the surface

Not sure how he legitimately landed the position at your club, certainly not on relevant success or experience. Looks like a Scott yes-man or an AFL appointed job for the boys. Not sure what he will bring to your organisation while he takes a paycheque. Perhaps a recent player or someone with coaching experience at that level would have been better. Good luck.

I doubt he gets the job if it was not at the stage of the season we are at. All he has to bring is continue on with the program that Taps had been running over pre season and work in with Brad Scott. Lets face it the VFL coach has to be a bit of a yes man to the senior coach. We will see where it goes but all he really has to do is hang onto the steering wheel. Was not someone I would have picked but when you need to replace a coach in February you are not picking from the cream candidates.
