Essendon vow enough is enough

The Bombers are going to be average-shit for a while yet, but there will come a time in the next few seasons where it will all just click for them.

They have too much talent on the list for it not to work. Scott is a good coach. They have recruited and used their salary cap space well, Goldy, McKay and Gresham is great for the now without ruining their future. Different to SSS who cost them a heap in draft assets.

A sustained run around 2026-27 will be the aim for them. Finals unlikely but not impossible in 2024. Certainly in that middle tier of teams albeit towards the lower end of that tier.

You’d hope …. But I’m not convinced

Still need to fail to qualify or win a final for 5 more seasons for this to happen.

Yes, the dons have had to carry the club sanctioned, team wide doping program around for the last decade but they’ve also carried Adrian and his lightweight midfield around for 20 years now !!
It’s established fact that pressure, intensity and contest go to new levels in September.
We’ve heard all the summer buzz words from the dons time and time again, yet their lightweight midfield has been obliterated in September for years.
7000+ days ain’t no fluke …
Anyway, the Dodoro thread is elsewhere.

Simply put, if Essendon have a good run with injuries in 2024, they almost certainly play finals. Beyond 2024, they will build, develop, trade and become more cohesive. The Club is back on track.

Your post is sound and imo quite accurate.

The list is talented, there’s a group of about 8-10 players under 23/24 who will form the core of a strong side.

In years past, talented Essendon sides haven’t progressed / developed because of the issues I raised earlier. A distracted and broken club with a low performance culture, no stability, no resources to develop its talent, a perennially long injury list and all this franked by players wanting to leave (Saad).

The critical moment in this clubs recent history was Barham taking control, Campbell (CEO) being moved on and Vozzo / Scott arrivals. Essendon had a necessary clean slate and unanimously resolved to address culture, build stability, focus on football, address footy dept resourcing and fix conditioning. As we speak, there’s evidence the recent words are backed by progress. Eg: 15 players self funded trip to Arizona and no holiday. Injury list is much shorter than any of last 8 years. Club successfully beat other clubs to attract free agents. The media leaks have stopped. These things demonstrate progress.

Again, if Essendon steadfastly stays on its course, the list will evolve, chemistry will build, players will now develop, players fitness levels will continue to build. The wins will come.

However, a young list with a lack of games played together means it will take time to come together. From 2025 onwards, the possibilities become much more exciting.

Those that fail to learn from history are bound to repeat it.
Lightweight midfields don’t cut the mustard in September …

They’re possibly one classy midfielder short. That aside, the Club is well placed with money to hit the free agency / trade period again later this year. The Club is being fixed, the rest will evolve over the next 24 months as long as it doesn’t get distracted and deviate off its course.

A club can have all the talented players, success won’t arrive until first, the club becomes stable, sets a high performance culture, gets its football resourcing rectified, addresses chronic injuries and gets its young players developing by training and playing. Carlton is exhibit A in this respect. And Melbourne is another current example. But you know that.

The midfield is nowhere near the contending teams … or most teams for that matter.
Forgive me if I’m not buying the stability business whilst heckle & jeckle still patrol the corridors …

Anyway, you just obviously just want to turn this into a Dodo thread and be a troll. I can’t be bothered, I’ll leave it there.

I’ll believe it when I see it

you can make that statement about 12 odd teams in the comp.

we still have massive holes in our back line and our forward line Which is the real issue. Where are our goals coming from?

Senior Dons stars say they've had enough of mediocrity and determined to rise up in 2024

April fools day seems to have come around early this year.:grinv1::laughv1:
